The Shadow Mountains : a whimsical, dreamlike atmosphere where one finds peace Children of the New Dawn : darker, more eerie as if something worse to come MANDY : the beginning of something darker than intended creeping into different aspects
My interpretation was when the Mandy title card dropped it was basically exactly what he was thinking, and the metaphor for the bloody revenge he would soon take
I have seen Mandy on Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (circa half a year before the release) and I can clearly remember, that first chapter was named something like "Near the Crystal Lake, 1984". I seen the movie late in night so I may be wrong. Did they change it? Can someone confirmed or deny it?
@@TheWelchProductions but I like the ones that play around a theme rather than just jumpscares Like hereditary, they portrayes guilt in such a horrifying way
@@EtherealRoninERProductions i agree! Hereditary is in my opinion the scariest and best horror movie ive seen since 2010 ish. Maybe even longer. Masterful horror movie that plays om such primal fears everybody has. Family issues, guilt(as you said), feaf of losing a loved one, mental health issues etc etc. Mandy is also an amazing film but i catories it more like a Art house revenge thriller more than horror.
@@as52343 yeah, but the aspects of the very beginning has horror elements to it, a disturbing nature and atmosphere revolving around Mandy is what makes it sort of a horror. And the ending ofc
Sean Sullivan it delivered in acting, violence, score, atmosphere, scene construction, direction, cinematography, etc. it basically delivered in every technical aspect, only really lacking in pacing for some viewers and narrative
@@benw3029 ok, maybe i'm being too harsh. Again, wanted to love this movie, but felt it fell short. What I agree on with what you've pointed out: Acting, score, scene construction, atmosphere, direction, cinematography..yes, those were stunning. As I mentioned before it was visually amazing. Violence? I don't know that I can agree that's a cinematic virtue. Without a compelling story violence to me is just pointless and overdone. Same with gore. I love gore in movies, but with an empty plot it's just pointless gore. Surely you've seen movies with plenty gore and violence that just fall stale? Pacing? I can handle pacing if the story is good. And, can handle a 3.5 hour movie without any violence or "action" if the story is interesting. Can you deal with Paris, Texas? Maybe 'pacing' can be translated into interesting storyline? It all starts with good writing for me and i didn't find this story very compelling or interesting. Script was lacking too. Minus the minimalistic script approach (I get that vibe he was trying for) it could have offered more in the development of its crazy cult characters say for example. Cosmatos is immensely talented and an interesting director and I'm eager to see what he continues to do, but feel that he's going to have to combine that with some amazing storytelling and script writing for it to have a greater impact. If Mandy had an amazing story behind it, say something along the lines of No Country For Old Men, then wow, it would probably knock socks off of most people and be somehting you can watch again and again. Combining that visual power that Cosmatos has with something a bit more layered and developed is definitely needed. and welcomed.
Sean Sullivan oh I agree for sure. The minimalist dialogue is definitely his style and shit but I can’t wait for what he’s got up next, hopefully an actually compelling story. But since I don’t mind style over substance as long as the style is that good, it doesn’t really bother me.
@@benw3029 I feel you on style over substance, especially since style is soooo lacking these days and always has honestly, it is refreshing to see. There are design elements about Mandy that were unseen in many other movies.. for example these title reveals that this op is about. Just that kind of playfulness is welcomed for sure. But, curious how you felt about BTBR? Again, I wanted to like it, but have sat in front of that one several times and can never get through it. Again, visually so rich and interesting but cant seem to hold my attention. I'm sure you know that these films are all entrenched and saturated in acres of old film footage from cult and b-movies that folks (except for enthusiasts like me) have mostly forgot about.
Sean Sullivan Yeah I thought BTBR was pretty good, again the visuals and the score were superb, but my main issue with that one was how slow it was. Like not just pacing, but everything was ssslllllooooowwwwww like it took 5 minutes for one sentence of dialogue. A solid debut and introduction to his style but not really enough impact imo. Another refreshing instance of incredible style over substance (in this case a totally nonsensical plot) is a recent movie called Let the Corpses Tan. It’s a spaghetti western arthouse giallo that’s heavily influenced by Tarantino and Leone and other 70s crime films but it’s stylistically insane
Ever since seeing the movie I keep thinking back to the Shadow Mountains card and just inhabiting that space- thanks for uploading!

These look like tshirt iron on transfers you would’ve had in 1983

one of my personal favorite movies ever! i’m really excited to see black rainbow
What a great movie!!! 👍👍👍👍👐👐👐👐👏👏👏👏
FYI these were done by Shynola (Scott Pilgrim, G.L.O.W., etc.)
Thanks
I love how the 'Mandy' card has growing veins, or roots or whatever, to indicate how her lose has overtaken Red.
Awesome movie

i forget that 😳
Thank you for the video. These card's were amazing! Up there, Top Tier with Caspar Noe's stuff!
Ew don't compare that creep's work with Panos
This movie makes every other horror movie this century look like such dull shit
No, you must have not seen many horror films.
