When I was 21 I was diagnosed with cancer. When I left the doctor's office after receiving the news, this song was the first thing that started playing on the car stereo. I decided I could take it as either a cruel joke or a rallying cry. That was nine years ago yesterday. This song still brings tears to my eyes. I love this band.

As a badly depressed teenager, this song saved my life. As though the Lord and Paul Hewson wrote this for me.

On my last deployment to the desert in the Air Force we were driving around the base out processing for my last time (over 26 yrs service) and this song came on…. Home to my family, home from that overseas shithole, home for good. Will never forget this song!!!!

David Bowie’s lyrics here are said to be about a boy who’s hearing a message of hope meant for Earth's youth (through a radio), from an alien referenced as “Starman”. Still, regardless of party, Earth is going through some rough times. Earth isn’t ready for extraterrestrial or more international communication, but we shouldn’t blow our chances, because we’ve got something going for us. :)
That's my favorite part too. It still hurts to knowing we lost Bowie. He is irreplaceable. Thank God he left a lot of wonderful music.

I remember the exact moment when this song dropped on the radio. I was readin a news paper (yeah in paper) in my kitchen 24 years ago.. Fresh brewd coffe and my favs of sammiches .. well it was chees and bread but I couldnt wait to get to school to tell Johan (at the time music pal) about this awesome new song from U2 ...we found eachother in first class and our eyes meet.. and we just knew that both of us heard it .. . And the laughter and joy we had. Good times ..

OMG Bono added a few lyrics from Starman, one of my very favorite Bowie songs. I've never seen this video until right now... It's really awesome he did that. I see by the date it was a tribute to Bowie, who passed in 2016. My favorite U2 song now is ever more wonderful :)

just bought a 2,000$ electronic drum kit...and I've worked my way to Unforgettable Fire,re-learning songs I've played and songs I haven't, I'm having fun with Indian Summer Sky, I had to buy a mounted tambourine when Joshua Tree comes up next and bought another 12-inch tom pad so I have one on each side so I can play how Larry has his kit set up...

This song means a lot of different things to a lot of people. It's so inspirational. To me, and for when it came out. It was like a rallying cry for this country after 9/11. Wat a coincidence that this was written before it but it really exploded into mainstream radio after it. The music, the words, n the video gives you a real perspective of wats it like to live here in America. To enjoy wat have. To wat we use to have 20yrs ago. Unity, patriotism, appreciation for the men/women of every color/race, who have sacrificed their lives for wat a lot of us take for granted. This is a hell of a song from one of the greatest bands in the world. Thank You for U2.
