I was about to give up on this for a moment there but I forced myself to finish. Just wanted to end the year with one last hannibal edit. It's been such a fun ride, editing this show.

Don't ask me if this is a Will edit or a Hannigram edit because I'm not clear on that myself. I suppose it's about Hannibal invading Will's psyche.
I'm not sure I'm satisfied with the result. I was trying to focus on how the show depicts divine order through aesthetic, through the design and elegance that always accompany the violence. The logic of retribution and justice that's just an integral part of who Will is at his core and how Hannibal cultivates that, quite literally tears it out of him. BUT! There's so much more to unpack here, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. This will have to do, sadly.

ALSO I'm loving the "killing must feel good to god, he does it all the time" quote combined with Will's murder attempts/imaginings. you got me Thinking Thoughts... "are you talking about God or Hannibal" + Will and Hanni blurring/conjoining/being just alike.. they say Hannibal IS the devil/divine and yet he is reliant on Will, they are the same in so many ways BUT Will is focused on justice/mercy/righteousness and Hannibal is about following your urges and punishing people he just Doesn't Like (In LaVey's view, the Satanist is a carnal, physical and pragmatic being-and enjoyment of physical existence and an undiluted view of this-worldly truth are promoted as the core values of Satanism, propagating a naturalistic worldview that sees mankind as animals existing in an amoral universe (from wikipedia lol)) the phrase "His design" usually referring to god and "this is MY design" being will's catchphrase... U may have just galaxy brained me on this

I hate people who go like Will is simply a victim and is Good. Have we watched the same show lol He's NASTY and Hannibal senses that and exploits that, true. But the thing about their dynamic is, it's MUTUAL. It's a merging, a blurring of identities. Hannibal doesn't simply 'absorb' Will - means to eat him, but at the end cant! And Will doesn't simply become a copy of Hannibal. He does the unexpected, he remains fully unpredictable, as Hannibal says himself. He claims back his agency, gets back at Hannibal. And because of that, Hannibal ends up seeing him as his equal; gives himself up to Will, in fact, makes himself vulnerable, makes himself a prisoner. It's a wonderful twist and I cant stand people being blind to this.

I don’t understand why Will Graham was so afraid of feeling good about killing. Isn’t it normal? Most people have a desire for violence, only held back by guilt. When people find a target they don’t feel guilt towards, they indulge.

And why do people swarm to call for retribution and call it “justice”? As soon as people think of someone as undeserving of being treated as an equal human being, the ugliness comes out.
