Cleaning an engine bay can scare many people, but it’s quite safe if you follow the basic steps. Just don’t shoot high pressured water in the engine bay. Use a regular garden hose or a pressure washer on its lowest setting when rinsing.
►Preparation:
1) Wear gloves and eye protection.
2) Disconnect your battery leads. Reconnect them when the job is done.
3) Make sure all the caps and lids are properly sealed and that the engine oil dipstick isn’t loose.
4) If you have an older car (prior to 2007) make sure you cover any exposed with plastic bags or wrap them with aluminum foil: alternator, distributor, electrical components, exposed air filters, etc.
5) Always work in a garage or on a cloudy day, never under direct sunlight so that the products don’t dry up.
6) When you’re done detailing the engine bay, start the engine up and let the car run for a couple of minutes to dry any residual water that might still be in the engine bay.
►Engine bay detailing steps:
1) Spray your favorite degreaser on the underside of the hood and let it dwell for a couple of minutes. Use brushes to clean the underside of the hood.
2) Rinse.
3) Rinse the engine bay to remove loose dirt and contaminants.
4) Spray your favorite degreaser in the engine bay and let it dwell for a couple of minutes.
5) Clean the engine bay with brushes.
6) Rinse.
7) Dry the engine bay using either microfiber drying towels or air dryers/leaf blowers. Make sure it’s completely dry.
8) Detail the engine bay by spraying a dressing to restore faded plastics and give it that brilliant shine and freshly detailed look.

Where did you get that hose sprayer?
Why u dont use the dry steam first?after that usre degressr?
Pan but you should watch chrisfix video. Not supposed to spray water in the engine only the sides the water will spoil the engine . chrisfix video is the safer version
Would it be easier to use an exterior quick detailer like 303 to protect after cleaning?
A layer of wax should be applied to the painted surfaces that got degreased
I have to admit that it's really satisfying watching your videos. Thank you for spending your time to doing this and sharing your knowledge with us. I'm just about to acquire a new car so I'm going to try to apply your techniques to keep it fancy. Thanks again and greetings from Chile.

Hello from Canada!
another episode of paaaaaaaannnnn
I’m still a bit nervous to do a detailing for my engine bay myself but this is definitely helpful. Mine looks like the before and I’ve always detailed the rest of my vehicles myself. Thank you for the tips and info.
My pleasure. Watch my more recent engine bay detailing tutorial on a much higher end engine here: czcams.com/video/R5ZbroMTULM/video.html
Wow, very thorough. Learned a lot, and many questions I had were answered. Much appreciative. Thank you.

Pan, simply a great video!! I think that this is one of the most missed areas on a car. You can tell the skill level of a detailer by the engine compartment. So many times you see a gorgeous car and under the hood looks like they used the hood for a scoop shovel and the engine compartment to store the dirt! With these great tips anyone can make theirs look great. Thanks for sharing!
+Todd Halstead
Thanks Todd! You’re right, the engine bay often gets overlooked. No more excuses after watching this video. 👍🏻
Pan, I just want to thank you for the time you take to do these things. I have always loved detailing my own vehicles and I just purchased my first new vehicle in 15 years, I tend to keep my vehicles a while, and it re sparked my love for taking good care of my cars.. I have thoroughly enjoyed your attitude and content. Great stuff and thank you. Will be a subscriber for the remainder.
Thank you for the support and for the kind words Chris! I truly appreciate it. And since you decided to subscribe to my channel, let me officially welcome you to the Pan TheOrganizer family!

I cleaned my Gal's Acura engine bay, and told her that I belive that the mechanic that will work on the car will appreciate and do a better job when the see how your car is kept cleaned ! So, for better service at the dealership, do this. Also, the fluid levels can be see so much easier with a clean engine bay. Have fun Ice Fishing in Canada, Mr. Pan-Awesome !

