Easy Baked Donut (Doughnut) Recipe

- Hi and welcome back to my kitchen. Donuts are a perfect treat on their own or to add onto your cakes as a decoration. In this weeks cake decorating tutorial I'm showing you how I made the fun baked donuts with a coloured glaze.
These donuts were perfect to add to the birthday cake you'll see at the end of the video.

Ingredients for 12x Donuts
180g Plain Flour
105g Caster Sugar
1 large Egg (65g)
115g Salted Butter
1/4 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
1 tsp Baking Powder
100g Buttermilk
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Vanilla
Ingredients for Glaze
150g Icing Sugar
2 tbsp Milk
1 tsp Vanilla (or flavouring of your choice)
Food Gel Colour of your choice

So, as soon as I watched this video yesterday, I made these donuts. I did change them a little. I added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and a half teaspoon of nutmeg. I also didn't glaze them, I coated them in a cinnamon/sugar mixture. My teenage boys LOVED them! I had to bake them in 2 batches cos I only have the 1 pan and didn't feel like cutting the recipe. 😆 my oldest son said they were great on their own but he had to make a cup of tea and eat one with it and said it was even better with some Earl Grey! 😆 thanks again!!!

Lynz.. I only use medium eggs.. would I use 2 in this recipe?
Hi Diane, If I have medium eggs I usually weigh the eggs, you may not need to add 2 full ones in. I usually whisk them up and add in what I need.
Can we replace the buttermilk with cow milk?
Buttermilk is usually made from cows milk. Buttermilk gives such a nice flavour to breads and buns, it works very well with the raising agents to give a nice fluffy inside.
