Based on this video, I made the 800 mile trip to Texas this week (5/8/19) to get all the glass on my car tinted. Bob, Amy and Kimberly were all fantastic and did an outstanding job. Great video. I tinted my windshield last year and it's made a HUGE difference! Tint has definitely come along way in the last 10 years.
BTU is the amount of energy needed to raise 1 pounds of water by 1 F. It's the imperial system's "equivalent" to Joules which is MASS*AREA(squared)/time(squared).
It's a measure of the amount of heat. 1 BTU is 1055 Joules.

I’m in my second van with lots of windows. I drove the first one for just over a year until I had it tinted. That day forward, I will not own a vehicle without window film. Substantial differences, as noted in this video. Spot on,

From outside you wouldn't even know that there is tinting on the windshield and since I asked them to use the same product on the two cab doors, I don't expect to be bothered by the cops in California where I'm from. The important thing is the film with the least amount of tint provides the most heat reduction. From inside the "darkening" effect mainly just breaks the glare, and doesn't pose any driving difficulty for my older set of eyes.
