China lays claim to basically the entire South China Sea by way of its infamous "nine-dash line." But while China claims the entire area, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, and Taiwan each have their own claims as well. This has lead to some pretty dicey conflicts within a region that is already quite tense. So why won't China back off its claims and negotiate in good faith?

The American military was thoroughly expelled from the Philippines. However due to the exact reasons that this video highlights, the U.S. has very much been invited back. Additionally, once chilly relations between the U.S. and Vietnam has now resulted in most favored nation status. I'm not saying that China is their own worst enemy, but they are certainly at the top of the list. China has ensured that America continues to thrive in Southeast Asia.

History of for the most part subservient to state interests. Vietnam and the Philippines to balance China in the South China Sea. Like you cannot balance China in East/Southeast Asia without the US existing. There’s no other power or collection of powers in the region or another nearby superpower but the US.

I have always said that if Mainland China retained a friendly face at the peak of PRC, ROC (Taiwan) relations, they’d probably have already reunited peacefully (citing the heavy economic reliance, resource sharing, and mutual tourism, before Taiwan realized they needed to decouple due to CCP aggression).

The CCP's just a bully, hell they're threatening war with Taiwan because their ego won't allow them to appear to lose or be wrong, they have no clai to Taiwan, if there is war it is entirely China's fault for not excepting the fact that Taiwan is an independant country.

Hi, I have a question about the UNCLOS.
If a specific region in the South China Sea is disputed by many countries in which their coastline are opposite or adjacent and that dispute exist before the implementation of UNCLOS, could the UNCLOS delimitation not apply to this region and these countries still adhere to the UNCLOS in the same specific region ?
I ask because of the Article 15 in UNCLOS.

After second world war, Allied forces were dispatched to administer what Japan vacated islets, reef and territory. US took over most of what was there up to okinawa, Guam and north and south Pacific islands. South china sea were assigned to china's charge. All the other ASEAN nation were not even independent from colonial power then, except one or two.
China intend to keep the control mainly because it's submarine base in Hainan island is their retaliating option if under nuclear attack by aggressor. However this last resort of defence is being challenged by US military, who 24/7 send intelligent gathering ships and spy plane and drone close to the Chinese naval base to destroy Chinese deterrence capacity. ASEAN nation should not fall into the trap of antagonizing a neighbor that is going to be there for many more thousands year.

They were challenging the status quo in the region, it means destabilizing. We experience peace because leaders in Pacific become pacifist but China was increasing their military for what? Now, we can see it.. China was expanding to India, Pakistan and now the Pacific. Only fools would believe that they don't want to expand. They were using Nazi strategy, expanding slowly seeing the neighbors reaction. If no one resist then they will start at Taiwan, Vietnam and Philippines either with thiese nations. They could just made some excuse to start a war, like now they were using news fooling people that the U.S was destabilizing the region but in fact they were.

For your information, at the 9 dash line, there are almost 50 islands , of the 50 islands, 22 islands owned by Vietnam, the Philippines owned 11 islands, 7 islands by China, a few for Malaysia and Brunei. Natuna island is not in the 9 dash line. So, who actually owned the most islands in the 9 dash line. Think rationally, China has been using the South China Sea route to trade to all over the world for more than a thousand years... There were no issues at all and everyone knows so SCS is the throat of China's trade activities. The western countries were recognized and agreed the 11 dash line by China KMT till China took over by CPC. At the moment, the western countries can't sit still and try to stir the shit over SCS especially the USA. The world is so big, and yet the USA never sees eye to eye with China Communist. Just exactly like the USSR, Cuba and North Korea and so on. If the communist blocked countries have Fallen one day, I am pretty sure, the next target will be the kingship countries....This is the blueprint of the NED and CIA.This Will be the game moving on till the USA controls the world... But before the Anglo Saxon can control the world, they must beat the strong China. And she makes use of these ASEAN countries. These Anglo Saxon countries are smart to fool the Asian countries, they come to create conflict. The same tactics to colonize the countries in Asia. When the king's or Sultanate constitutional has shaken when they come to choose the succeeded, they will interfere and make them choose a side. This is the time they take control and have been colonized. Almost the same tactics. But it really works. Finally, it got caught but it's too late. This is history. And now tactics repeatedly occurred. But, his opponent is China...who will be the scapegoat? If China claims the whole SCS, why only China owned 7 of the 50 islands. Vietnam claimed the most and secondly the Philippines and there are 5 islands unknown owners. Anglo Saxon owned them ? If the Philippines tries to lock the SCS trade routes, do you think China can sit still and do nothing on it ? We are neighbors for a few thousand years, the Anglo Saxon countries can easily go back to their country if they fail to stir the shit, who will suffer for the smell of the shit.... Keep calm and think twice. We Asians have been fooled by them for a few hundred years, enough is enough...think wisely. Thank you

