  • Alex and Noah made it to portage country, and Algonquin’s Western boundary is no exception. The first day in the park included 23 portages in 42 C weather followed by a meander down the “lost” river. A river so thick in alders, you get lost.
    The Route:
    McCraney Lake, Little McCraney Lake, Rain Lake, Casey Lake, Daisy Lake, Ralph Bice Lake, David Lake, Mubwayaka Lake, Pugawagun Lake, Pezheki Lake, Iago Lake, Papukiwis Lake, Manu Lake, Shawshaw Lake, Tim Lake, Chibiabos Lake, Indian Pipe Lake, West Koko Pond, Big Bob Lake, Nipissing River.

    I have to say it’s fun watching you guys do this trip and what your thoughts were while on this trip compared to the Arctic trip series currently posted! I’d say the meanest link fails in comparison regarding the toughness of the trip. These were the beginnings of a love for expedition style tripping!

    Making Giardia wraps for lunch on the bottom of your canoe: priceless! Personally I'm a wuss and bail out on trips with too many portages -I like to paddle and I don't mind a hike but I like to keep them separate-so you have all my respect. Happy adventuring!

    Fantastic part two guys!! The upper Nip can be torturous with alders and 'alder spiders'.. nice impromptu camp! :) Can't wait for part 3 (and thanks for not taking two weeks to put up part 2) Awesome work!

    • @NorthernScavenger

      Luckily we didn't see any spiders, maybe because we were too worried about either being lost on this river or getting hypothermia from sleeping soaking wet in the canoe that night..Thanks for watching!

    Awesome footage. The portages, the alders, these are what leave lasting memories. The snow is coming down in MN and this series has inspired me to start planing my spring canoe trip. Looking forward to part 3.

    • @NorthernScavenger
      @NorthernScavenger  Před 5 lety

      This was one of the most difficult parts of the trip for us. Only having 9 days to complete 424km meant we had to be moving most of the time. That being said we both thought that if we had just had the rod set up the entire time, we would have been able to fish more and not be too far behind schedule.

    travelled up that section of the nip once (grassy lake to big bob), i remember my dog staring at me as i kept telling him to put his head down because of the alders, neither of us will be going on that route again.. maybe down but not up.. good times! watching this series for the 2nd time, great inspiring stuff ! planning a canoe trip next year aug/sept from the town of killarney to opeongo lake in algonquin, so far just 2 of us, tried to convince the guys from A for adventure but its a tough sell lol let me know if you got a month to kill

    • @NorthernScavenger
      @NorthernScavenger  Před 5 lety

      Hey Brian great point! We both felt like we got about as much enjoyment out of this trip as we would have taking more time to complete it. The only exception to this is the fishing. We passed up some really great areas to fish in order to push a further distance. There was also one set of waterfalls that was really cool that I wish we could have checked out a little more but we got there late at night and were pushing distance to find a campsite.

      @@NorthernScavenger Happened to be enjoying this series again - thanks for all the kind words NS and Dana! Truth be told, this is my favourite series on CZcams. I re-watch it sometimes when I'm missing Algonquin or have a bad day. Alex and Noah captured the vibe beautifully and it always puts a smile on my face :) I'm incredibly thankful for having been introduced to the Link through them, and their fundraising for Project Canoe encouraged us to do the same... so my hat's off to NS for all their hard work and dedication to the community 👍
