Well I did the same thing to my 800. Runs great on the stand. Hopefully it will hold up. I also used a little RTV as lube and extra help to seal it up. Gonna fucking send it lol😂

Hopefully it works out for you, I have heard a lot of success stories with this install. I chose to try it as I was hesitant to tear the engine out and do a proper repair. Winter was looking good and I wanted to ride. Turns out I had plenty of time to tear it down and do it right.

It's better to use lock tite on outer of seal that's what the manufacturer says. It also will lube it to slide in but don't have to worry about it sliding and spinning once dry

That's a great sounding tip, if I have to do it again I will keep that in mind.

It really is, was lucky to find one in this kind of shape.

I done mine the same way and it did the same thing, I’ve done 500km since of hard riding, I just keep checking it didn’t push it out every now and then since the little sliver of the lip came off like yours

I actually tapped mine in flat after tho

I ended up tapping this one in off camera too. Once we actually get enough snow to ride I will see if it stays in. If not I will try it again. I have another seal in the freezer.

Right way is to take a little time and split the cases that lip that came off can cause a leak plus if it's not in straight it can wear and cost you a lot .

You are 100% correct, however I opted to take the chance and try this method. Seeing as there is an internal, seal this external seal is keeping the grease in and debris out. So while critical, not as critical as previous designs where the fuel oil mixture lubricated the bearings and the external seal was used to maintain crank case pressure / vacuum. Thanks for the input! If it doesn't work out I'm sure there will be a video of me removing the engine and splitting the case.

So did that seal hold up? I've got a 2003 800ho I'm thinking about trying it.

Unfortunately we haven't had enough snow to ride, it has been raining and above freezing. Might get to ride by March.

Thats no good at all. If the engine can pull air from there it will run lean and cook the piston

If this was an older style Rotax I would agree, however these engines have internal seals that seal the case, these external seals are used to keep the grease in place not seal the case.
