Been at it for 2 years now, have only had a handful of quality job interviews. It's tough out there.
Have you diagnosed your pain points?
I accepted less money for a contract position that was close to home. I kept talking to recruiters while I worked at my contract job and eventually I found a great position after looking for two years. I knew that something would pop up because my fellow contractors were leaving in droves.
How's it going Kevin?
Howâs it going, Kevin? Bryanâs advise are pearls of wisdom. I am sure you can strike gold just by following a few of his suggestions /recommendations. We all wish you only the best! - take HOPE - Hold On Pain Ends (courtesy of my sister)
Following your advice has been so helpful in helping me land a new role. The interviews have been rolling in. Itâs been going so well Iâve been turning down roles that donât align with what am looking for professionally.
Wow good going!
Could you possibly do a video on LinkedIn Recruiter, and if possible, the screens that recruiters see? It would be good to observe what recruiters see on their side and will help us immensely in optimizing our LI profile and CVs. Even better, if you can do this for some of the key ATSs also and how they filter CVs. As it stands right now with my job search, what the recruiters actually see is unknown to me hence the black hole of LI recruiting and ATSs.
Great suggestion
I cover this extensively in Unlocking LinkedIn.

Another (goes for off LinkedIn too) âŠ.Is be responsive back. If a recruiter comes to you without the right job, usually Iâll respond to them anyway saying what Iâm looking for and attaching my latest resume. Nothing to lose doing that. Never know maybe the perfect role comes by the recruiters desk and theyâll remember you.
Not looking for a job but still really enjoy your videos!
Thank you so much for all of your videos! After several months of stress and hardship, I finally got a job with help from your advice!
Great stuff, as always!đŻ Thanks! đđŒ
Just the advice I needed at just the right time. Thank you sir.
Hello, I've subscribed to yr channel a week ago and is helping me a lot as I'm now undergoing a recruiting process from an application to a consulting company, I just had the first interview some two hours ago. Now waiting for the technical interview with the consulting company's customer, as per his/her approval after analyzing the summary of my interview with HR. This company always gives feedback, it is the second time i apply to them, the first one I got a prompt reply, before any interview, saying that I lack some skills needed for that role, which I agree.. This time I guess my experience is better suited for this role, which is PMO SAP. I first answered a 5 questions quiz about my knowledge of specific methodologies, processes and tools. That gave me the hint of what I'm going to work with if hired, there are a lot of good professionals around, we're not competing with fools, have to be prepared. Thanks! I'm from Brazil.
Your videos are great and give ppl like us a hope that there is still hope to find work and it is in our hands to find it. please never stop.
Very helpful-thanks!!
this is super helpful! i recently had a recruiter reach out to me for a job i very much would like to have - despite not doing anything you said, which i will change immediately and completely! i don't have photos anywhere online because i'm very modest, but i guess i need to get over that.
B. Excellent points. Simple and direct. Keep doing what you are doing sir.
awesome man, i had to pause this video and go create myself a banner on Canva! thanks for that, earned yourself a sub
IÂŽve got more interviews with easy apply then not. I reach out to the hiring manager directly of that position, do research and engage...
I was wondering about that contacting hiring manager is named. Is it seen as kinda invasive? Like I do like the ideal one reading their profile before interview. Just started looking havenât had an interview yet, actual last was 15 years ago lol. Sooooooo different now.
@@oldnewbreed ItÂŽs not invasive, another thing you can do is go to their profile and take a look at it, this will trigger that "someone" viewed their profile, hence them getting to look at yours, if you opt not to go the direct way.
Also keep in mind recruiters are their to collect info about you and forward that to the hiring manager among other few things, so by doing so youÂŽre simply cutting out the middle man (recruiter).
This is probably going to get me to change my strategy. We shall see if the change works
@A Life After Layoff - Question: I've heard the advice of adding one's résumé to your LinkedIn profile. I know you can make that available on the backend for recruiters (I think...or is it only to apply?), but I wasn't sure about uploading a PDF of the document under the "Featured" section to be visible by all.
Thoughts?
I find it interesting that resumes are not supposed to have pictures in North America vs. other continents. But a picture is required for a LinkedIn profile to get considered. It seems contradictory.
Australian resumes don't have pictures.
I've watched a few videos on this channel and found it interesting. Anyway, LinkedIn never did it for me. And I acknowledge networking may be more than important. Easier said than done. Better standardization across platforms is what may help. Not interested with LinkedIn's lock on it.
I am overwhelmed by the franchise opportunity scams on mine. That and obvious scams from people with no connections and no profile substance.
Thanks for this video Brian! Iâve been at the job hunt full time for about 3 months now and getting all my interviews from Indeed, Career Builder, Snagajob, but only a handful of interviews from Linked In that didnât go anywhere. I wonder if Linked In just maybe isnât the best job board for every field. Iâm in the film and tv industry and Entertainment Careers is our big job board but all of those roles receive thousands of applications a day and can really be a dead end. Iâve gotten most interviews with recruiters from temporary staffing agencies seeing my resume on Indeed and reaching out to me about temporary roles at the film and tv studios they are trying to place. I promised myself Iâd never temp again but those seem to be the only jobs available to me so as Iâm entering the 4th month of my job hunt, beggars canât be choosers and Iâll take the temp job if Iâm offered one. Hopefully can use some time in my next role to update my skills and practice networking more when Iâm not looking for a job so that next time Iâm on the hunt it wonât be so challenging or Iâll have more leads.
I have a feeling that LinkedIn is horrible for the film industry. In BC, they seem to recruit production assistants, so to network, you have to do production work.
What state/province are you in?
Well i DID find my best job i had on linkedin like in 2012 but then had no further luck; lot of contacts to pay (but when you are unemployed pay for things is like an extreme option)
Im not having luck in getting a new job just because I don't fullfill like 20 specific requirements by the companies nowadays which are looking for the unicorn in 2023, such as punctual experience, specific tasks done in the past, N number of software skills programs, soft skills, the perfect mood (according to the interviewer view of course), and last, for not saying the specific magic words during the interview they want to hear.....lol, anyway...I'll continue trying,
Top one is 25 years old with 40 years experience lol.
Good info. I used to engage in discussions on Linked-In, but stopped since I'm right of center, I would likely be cancelled by any recruiter or hiring manager in most companies. I even disconnected from work colleagues since I heard of them spreading false rumors about people based on politics.
Yeah, you have to be careful when posting. I never post anything political or controversial.
@@picklerix6162 You CAN post political stuff though....as long as it is from the political left.