I agree Leif!
Used this video as reference for cleaning my engine bay just this week. I was a little nervous about it, but everything went well. The engine started with no issues, but more importantly: it's sparkling under the hood now!

Well done pan! I did my first engine detail today with my car. I used the tornador becuause I wasn't comftorable using a hose or pressure washer. I got amazing results :)
Thanks for the comment David. Yes the Tornador Black is a good tool. You just need a decent air compressor to go along with it.

I’ve always been too afraid to clean my engine bay. You make it look so safe and effortless, and I may actually attempt to do it soon.
You can do it! Just use common sense and be careful and there are no worries. Watch my latest tutorial on the topic: czcams.com/video/R5ZbroMTULM/video.html
I have the 2015 version of this car, I was a little worried about getting the electronics wet, but after watching this I might detail the engine bay. Good vid!

No worries. Just use common sense and don’t spray strong jets of water on electronics...

Hi from Canada!

Pan watching from denver co.
I do the same. Not only does it offer a better level of clean, I can point out any issues like oil leaks to the customer so they're aware. Also with such a clean engine, it's easier in the future for a mechanic to spot any leaks as well.
Hi Master Pan! Thanks for all the precious tips! One question: how do i remove rust from the wheel bearings? IronX didn’t do much... thanks!
I watched your video about washing engine and thankful to you for your help and advice. Good luck!
Glad I could help!
Thanks Pan. As usual your videos are very informative.

Hands down the best detailer in CZcams!
Ah thanks Carlos! Nice of you to day! :)
As someone who works all week long on Mazda’s... this was like therapy to watch. I wish I had time to detail people’s engine bays like this
Thanks Joe!
I am so looking forward to cleaning my engine bay this weekend.. In my younger years, you could eat off any surface of my cars. I used to leave a thin layer of wax on all painted surfaces in the engine bay. Every time I waxed my car, which was a few times a year, I would remove the wax from the prior time and add another thin layer. I used a spray wax, so it was easy to remove even after sitting that way for months.
That’s awesome! I glad I could help inspire you and also bring back detailing memories. I find detailing relaxing. A man and his machine.
I’ve just discovered your channel and i love it! Every recommandation you said is right and it’s also very satisfying to watch! Thank you for this Et aussi j’ai remarqué l’accent québécois 👀c’est par chez nous ca😁

4:19 ANOTHER GREAT TIP. everyone gets this one wrong, order should be, 1> interior 2> Engine 3> Wheels 4> bodywork
otherwise like you say, you get all crap on the outside, your the boss, liked your vid dude
I always do wheels last as I have to go back and dry them off after washing the car if I don’t so I just wait and do them last.
This is the part of detailing I’ve always been nervous about. But watching you do it eases my scepticism and I should be OK. Thank you.
If you follow these simple steps and use common sense, detailing engine bays is a breeze, especially on more recent (less than 10 years old) cars. To further add to my point, watch a video I made detailing the engine bay of my previous BMW M550i which had an expensive twin turbo V8 engine here: czcams.com/video/R5ZbroMTULM/video.html
@@PanTheOrganizer everyone seems to be completely out of Kosh Chemi gsf and gs. Are there alternative products that do the same in the same.

Love the videos Pan, keep em coming! One thing I would note is to visibly and physically inspect all caps such as oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid reservoir, etc before adding water to them. There's nothing worse than having a pretty engine bay with a hydrolocked motor because water went into the oil cap!
Good points! Thanks for watching!

