This is a game i wish they remade.
Everspace 2. Srsly, the closest thing to Freelancer. You'll love it, i promise.
If you want it more realistic: Elite Dangerous.

@@DasIllu Just went to add Everspace 2 onto my steam wishlist so I would not forget and what do you know it was already on there. Hahaha, I must of been looking for something like Freelancer a while ago.
Star Citizen literally is the remake of Freelancer.
Few things in gaming have ever quite matched the thrill of popping into a strange new system in Freelancer and exploring.
20 years later: still holds up. maybe not the scripted animations, but the visuals while in space are amazing. that and the 'arcade' simple gameplay/ship control is why i spent insane hours playing this game, way back when.
Forgot how good the cast was for this game.
Commander Shepard, Gimli, Sulu. Just awesome.
Back in the day, before Eve Online I played on Modded Freelancer Servers. There were several really goods ones. They had dozens of custom ships and hundreds of new worlds to explore. We had clans/guilds and fought many epic battles. It was a lot of fun.
Freelancer Discovery still has a hand full of people still playing..

Did any of you guys play on the Procyon Hook project server? That was a really cool effort to keep the game going for years after. Good times

You missed out on Privateer. The atmosphere in these games, unparalleled. But Privateer was the superior title of the two for its time. Even more atmosphere, and great gameplay.

Agreed. The bad guys nearly won the game just in the intro.
This game, Morrowind, Civilization 3, Divine Divinity and Diablo 1. The nostalgia is unreal!
Same here with Homeworld, Diablo, FF7, Frontier Elite, X3 and Baldur's Gate.
I'd completely forgotten about this game. Takes me back to being a teenager
God I loved this game...exploring unknown and creepy systems was my favorite part

The nostalgia hits hard with this one. I remember finding Freelancer in a bargain bin for $5 at Office Max back in '06. I loved it so much I bought 3 more copies to play the Discovery mod with my siblings. Last I looked through all my old computer stuff, I still had a copy. Might have to give it a try again, I'm still waiting for a worth successor.

@@saintsaber8491 Im pretty sure I played the demo and was unimpressed. Just to be fair, I purchased everspace yesterday and it was worse than I remembered. So still waiting for the worthy successor.

Anyone who says Everspace is the next Freelancer or that it will fill that void hasn't played Freelancer or doesn't really remember it because they are not even close to the same game. The only thing they have in common, flying ships in space. Freelancer did a lot of things right to make it a fun and enjoyable game that all these other games that have come since then just do not do or get right. And for those that don't know, Chris Roberts who made the Wing Commander Series, Freelancer, one game I'm forgetting the name of, and now Star Citizen & Squadron 42, when he was making Freelancer, he wanted it to be Star Citizen. That was his initial goal but the tech wasn't there and Microsoft stepped in and made him finish the game and he released it before he was able to make the game he thought he could make at the time. Maybe a precursor to his feature creep now with Star Citizen but either way, when Squadron 42 is released, we will finally have the Freelancer we've been waiting for.....Hopefully lol.

Not talking while NPCs talking or a lot is happening is good, but a bit of commentary outside is welcome. good choice.

One of my favourite games. Still to this day, I play through the game every year or so. It has such an awesome atmosphere and the voice acting is top notch.

This is the kind of game that every new and old player are missing, awesome story, incredible cast and a fantastic and inmersive gameplay. Why can't new games be like this?
I hope some studio would get this, re-make it, just a fresh up to bring it to modern standards, no need of fancy huge textures and animations, RTX nothing of that.
Just make it so it takes advantage of new hardware somehow, and to be sure is compatble with it.
Another game I would lokve to replay is Fable.
God I loved this game, and played it when it came out. I would agree that not having a true remake for it is simply a sin but I'm very happy to see that we have a wonderful group of committed gamers who refuse to let this game die. I've just downloaded the HD update and will start to play it right away. Thank you so much for this guys!!!

One of the best games ever, loved the story, loved the progression, loved the gameplay and loved multiplayer.
this is one of those intro cinematic thats a perfect balance of narrator info to give the player the basics of the universe and visuals to reinforce the background for what motivated its current 'shape'

Man this is so nostalgic. I played this game so much. Done the full story campaign at least 5 times. The modded game servers were so fun.
Wow...not sure how this came up on my youtube selection, but man, I used to love this game. The last time I tried to play this it wouldn't work on my PC. Think I'll take a look at the HD Edition. Thanks for posting it.
Thing is: It looks still great. Not in my mind with the famous past-filter on it. Aged well imo :)

They did a great job with the ambiance for this game. The background chatter and the music was so good.

