    Hey guys another great video!!! I just told the wife we need to go do the Bronco Stampede and the Jeep invasion in 2025. We already have committed to a memorial ride for our dear friend John Hudson whom we lost this year in February. It will be awesome to take her bronco and my Jeep to TN. We have been there in that area before but never been to those events. Thanks for making this video so we could all see what it looks like at the event. Safe Travels to you guys!!!

    Impressive build. What are the final alignment specs? I would suggest running the suspension geometry numbers again. The numbers on paper and what ends up in reality once on the ground can be different enough to change the anti-squat/anti-dive and the roll axis/roll center. This can have a huge influence on how it steers. And with how much it lifts under power (yes lots of power) it looks like the anti-squat and anti-dive may be low.

    I like a 16th toe in. My theory is, when driving down the road, the resistance to forward motion will push backwards on the wheels causing them to be straight. Don't know how true it is, but that's why I call it a theory.

    It should be toed in. As your driving the drag from the road is pulling the tires back. Once you hit about 45mph or so then the gyroscopic force takes over and tries to force the wheels straight. If you have a slight toe in then both forces are pulling the same direction. If it's toed out then the forces will fight each other until you adjust your speed so that one force or the other takes over.

    • @Dave872010
      @Dave872010 Před 11 měsíci

      I prefer toe out. Makes the steering a little lazier so easier to drive a giant Jeep. Had them do a 16th in last alignment to try it and it’s fine but I liked it a little lazier. Will go toe out next time.

    toe out is good for offroad, even all wheel drive track cars. it also causes more following pavement irregularities.

  • @Daveinet
    @Daveinet Před 6 měsíci +1

    Toe in vs Toe out has to do with front wheel drive or all wheel drive. If the front end is under torque when you are on the freeway, you want a tiny amount of toe out, so when it is under torque, it will be at 0. If the axle is driven, the direction load on the axle is backwards, hence the other reason for toe out. If the axle is not driven, you should have toe in.
    Confusion happens because of all the 4WD//FWD Configurations there are, no one is qualify under which condition you are setting up for, so that just gets lost in the conversation. If you are not full time 4WD, you should have a pinch or toe in.

    5:09 - (ish)(pausing to type) - Yeah, front axle is always toe out to initiate cornering and rear is toe in for stability. Anyone who tells you different has never studied Chassis Dynamics. Ideally, your Toe setting combines with the Akerman to make the wheels follow the correct radius of a turn without scrubbing, with the inside wheel and the outside wheel following different sized circles due to the difference in the Radius of the circle caused by the width of the vehicle. Scrub Angle and Wheel Offset can drag the tyres away from the ideal path to follow in that circle.
    The positve Caster is what gets you front end wanting to track straight, when camber is correct (for 99% of vehicles) the steering wheel will have a self-centering pull - the car will want to go straight.
    The wander across the lane Kevin described, can also be a result of Bump Steer, if the steering links are not moving through the same arcs as the suspension.

    Howdy. I have been enjoying going thru the many videos by you and other extreme 4 wheelers, rock crawlers and rescues. I was into this all many years before you, and have done the Jeepers Jamboree and other west coast events. I was also heavy
    into the sand drag circuit, and at one time had the fastest Sand drag Bronco in the country. Like you guys I had a rock crawler jeep (but streetable) And a sand jeep* and the Bronco, I hauled them around behind an F250 4x4 with a 428 ford in it.
    Anyway I really appreciate how well done your videos are; and how you put the viewer into the thick of it. (for gawds sake be careful) As I've been out of this for a long while; I'm wondering if you can point me at a video that explains some of the
    newer tech. Things like Axles that can turn near 90 degrees, operating rear steer, and transfer cases that allow driver to disengage the rear drive so as to crab the front end around. Ways to keep the engine running in extreme positions. Stuff like that. I realize some of this may be trade secret etc, and I'm not asking for you to create a video, but maybe some direction? Alot of vides talk about external things like tires, springs and shocks, Looking more for how people and vehicles do what I see,
    Thanks for any help. And I understand if you miss this or don't have time or a suggestion. But I really can't get out much as
    I am up there in years (I do have some grand tales of Pismo before it was a "park;:) So Videos are it. I did take my XJ out for a drive today, round the block. So guess you all inspired me. Tell Mater and BleepinJeep and Matts off road enjoy their stuff too.
    PS luved the Bronco Stampede, as my 67' was my very 1st car. Keep up with the great vids. thanks!

    I’d recommend you give toe in a shot. On my camaro I’d toe in for daily driving, no toe for the drag strip, and toe out for the track. Tow out makes steering more sensitive/touchy. Toe in makes it less sensitive. IMO.

  • @drew79s
    @drew79s Před 11 měsíci +1

    For RWD toe in increases straight line stability, and tends to allow a wheel to correct line a little as you load it up, toe out increases steering response, because as you load up the outside it augments your steering. You want a little toe in for highway stability, you want a little toe out for your race car. On FWD cars you pretty well always want some toe out, because the thrust from the driving axle countaracts the diretional effects of toe in.
    Castor is a bit of a weird dimension because it influences mechanical trail, that's the property you care about, not castor directly. Too much mechanical trail (excessive castor) will result in no steering feel and can cause death wobble, too little means (weirdly) no steering feel, wander etc.
    I think your control arms might be a little short for your application, it could result in bind when you're off road and maybe some weird effects under high brake forces or acceleration.
