Somewhere out there in the solar system, orbiting the Sun every 271 days, is an asteroid called 2023 DW that was recently spotted when it came within just 9 million kilometers [5.6 million miles] of Earth. It is a 50 meter [165 feet] diameter rock. About the same size of rock that caused the Tunguska Event.
NASA said 2023 DW had a “1 in 560 odds'' of hitting the Earth in 2046, giving us a pretty good chance the rock will miss the Earth entirely.
But what would happen if something changed its orbit, and it was suddenly on a collision course with Earth?
What level of devastation would result from such an asteroid impact if it happened over a city, and not in the frozen wasteland of Siberia. Could we deflect or push this asteroid away from Earth before it hits us?

I read somewhere, years ago, that the amount of people watching space for anything that might be coming our way was about the amount that could staff a McDonalds. That didn’t seem like enough to me. And I know there are a lot of amateur astronomers out there who are also paying attention, but it’s scary just the same. Seems it’s inevitable that we will get hit eventually, makes me sad, not just for us, but also for all the other beautiful creatures we share the planet with.

The fact is that it happens all the time in space and is a fully natural thing in the big aspect.
Our period is simply too short to let us understand things like that, we are too stupid, to be honest.

If the young, ignorant generations stay on this “woke” path, so easily swallowing the self-hating, irrational crap that’s violating the natural laws & rights, via TikTok, which can only result in the death of western society & replaced with a dictatorship. We’re honestly better off seeing the horrifying yet beautiful sights of the asteroid as it approaches. I want a front view of that biblical site!

how do they stop the spin and align satellites? why not develop thrusters to land on an asteroid and stop the spin then push its orbit out of hitting the earth. How do you get them on the surface of said asteroid. simple attach them in some sort of grid pattern on a net along with some sort of anchoring mechanism. fire the net into the path of the asteroid and as it gets ensnared in the net the thrusters are brought to the surface instead trying place them 1 by 1 via rockets. also have some devices to fire rods into the surface on the net to attach the net to the surface and then fire up the thrusters to control the spin then push it and change the orbit. what if the thruster land the wrong way up. simple have the thruster built into a gimbal with a weight at the bottom that allows it to face the thruster away from the surface. Once this process of facing the thruster away has settle lock the gimbal and your good to go. Or have a group of thrusters in a cage built around a hex ball shape allowing the thruster to fire in any direction Once the asteroid has be been pushed into a safer orbit the locking pins release the net and again the thruster now move the net off the asteroid ready to be refuelled and reused. Have these already in orbit some where half between the asteroid belt an earth. all around the sun. so they can chase these killer asteroids. once discovering them. cost to much? been alive is better than rich and dead not able to spend your gathered wealth. what's is the point in gathering wealth if your not going to use it to protect you from death.. Thrusters are not major rockets but they can control massive weight in a weightless enviroment. Nor do they need to be ignited.

Light possesses Momentum. The modern military possesses powerful tactical Lasers that can both target and affect selected targets. If a military-grade Laser were to target an Asteroid, and fire a long-term sustained burst at the Asteroid, could the momentum of Light eventually *alter the course* of an Asteroid? Of course, a Laser beam would "spread out" considerably by the time the beam reached a faraway Asteroid. But this could be desirable, because the beam would equally strike the entire surface of a large Asteroid.

Well it's great to know that I live directly underneath one of the predictive paths of impact. It shows that it would hit Southeast Virginia Beach specifically within the Chesapeake Bay and Northern Virginia Beach in Norfolk. I live literally on the Chesapeake.😢 Let us hope it's a 1 in 540 chance and not a one in 400

If the Earth will move in 2046 and the asteroid will not hit the Earth, then it will hit another planet

I wish it would hit Yellowstone. We kinda deserve it. Since I was a kid, I always thought I'd see the end of the world. It's weird. I've made my peace

I think all kids think things like this, secretly we hope we are special. In reality we will more than likely witness a few low level wars and fade into obscurity like millions of others throughout history. I remember wishing aliens would invade like independence day, didn't happen in the end