Damn, I loved this game. I played it to death, then heavily modded it and played it to death again.
Back when gaming was great! The intro still gives me chills. One of the best intro scenes I ever saw.
It's been a long time since I played this game, a modern version of this would be great.

Well, good news for you! Chris Roberts, who envisioned Freelancer, is working for many years on a modern version of this game. It's called Star Citizen!

Maaaaaan, this game was awesome!
Played this through during a crazy time in my life and it swrved as a very much distraction. Lots of memories
Funny, I had totally forgotten this game, but each dialogue triggers memories and feels so familiar. I found the original Freelancer better, but it was a worthy game.
I can pretty much word for word all cutscene..

back in the day, when it came out, i played it so long and so hard, i used up like 3 or 4 dvd's back then, or was it cd's... cant remember anymore...
And still there were rumors of freelancer 2, that never come, only yhat a german fan made darkstar one

Hell we got a new version of it, with the name underspace, a freelancer base game with a lovecraft mod slapt to it

@@Wonderboy1990 i have played the demo for some houre's and then i just got the main game... so far, its a freelancer slapt woth a lovecraft mod on it... hell even they used old names fron freelancer with a small twiths to it, only fans of freelancer will see them. even the starter mission is almost the same haha you will love it and no need to download mods to get it to work in HD xD

Freespace 2 with mods... The nostalgia is huge and the big capital ship battles still do it for me.
I had this and Starlancer along with Wing Commander 3 and 4. I really don't recall seeing this intro though.
Shame that my current laptop won't play any of them and my last "legacy" pc and laptop finally died a few years back
I played the crap out of this game. Even with mods, and a private server, back in the day. Might still have the game laying around.
You'd of thought failing to protect your main target in the first mission would've spelt an end to his career...
My first PC game making me buy a flight stick. I remember thinking man, the future of pc gaming is going to be so great.
I remember modding this game so my super ships had over 30 guns. ha ha what a massacre , plus played with a friend it was just insane lasers blasts everywhere.
Those were the days !.
Love this game. Was able to get the two best fighters out there. Too bad you had to be either good guy or bad guy in the end.

Rather than throwing money at studios and then shutting them down, Microsoft could have remade so many amazing titles as first party games.

Freelancer Crossfire is also worth checking out. Basically an HD remake bundled with a sequel that starts when the normal storyline finishes.

This was one of my favorite games back then, and I found it in a bargain bin at a long-dead Circuit City... might have been CompUSA... Regardless, it's still one of the best space sims ever made.

this was a very fun / underrated game admitly I remeber playing online with the servers and such and playing with a friend, I do remeber some of the annoying tactics some players would use, oh your about to dock? im going to shoot you out of the air lock, like realy dude? thanks a-hole and other stuff like that, wish they implimented things to fix shit like that.
it was a game, they don't make such atmospheric games now...

Wow, this brought back memories 🤩 remember playing this one back in the day.
Few tips on freelancer:
Bind a key to toggle flight assist. With it turned off you do not slow down, and keep your boost speed even when not boosting. I bound that key to MB4
Try and dock at the last possible moment. the slow approach to docking rings, gate and trade lanes are a pain in the S. An thus i bound that key to MB5
Also get weapons of matching projectile speed. Great combo is one weapon to strip shields and the rest to finish them off. You can group and switch weapons.

I think the team who made Freelancer formed a new team and made a new game called DarkStar One. It is very close to a followup on Freelancer.
I love DS1!
Freelancer... Privateer the darkening a few years earlier... Those were the golden age of gaming. It went rapidly downhill from there.

I can still play this on my XPS 720 PC and on my W7 pc:). I run a mod of the game but it is still a blast to play. I gotta replace the RAM on my old XP machine but otherwise, it still works. Bring this up to current levels and graphics but pretty much leave it alone otherwise would be fantastic.
I have a very old window XP machine with Geforce 2 pro I think about 500 mb or so of ram and a whopping 50gig hard drive the good old days.. Now I think about it I'm scared to power it up..

Also was quite rare for the age of the game is able to target independent guns or even the wings themselves (I forgot if you could actually tractor those bits you’ve blown off even though you haven’t blown up the actual ship completely yet) I used to play this game very aggressively single player mode I must admit that final battle was a bit hairy but also trying to get that special ship in that radiation belt that literally blows up your ship if you stay in the radiation too long was interesting but hey combat was interesting because it didn’t just affect your ship It affected the enemy ships as well
Also unlike most other games when you’re in supercruise mode you can still hit stuff as I noticed your ship was being peppered with rocks that were in those belts
Indeed the game was ahead of it's time the detail put into the game was insane when it released..
What I wouldnt give for just one more playthrough.

I remember the smoking effect looked really cool when the game was new.
I remember all the NPC's talking with each other and in fights just made the world feel alive...
