When this movie released, it sadly had very few showing in Denmark. So when I had the opportunity to see it on the big screen last winter, i bought tickets for my GF and me right away. An amazing experience. It such a masterclass in atmospheric visual storytelling, sprinkled with the perfect about of lovecraftien cageness. Adore it.

Elijah Wood is actually a huge fan of Panos Cosmatos, the director of this film. Not only that but many of the actors/producers in this film are hardcore heavy metal opera fans as well!
Considering his filmography, I guess it makes sense. Check out I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore, and Come To Daddy. I found them to be tonally and thematically similar to Mandy. Not as dark or as tragically beautiful but really well done in their own way.
Yeah, Elijah does have good taste. Side note and not related but I bumped into Steve Buschemi after a Throbbing Gristle show maybe 2008/9? He was at the show’s after party in the basement of the Masonic Temple in Fort Greene, Brooklyn…gothic prom. People were surrounding him and he’s there with his baseball cap on. Just trying to enjoy. That was a great moment after a stellar show.
Dude when I heard this in theaters my heart leapt out of my chest. Starless is peak and my favorite song.
