  • In this clip from the 2003 documentary film The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, Mark Bittner shares a story about the loss of his very dear friend, a parrot he named Tupelo, and how her passing contributed to Mark seeing that all life is indeed one whole.
"In the conures of Telegraph Hill we see reflections of ourselves - as we are, as we were, and as we may once again be. And we are reminded just how lonely it can be to confine our attention solely to the solipsistic human matrix, when so much more is going on around us." ~ author Richard Heinberg, from the essay Parrots and Peoples

You felt exactly what you know you felt. So glad you have the good sense to trust yourself.

Mark's words touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Not very many human beings "get" what he is trying to convey. The easiest impulse for many a naysayer is to jump on the anthropomorphic bandwagon. Yet, it is that very type of finite thinking that continues to impact us negatively. It severs us from the hope of becoming whole with this planet one day. We could be so much more!

I’ve always loved this film, since it first came out (saw it twice at the theater) and find this sequence one of the most profoundly moving I’ve ever seen in a film. (and I’ve seen *A LOT* of films).
