The lead single from the #1 album All That You Can’t Leave Behind is performed live on the band’s home turf in Slane, Ireland on 1st September 2001. The “beautiful goal” that Bono refers to in the song is one scored by Jason McAteer for the Republic Of Ireland against the Netherlands in a World Cup qualifier game in Dublin earlier in the day.

Was only three when this concert took place. My stepdad was there. He passed away in 2019 but always talked how this was the best concert he had ever been to.

This was U2 at the top of their game. They were firing on all cylinders on this tour. After all the excess and theatrics of the 90s tours, they brought it back to basics with the Elevation and Vertigo tours. And Bono's dad had died not long before this show so you can tell he was working some things out on this performance. They just gave it. Only band recently that came close to this was Stars when they played the Phoenix in Toronto after 18 months of sitting in park because of the pandemic. Torq and Amy gave it. Reminded me of this.

U2 is one of those bands that understands that rock shows should always be about spectacle. Saw them on the Zoo Tv Tour in the 90s. They were incredible.
I love going back to these performances when this song was still fresh for the Band. I know it can get tiring playing your hits, but there is something pure when a tune is fresh to the artist still. I love it.
They always rock their shows ALL THE WAY OUT and plus the Irish fans are just so loyal and dedicated to their people. Amazing moment in life. Bono had to have been feeling like a God.

Hearing him say, "Teach me, Lord," I just realized what this song is about - faith. I'd never really understood it that way before, even though I've played it many times.
