    I remember Hashino being surprised that you could max all social links in P3 vanilla (and tbh the calendar was pretty strict in that game) so it might be possible to travel to all dungeons in a single playthrough. Hell, I'm willing to bet there's a trophy for it. Players just have to be really strict with their free time usage and no doubt guides will eventually be written showing the optimal route. I'm kinda just blabbering though based on Persona experiences lol. Won't actually know until we see how the calendar works in game.

    Yeah, I wouldn't have minded a romance system in this. I think his statement about romance being a thing teenagers want may be an example of a cultural difference. I read once that the west and Japan kind of view the stages of life, in this case high school and college, as different than we do in the west. The topic was making the argument that in Japan highschool is more about discovery and freedom, and college is about working and building connections. That sounds opposite of the US to me, where at least college continues the highschool freedom until you really set on a direction for your major.

    I know one thing, if this title becomes an ongoing series like persona did with SMT, I'm gonna wait a few years for the 2.0 version of it. I'm not gonna fall into atlus' genjutsu and pay for the same game twice like I ended up doing with p5.

      This is my main concern with this game. I don’t want that either. If they want to add something in the form of DLC, like they are with P3Reload (the answer), then fine but repackaging the game with added content and recharging a full amount, no. I’m tired of that formula with Atlus.

      @@KillaCam4sho exactly. It's complete bullshit and yes, they do produce quality games, but I feel like they're playing ppl for suckers doing this. Cause now, they are doing it with SMT. I thought vengeance was gonna be DLC for SMT 5, it's the same game, but with added content.

    • @vegitohaze2081
      @vegitohaze2081 Před měsícem

      Or you can just play it and be happy with the game, typically the additions those games have in no way invalidate the former. Especially for 5, you can argue the endings are almost identical despite the new characters and extra semester. This will be a fully completed game and as a new IP I think you would both be robbing yourself and the game of recognition it seems like it will deserve. By no means are the games incomplete in their original form.
      Edit: and guess what, by waiting for the “new edition” you are only encouraging that business practice.🤷‍♂️ if you really don’t agree with it then pirate the game. Otherwise you are literally part of the problem.

    • @magnumopus8124
      @magnumopus8124 Před měsícem +1

      @@vegitohaze2081 and you just prove the nonsense atlus is pulling is absolute BS. If these additions don't drastically change the game, why not just make it DLC, instead of playing it off as a new game with that NEW game price? Obviously if a game is great, gamers are gonna want more of it, which was the point of DLC originally. You say "play it and be happy with the game" but why do they even bother to re release a game with added content that they released some few years after the original? Cause they see it did well and most gamers will always want more content from a game they love......just like I do, but dropping it like a brand new game with these crazy prices is ridiculous and I'm calling it out. Also, you're right, the original games are complete as they are, which again....makes what atlus is doing scummy as hell. I hear what you're TRYING to say, but there is no justification for what they're doing.

    As someone who tried, but couldn't seem to get engrossed in a lot of the dialogue of P5 (except for the moments where the story was moving forward towards the end of Ch 1), ReFanTeezo is sounding pretty interesting.
    The devs quote about fear being useful for humans is especially intriguing and I'd like to see how that's implimented in ReFantaZeeoh.
    NSP, romance was more a part of my life in high school. To be fair, you are pretty damn good looking and charasmatic, so I can understand how it's more a part of your life as an adult. If a game does include romance options, I feel it has to be done really well and make sure it doesn't get in the way of the story. Definitely possible and can be a nice option, but also definitely not the reason I play RPGs.
    As long as I have the impression that I won't be 'missing out,' I think I'll be able to relax and make decions based on whatever sounds most fun or interesting at the time. Hoping to hear good things about ReFantAhzeeoh, and wouldn't mind giving it a try.

    I pretty much agree with your take. I don't expect ReFantazio to go through the same complex branching choices of Baldur's gate 3, but I like that we won't be able to see everything in one playthrough. That said, I think Hashino is overselling his ideas, I don't expect the choices to matter that much storywise. JRPGs usually have choices that are better with the gameplay mechanics in mind, but very few stuff that alter the story.
    And yeah, I would prefer the game to have romance, especially if you're becoming a ruler, you would need a wife for the longevity of the rule.

    I really don't know what to think of it. On one hand this game is really interesting, seems to have a mix and match of turn-based and action combat, an interesting plotline and a decent take on dungeons. On the other, it gives me the vibe of a really ... poetic journey for some reason and I don't know how that would blend in, so I'm both excited and a bit skeptical.
    My grip however is his take on romance, even if it's cultural, 1) I find romance way more meaningful and deeper between adults, albeit not always as intense as love between teenagers 2) it makes more sense to me that people tend to become way closer and tend to depend on eachother way more in dire situations and serious settings, which this game appears to do and 3) it just bugs me out that there will be social links which indicates the development of a relationship, but you can't romance anyone, it makes no sense to me (also in case you haven't noticed, i'm a sucker for romance in j-rpg/anime, I think they tend to have a great, somewhat pure/caring vision of love).
    But then again, it's just my take on it, if people are fine with it, more power to them. 😉

      It would not surprise me that the omission of romance in this game would have effect on the sales. Mind you - I am indifferent of romances being in games or not. If it's there, great. If not, then also great. I mean - There is no romance at all in Doom Eternal, but a lot of people still like it. So that's that...
      However - In persona-like games that romance is a big plot device. If you watch the game forum in several places, there is a lively discussion about what is the "best" love interest. A lot of people are drawn to the Persona for that reason. I mean - It's not the cake, but it is most definitely the icing on the cake. If you take that icing away, you still have a great cake, but for a lot of people it's less appealing. We will see how it goes, and I personally certainly will play this game. I have some doubts about the longevity of this game though...

