If you add a couple drops of methanol into the nitromethane the flames have a cool "black + white" look to them, like the are fake, or from the Sin City movie.
I ran Nitro in the 90s in a bike. I was taught to cut it with with a solvent not methanol. I ran 96% from day 1 and through the 10 years after. It not considered hard to light but it is called lazy. So you have to throw more ignition timing than you can imagine. Number is a secret. The funny part of Nitro the warning on the barrel says when disposing dump on the ground and let evaporate. It is also used in the print industry as a cleaner. But with all my contacts I was not able to get any. They had it locked down. And the only barrel that was 100% was called the black barrel. Did not have any dye added.

Fuels need only be combustible, flammability is not necessary and makes the fuel more sketchy to deal with.

Nitromethane is a good solvent
kills paint too.
No drag car runs 100% nitro though. It's slightly diluted with methanol.
The Surfers did 😎
Down to no more than 90% concentration per NHRA regulations.
