    If you want to keep edges crisp and to keep the surface flat, it is a good idea to wrap the abrasive cloth around a small wooden block. This should ensure even pressure over the surface and make it less likely to wrap around the edges.

      Yes, agree as you xan get flat contact consistently. Thanks for watching.

    Cap cod, yes. Works great. Hand brushing, eh...I wouldn't do that on anything above a certain price point. I've done it plenty of times, especially on titanium bracelets. No matter how skilled and steady you are, it's extremely difficult to get perfect vertical lines just like from the factory. That will trigger my OCD on an expensive watch regardless of whether it's a collectable piece or not. That said, I'm all for keeping watches refreshed every now and again.

      Totally agree as brushing is impossible to get back to factory. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you for sharing! Great idea! I’ve been saving up for a BB58 Blue and should be able to afford one from the used market but not brand new. This helps give me the confidence that I don’t have to worry about finding one that’s a little beat up, and just bring it back to life! Much appreciated!

    Great tips. Hadn’t heard of Cape Cod cloth but been doing the Scotch Brite technique for many years to spruce up a piece. Back in the day people used Simichrome metal polish to achieve a mirror finish on polished areas. As people have mentioned you wouldn’t want to randomly polish with a valuable vintage piece.

    Awesome video. I’m considering picking up a 16610 for a low price because of the condition, and this right here could make a huge difference.

      16610 is the mark of maybe the one of greatest movement in Rolex history,technology leap was huge when 3135 was introdouce.Irony is that Tudor for years used punny 2824 and sold it for 4300€.I swear to god 6L movement which is used in semi premium Seiko is quantum leap above any variation of 2824.

    Great video and totally agree with you, the watch is not a vintage one that could lose value, is not the case and I highly doubt that after this process, material will be removed.
    Many thanks for sharing.

      Any polishing will remove metal, but with the Cape Cod it is miniscule. I used a Cape Cod to polish out a small ding but it took hours.

    Great guide, thank you! Will definitely try this myself now on my BB58. Would the same approach work for buffing out spring bar marks on the lugs?

    • @erikkinginnyc
      @erikkinginnyc  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Thanks for watching. Really pretty easy.

    • @erikkinginnyc
      @erikkinginnyc  Před 4 měsíci

      I tried but usually to deep. If they're on top of the lugs and brushed you can do a bit but never even near factory. Hate those scratches and dont know what people just screw up there watches with soring bars. Also probably why I love drilled lugs. Thanks again for watching.

  • @davids9549
    @davids9549 Před 4 měsíci

    Yes, I prefer to detach the watch from its bracelet before performing this operation - that way, you can get into the areas between the lugs, plus you avoid damage to the bracelet by subjecting it to inappropriate pressure. As an alternative to your toothbrush and washing liquid method, I just take a shower while wearing the watch. Start with the Scotchpad, then finish with a good quality metal polish (unless you want to keep the pronounced brush effect). And if you send your 'collectible' Rolex in for service, they'll do exactly the same!

    You need to be careful you don't go over the sides with the Cape Cod and polish the top and bottom brushed lugs, masking everywhere except the sides would help, and taking off the bracelet is an excellent.idea. Also be aware that the Scotchbrite grey ultra fine is a coarser finish than the factory brushing.

    Where are you finding a black bay for $2,250? I’ve seen some for $2,700 but just not quite that low.

      I go in the forums - Watchuseek is best. Also, put the model in search and write watch recon (Tudor BB58 Watch Recon). You have to look for the deals but I see more and more every day. Thanks for watching.