    I've been waiting for this game for like 8 years since it was first talked about and honestly thought it was cancelled until last year when it came up out of nowhere.
    I've played most atlus games post smt 3 so it's really interesting to see so many different thing from different atlus games in here, the management and bond stuff from persona, the battle system of SMT3, they even added combo skills that work like they did in digital devil saga and there's even a row system which etrian Odyssey and some older smt games have. It's kind of a shame that persona is the only thing being brought up because this game feels more like a combination of a lot of atlus games (heck you can say the action part is from kuzanoha games as its about as basic as the first one with a 3 hit combo).

    Not being able to do everything in a game isn't a bad thing at all. There's multiple benefits to having a system like this, and here's some examples and comparisons:
    -It adds replay value. Like games that have character builders (BG3), multiple weapons (Souls games), and different endings, you can't get or experience all of those things in a single playthrough, so it gives you the opportunity to come back to it later, giving you more worth for your money.
    -It adds a different layer of challenge. Getting all SLs and side quests finished in a single Persona playthrough is a challenge in itself, but at the same time because you can it's pretty easy to get overpowered very quickly if you know what you're doing which wrecks the game's balancing, so having each individual decision hold more weight requires you to put some more thought into what you should or shouldn't do and adapt to the things that you haven't quite prepared for. You also don't need to stress over getting everything done on time.
    Both systems are good and fulfilling in their own ways and imo having more distinctive properties between series is a good thing to have because they will each bring something unique to the table instead of being shallow copies of each other.

    • @drumjod

    So much information, some of it still a bit reserved. My biggest question mark is still how the combat system works. In your footage you can see both turn-based tactical battles like in Persona AND something that looks more like an action-based combat system. Does it switch to turn-based combat with stronger opponents, or how is it supposed to work? It just confuses me a lot xD

    • @LoneWolf982
      @LoneWolf982 Před měsícem +1

      Action based combat is used against trash mobs or weaker enemies to defeat them instantly and turn based combat is used against stronger enemies and bosses. You can also attack stronger enemies in action mode to get an advantage turn on them when you enter turn based mode.

    • @TheBaxes
      @TheBaxes Před měsícem +1

      Atlus has posted some videos showcasing the combat but in a nutshell outside of battle you attack like in an action-based RPG. This can kill weak enemies quickly without transitioning into combat mode and for stronger enemies if you damage them enough without getting hit you can start transition into battle with an advantage.
      The turn-based battle system is based on the press-turn system from mainline Shin Megami Tensei which gives you a lot of flexibility but can also be very punishing if you make a mistake. It's a lot of fun!

      @@drumjod to be honest, it's Atlus that cares that much about mapping on your own, beyond rewards for completing maps(can teleport to stairs + a set reward if you visit the mission hall with it full), QOL features like automatic travel based on markings you add to the map, notifications about gathering spots refilled and FOE's reappearing, there are many things Atlus could make a feature to take place of the manual mapping.
      Auto mapping your surroundings is already on by default in the new games, making it more interactive is the way to go with that aspect (giving you tools to make it easier or retooling field skills to also be useful for that).
      I also think that they should make stratum feel more dungeon-like compared to how it is now, they go with the theme of "those places are also ecosystems" but it would be cool if they also either make smaller scale sub maps that represent something smaller inside the bigger ones or make them more active like give them more active commands (maybe even some that are timing based, not just turn/move based) or alternative floors to visit (maybe.
      But the greatest flaw of that franchise is how obtuse and secretive they are with the skill trees, all those 10 level skills with negligible increments can perfectly be trimmed down to 1-3-5 levels with palpable increments each one with branching skills to set some side effects (and maybe unlocking and expanding some skills to lvl 10 as you choose your master class based on what you choose), as most of the times you need to combine skills or setups to make them even useful, having to wait up to lvl 25 to 50 for a character to be truly useful is kind of a bummer.

      The etrian saga could be resumed as: exploring tartarus in persona 3, but turn based dungeon crawling with premade floors instead of randomly generated and a better mechanical structure that makes it more entertaining.

    When it comes to idea of romance, and your disagreement with the producers opinion of its place in the game, I think the difference comes from cultures. In anime and manga, teenagers are used a lot as socially, this is the last time Japanese people are somewhat free to focus on things other than career. The characters in this game seem more adult and career driven, so it would seem natural that this shifts to reflect that.

    6:53 Nah I disagree with this NSP. Romance is definitely a lot more appealing and intriguing to teens and young adults, but as you get older you begin to realize that romance is usually fleeting and it's a massive investment that can take a ton of time and money, and can even lead to having children before you're ready to have them.
    Metaphor's focus on politics over romance is definitely more adult feeling than Persona. That's not to say that romance/marriage isn't involved in political candidates, but it's usually linked to political agreements or scandals.

      @TheNightSkyPrince I never said video games were realistic either. The games you listed are more catering to teenagers and children, with the exception of cyberpunk. But there is a difference in how the "romance options " in cyberpunk are written vs. how they are written in persona fire emblem and baldur's gate 3.
      Cyberpunk "romance options " when you meet them they don't like you or trust you. It's only after many quests and hoping that you didn't say anything to piss them off. Do they finally tell you that you aren't complete shit and that they wouldn't mind keeping you around.
      Mean while in persona, baldur's gate 3 and fire emblem all you have to do is simp really hard for them and within 1 hour they'll be like "you're the best person in the world. I love you, and we should bang!"
