I have this same guitar. You did it up very well doing it up from what it was. Good find! Also enjoyed watching you play it 😎🎸🎸

Use Naphta to remove the sticky residue. You can buy it cheap from hardware shop. Its basically Zippo lighter fluid but much cheaper !

"If you leave tape on for a long time it does that.."
Yes, it does.. and unfortunately, it can bite hard into the finish and become quite permanent. This is particularly true for white masking tape, the stuff is really destructive.
Anyway, the term for this syndrome is "FUWT" - Fscked Up With Tape. Remember it, use it

That's amazing for £15! Great find! I'd pay twice that just to use it for parts!

I have a Yamaha ERG 121 (got it from my step-dad), it's over 20 years old and doesnt look nearly as damaged. The biggest damages are a few scratches and one of the screws missing from the top humbucker

I have one of these - was my first (previous) guitar, bought in similar circumstances! The 5 way selector is bust, though, so I have to figure out how to replace that - pretty clueless so I'm going to mine your YoutTube channel for info (just found your channel while searching for a vid of someone reviving this guitar - great stuff).

Thanks. Replacing the switch is easy if you can solder. My advice is take a picture of the old one and where all the wires go before you swap it out oh and also try some switch cleaner 1st sometimes they come back to life.

@@BrentHutchinson Thanks! Will have to learn to solder first but you've got to start somewhere, right? I like the idea of giving this thing a second life rather than passing it on and it potentially ending up in landfill.

It really is amazing how dirty some guitars are. I cleaned up a butter-scotch finish 1959? re-issue Fender Telecaster for a lady who's son had sadly died suddenly. Wow, was it mega cruddy. It cleaned up really well. I didn't want to give it back then.
With just a bit of elbow grease and furniture polish on the body ... a fret polish with very fine steel wool on the neck... it looked and played like a million dollars. The Top hat selector switch was missing though. How could someone wreck such a nice guitar in such a short space of time that he must have had it (from new apparently!)...criminal isn't it.

What size did you use for the trems? Is that 6mm or 5mm?

Re that glue, try acetone if it's cyanoacrylate based 'super' glue, or maybe white spirits if its some petroleum based glues!

It is sticky tape residue - there is a product from HG called "sticker remover" which is perfect for this

Cleaned up really well. Amazing what a bit of tlc and a sort out with some spares and new strings can do. Hope it sells quickly👍

Yeah I would have gone straight in with white spirit. Might have to soak it a bit and maybe use a pencil eraser but should come straight off.
