  • Working on a 2005 Ski Doo 600HO MXZ Renegade with the Rotax 600SDI twin cylinder 2-cycle engine that came in for a no-start issue. It is not starting due to the fact that one of the cylinders is filled with oil in the crankcase as each half of the engine is sealed off internally from one another. It appears the cylinder filled with oil from the reservoir and the inner seal failed and allowed it to flow into the crankcase. It is likely the engine will need to be removed in or to repair this machine. Stay tuned to find out what we do to fix this and what the customer requests we do!

The internet can be a very useful tool in helping diagnose! I had also purchased a service manual for it as well (I’m not afraid to buy service manuals for anything I have to work on, they’re also a very useful tool! I did not charge the customer for the excess diagnostics time it took to fix this machine, as it was not his fault that I didn’t immediately know what to check, so I only charge for what’s actually reasonable in repair time when working on an unfamiliar platform)

@@lawnboy81SMS it can also point you in the wrong direction very easily best place to find info is the chat rooms like doo talk and hardcore sledder but any way if the bottom end filled with oil the brass check valves on the block are bad it's gonna keep drooling till they get replaced if cust don't give it a couple cranks before firing up it will hydrolock and will bend the rod very common

@@denniswilder3014 I advised customer seals and/or check valves should be replaced. He chose to take it as-is. Dealer mentioned even when valves and seals are good they’re known for that if oil tank is left full or over 3/4 full when sitting over summer or for long periods of time

I've figured out on this models the oil injection arm that moves with your throttle cables have a weak spring to bring them back and tends to let oil seep into the cylinders. Almost everytime I go right on mine, it will foul a plug bc of this so I'm at the point of either deleting the oil injection( but don't want to bc i trail ride for 200 miles at times) or finding the right spring to make that arm close enough but won't put to much pressure on my thumb

First thing, is to try a brand new battery, especially if its non electric start with the dinky little 4L-BS battery, they just don't charge well. If its more than one season old replace it first. It always solves my rough running and no start issues. The SDI needs a good battery.

Yep. Cleaned the intake, fuel rail/injectors, got the oil out from the crankcase, new fuel pump, new fuel lines, fresh fuel, and new spark plugs and she ran like a champ after that and the customer was happy! Never got a chance to make a follow up video for this unfortunately

Not too bad, just a fuel pump at the moment for it. Labor is up there a bit though! This guy is a really good customer though so it’s no issue working on it that way

Further investigation on this one has revealed the fuel pump is also bad. I’m still in the diagnosing stages to get this one running

@@denniswilder3014 You’re right, sleds were not my direct area of expertise yet. However in the last couple weeks I’ve learned a lot of specifics about them and now know a lot more about various brands as they come through the door. My previous job/boss never gave me the opportunity to learn much about them, only lawn mowers and snowblowers. This is why I became my own boss! I’m by no means an expert but I am learning every day! This sled ended up running great after cleaning it all up, putting new fuel lines and fuel pump in, new o-rings on the fuel pressure regulator, and some other things. Sled now runs like a new machine and the customer is beyond happy with it! Along with his other Polaris 700 he had in as well. I work hard to keep my customers as happy as possible!