Thank you!
why should we respond to recruiters
What do you do if new jobs arent being posted in your field? I am not seeing ANY new jobs this year with all the lay-offs going on.
Iâve applied to some job postings on LinkedIn that seem well written and are listing an attractive salary for the job. Iâve applied to some of these - along with hundreds of other people - and then see the job reposted a few weeks later. How can they not find good candidates about 300+ applicants?
I get too many people responding to my profile either on LinkedIn, email, or phone calls. I turn down most due to job mismatch or salary is too low.
I just watched you're video about, "constructive criticism dismissal", does that apply to a fast food worker whos much older than his coworkers, and much more masculine? I get scolded for doing a good job, like washing the nooks & crannies of the machinery even though it's not protocol. The head-cook (one of my bosses) is a goofy dude who throws food behind the grills, and just want's to leave. Also, it's the only company that would hire me because of a past drug assault, and then prison?
Is there a way to have a 1on1 talk with you? I'm in a hard situation and need some advice. Thanks and thank you for your knowledge!

I call some bs on completion of profiles., mainly if one is outta work at the time of looking it will always be considered incompleteâŠ
I'm going to share a clip from a Craigslist job ad and wondering if you can do a video on this type of job ad content. I don't know if you see this nonsense but I have quite a bit and for as long as companies started using "rockstar wanted" in their ads. The ad seemed fine and normal up until I got to this point. Why would anyone who posts jobs think this is anything but annoying and juvenile:
"Please include your resume and any personal or professional reference in your email response. LinkedIn/FB/Social media profile links are a plus. Also, please include your favorite color, pass time, superhero, and your best guess assumption as to why manhole covers are round."
I walked by this staffing agency that says on their website they check attitudes. Hilarious. Got to be kidding me. The federal government owns how much land and isn't using it? Tired of expensive blueberries
Do these coaches coaching coaches require coaches? I will come to their home to coach them inside a carriage coach, to coach these coaches coaching coaches! đđ„ł
Recruiters and employees of those companies do not put their face on their profiles.
Good advice. Sadly this video is only good for those looking for salaried employment. Anyone looking for hourly employment are not helped by this channel. It would be helpful to have a video solely about getting hourly employment that isn't a McJob.
What would you like to know?
Are certificates without a degree worth anything when looking for hourly entry-level employment that isn't a McJob?
It seems as though LinkedIn is only good for people with college degrees. Does it hold any value for finding hourly entry-level employment that isn't a McJob?
I just gets frustrating to see all of these channels that seem to be targeted at finding salaried employment that requires a college degree. It doesn't seem like there are any for those looking for hourly entry-level employment without a degree or certificate.
â@@ALifeAfterLayoff Thanks for replying and for being genuinely interested in a response.
Sorry if my first response was a little weird. I'm 38 with no degree or certificate. It sucks that I can't do McJobs anymore which are the majority of jobs I seem to land lately.
LinkedIn is terrible. No corporate recruiter is going to seek candidates out. Thatâs more work them.
This game is not supposed be so hard - we are not aspiring astronauts applying for NASA.
LinkedIn is trash.
Completely agree itâs Facebook for professionals itâs said
ââ@@luisvilla799 It's a data mining site that employers can use to discriminate candidates.
@@jackcarraway4707 wow never looked at it that way
â@@luisvilla799 Another thing to consider is doxing. Where you is work is something you should keep private. I know a female who made some extremely offensive comments on FB. I Googled her name and lo and behold her LinkedIn was the very first result. I could have easily screenshoted the comments and sent it to her employer.
@@jackcarraway4707 yeah I donât do that I donât have a Facebook or any other social media
Put a picture in your Linked in profile... unless you are white... and male.