Some detailers would argue that you should disconnect the battery, however, I think you proved that this is not a necessary step. I think I'm ready for my first engine bay detail. Thanks for the lesson Pan.
Thanks Ed!
I think it depends on the car. Like he said any car within the last 10 years should be ok. Plus some cars like mine has the battery in the trunk so I wouldn't disconnect it. But my truck has it in the front exposed so me personally I would remove the battery.
Ive gone down the Pan rabbit hole this winter and have learned a ton. i cant wait for the snow and ice to go away so i can try all this stuff.
I’m happy to hear that you’re learning by watching my videos and taking your detailing game to the next level! :)
Excellent! What else can I say? I have a stock 1970s coupe. Glad you mentioned the 10-year or younger timeframe for engine bay detailing according to your method because I was concerned about spraying water and degreasers in there. Long story short, yesterday, I took some damp cloth towels (and some dry ones) and wiped everything down (first time I've ever detailed an engine room). No chemicals, just water. It's not showroom ready, but it looks much better now than before. Taking great care, next time, I'll likely use some of your tips and tricks to make my engine room look a bit nicer than it does now. Don't want to mess anything up since replacement parts are hard to find for some older cars. And labor isn't cheap.

Thanks for the tips. There’s been varying tips on whether to cover the ECU and LED lights. Good to know that you don’t need to
It’s not that you don’t need to. You need to use common sense when detailing engine bays. On recent cars (less than ten years old), engine bays are usually water tight. On older cars, there might be more exposed sensitive electronics, alternators, etc.
If you are in doubt, cover sensitive parts with plastic baggies and never focus the water on the same spot for too long. Keep the water moving.
Wow, great video excellent job with your demo makes me feel more confident about doing mine. 👍🏾👍🏾

Here’s my most recent engine bay detailing tutorial: czcams.com/video/zlKdOJtamDc/video.html
Hi, i just want to know if there any parts or components that I have to be careful of when spraying water in the engine bay?
Nice video as always, good way to describe, thanks bro..

Thanks!
Good video. For drying, if an air blaster isn’t handy, one can always leave the hood open in the sun for an hour.
I pan I have a question? I want to detailed my engine it's a 06 lexus is350 I'm scared to do it since I want to detailed with out the engine cover.. Will it still be safe to do it? Because sometimes when u detailed a vehicle the engine cover is on.. I want to detail my engine with out the cover because my engine is really dirty..
C'est toujours un plaisir de regarder tes vidéos ! ;)

I’m preparing to start my own detailing company. And I just came to CZcams to research. And your videos were suggested. And the first video I watched it was so well done that I went to the next one and you are so consistent which I love and the content is unmatched! So I subscribed and am still watching your videos right now. 🙏🏼
That's awesome, tanks for the feedback. :)
Finally! The video I've been waiting on :)
Thanks Kyle! I hope you enjoyed it! :). Making videos is super demanding so I always hope my viewers appreciate the efforts.
Nice i save all of your video to my favorites Admiral's Cars.
👍🏻👍🏻
Paaaan does it again ! That bay looked pretty sharp afterwards. I don’t think anybody would be embarrassed to pop the hood on that now. Thanks for taking the time putting out so much info. I for one totally appreciate your hard work 🤘🏼
Oh, by the way my wife watches with me sometimes. Now she smiles & says Paaaaan the Organizer !! :)

Hehe that’s awesome!!! Paaaaaaaaan!!!! 👍🏻🙌🏻
Hi Pan, long time fan from Gold Coast australia, love your videos mate, Hey ?, Just curious why you didn't use the super degreaser through the hole clean, never used either before but if you had to choose one out of the two what would you go for?
And just lastly, have you had the opportunity to use any of the Concours car care brand products?
Have used a lot of brands over the years as you have, only asking as the brand/chemist they have are one of the best that ive used.
Cheers jono
Thanks Dr. pan that was awesome!
Thanks Ken!
haha it's even a 2014, just like our white CX-5! Glad to see this video so I know what to watch out for specifically on ours when I detail the engine bay next time. We bought it with 53K miles and the bay already had a pretty nice looking detail. It's a little dusty now but not too bad at 69K miles.

Great vehicle. No issues with it so far (it’s my gf’s ride).
Two thumbs up for the link to your winter prep video much appreciated
Going to get myself some of that jet seal from chemical guys .
Keep it clean, keep it tight and keep it cool during this heat wave Pan