Your country want you to believe that but there has never been a treaty that gathers other SEA country to give China full authority of the China Sea. The South China Sea was claim falsely by Republic Of China (Taiwan) in 1947 and after the communist take over, they adapted the claim. Keep in mind that all SEA country need resources from South China Sea to run their country such as oil, gas, and marine life. That’s why each SEA countries claim a part of South China Sea. While China is the only one claiming the whole area belong to them which disgust lots of neighbors country for their greed and many call it the greedy cow tongue show that to china it’s never enough. China took control of the whole area using their navy power and suppress other countries. This is an example of how a super power can bullies smaller countries. Since then, SEA countries has form an allied to prevent China from taking over South China Sea. If China want to take over South China Sea they will have to go to war with the Philippine, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Japan, and the United States. Even though China is a superpower, this war could mark the end of their regime. South China Sea belongs to nature and countries must share it with each other, no one have the right to claim it for themselves. A pure act of greed between country will always lead to war.

Actually, China is the only country that would like to share the resources around its controled island with neighbouring countries while other small contreis only want use vilionce to solve the problem. You may think that China shouldn't claim so much, but I can tell you, if china is not in the south china sea, all these small countries will fight with each other and all of them will claim more islands or even the whole area. China actually stablize the region, while the USA now wants to break the peace and brings wars to asia, so it is using Phillipian as as a wheapon against China, but I guess u can't understand the logic behind this...

I hate it when the intro gets facts wrong.
Territorial dispute with India - yes. Territorial dispute with Taiwan - NO it is not. With Taiwan it can be considered an political existential dispute. The PRC claims that Taiwan is simply a renegade province of China, whereas in Taiwan, one of the 2 main political parties claims that it is an independent nation, while the other main political party agrees that Taiwan is in fact a part of China, but that the Communist led government of the PRC is in fact illegitimate, and that the ROC Government in Taiwan should actually be the legitimate government of all of China.
In fact the 9-Dash line for Taiwan is an 11-Dash line, and BOTH the PRC and the ROC claim this territory as being historically a territory used by Chinese fishermen.

China’s historical claims based on some fisherman sketch map is rather weak and was never administratively governed by any Chinese entity in history. China’s bullying over a few islands that’s going to sink beneath the waves is causing them to destroy the positive relationships that was built among the Southeast Asian countries and pushes them to strengthen alliances with the US in response to China’s excessive military escalation. China needs to chill out and shift their focus back to business and economic development instead of pursuing imperialist policies which they claim to hate

    • @gjsoriano1
      @gjsoriano1 Před 10 měsíci +4

For fishing territories, it is still best to have a formal maritime border since different countries have varying regulations and laws on hot to manage the marine resources. Some countries impose fishing ban during breeding season, some impose no fishing zone in areas where there are abundant fish breeding, some totally ban fishing certain types like sharks and turtles. Unfortunately, mainland China covered several rich breeding grounds and shoals to build their artificial islands. The Philippines have documented how Chinese militia took large clams, turtles and other valuable resources before they started dumping sands to the coral reefs and shoals.

Look maritime boarders only apply to others, the USA very much controls the waters around the Americas and the USA during the Age of Humiliation controlled Asian waters too, a lot of people forget that the USA destroyed China by forcing it to trade with everyone after the second boxer rebellion and basically took over China's role of regional hegemon which a bunch of white Europeans accepted. That's also the reason the USA fought Japan, it threatened its role in Asia, the USA is very much stuck in the past.

Why do they want to control the South China Sea? hmm idk maybe because its the name south CHINA sea, its not called Vietnam East Sea or Malaysian North Sea or Philippine West Sea or Taiwan Southwest Sea. If the other countries want their name...contact the map makers lol
