  • The first week of the season ending Frosties Regatta at Strangford Lough Yacht Club were sailed in perfect conditions. With a steady 10 to 15 knots greeting the sailors for Race 1.
The steady decline of the IRC 1 fleet on Strangford lough resulted in this regatta being a match race series between the J109 Going To Red and the A35 Le Bascular.
The team on J109 GTR controlled the start pushing Le Bascular deep into the start box before accelerating away keep control of the A35 up the first beat. A decision to set at the top mark rather than gybing let the A35 back into the race, luckily for GTR the managed to pull of two quick gybes approaching mark 2 to get the inside track on the way down to the bottom mark.
The team on GTR put a loose cover on for the rest of the race to stretch out for a comfortable victory in Race 1.
The team at Bottom Up Boats hope you liked this video and it encourages you to want watch more. It you like the Time Lapse format be sure to let us know in the comments so we know to make more of these race reviews.

That decline in participating racing boats seems to be everywhere, even though there are still long waiting lists for moorage of longer boats. I was hoping for a post Covid rebound but we haven't seen it yet here on the West Coast.

Yep lots of talk but not a lot of action. Our plan for next year is to do less local racing while heading away for some bigger regattas to get out fill of top end racing. IRC 1 on Strangford Lough is struggling

Hard to guess at TWS, but why no jib inhauling? Aren’t you giving up free height in what looks like fully powered up conditions?

The TWS was around 15k knots and built through the day. We were a couple of crew light and it was quite puffy.
We were match racing on a shortish course and were always looking for spies to stay out in front of the boat behind so height was not our major concerns.
With a few more on the rail or the need to pinch I totally agree we could have in-hauled to get a few more degrees.
