The fact that a city was violently destroyed and thousands of people lost their lives to fire, lightning, and floods at once is being show to lullaby music. Dang, I love Paper Mario!
I mean this game has easily the most twisted and disturbing villain in any Mario game. I freaking love Grubba! He's so fantastically well written. The more you look at that chapter and the events within the more terrifyingly evil he gets.

Man, the fact they're emphasizing the story aspect of this game so much means they HAVE to know how long we've been longing, how much this game deserves the love and respect it is getting.

they gave bowser JR. and the kooplings TWO DIFFERENT SIDE MODES in the M&L remakes on 3ds, so why not give Luigi something, right?
The fact that the entire intro is animated like a pop-up book! They didn't have to do that, but I'm so glad they did! And that music! Ugh, so many chills and memories washing over me!
They didn't have to make it a full HD remake with that gorgeous new lighting, sharp textures and new assets. But they did anyways. They really deserve our money in this case.

The fact that the developers of the game FULLY ANIMATED the story instead of just keeping it to turning the pages shows how above and beyond they're going with it.

It's a remake completely redone from scratch.
It's no different to the Resident Evil Remakes of 2-4.
This is just like Mario vs Donkey Kong because the latter and this game each has picture frames back in 2004. 20 years later, they finally got to animate the cutscenes of Mario vs Donkey Kong and this intro of TTYD. It's crazy how 20 years flew by. It feels like my childhood has been revived.
I have never cried over a video game trailer as much as i have over this one. I remember growing up poor and my dad still managing to buy me a GameCube and this game so much nostalgia plus i can finally read and understand it now
Paper Mario fans have finally gotten a victory.
A true victory would be a brand new game in this style, but this is a very close second, so I’ll take it!

I can’t believe Nintendo is still allowing a noose in the town square of a Mario game in the year 2024. I’m not complaining, I’m just sort of surprised.
I think they know that even something like removing the noose would create negative backlash, considering how much it added to Rogueport’s character and atmosphere originally. I think they wanted to make the game as authentic to the original as possible, and that included the gallows.
Wonder if they’ll bring back the chalk outline of the dead Toad.

The pipe that leads to Rougeport Sewer is probably just a drainpipe from the previous city structure
They kind of touch on that in the game
I like how revisiting the ancient city's layout after finally beating the last chapter makes me notice how the city remains have some recognizable parts. The long stairs, the bridge, the tower in the center - I can recognize all these places in the last area of the game, inside the 1000-year door.
One month left until this masterpiece gets a new shine in the spotlight.
I started tearing up from the moment the camera panned into the first image of the old castle. My heart is so full from this beautiful rendition of the intro!!!
Also, brilliant choice of orchestrating the melody as a bassoon solo at 0:55 👏👏🤧🤧

Goosebumps all over. This literally jolts me into my body when I was just a young child. The house I grew up in, the family happy before divorce. All things were right. This game is it for me. I could be on my death bed and play through this one time and pass on with a smile. Such a masterpiece, and I am thankful for experiencing it when it came out in the early 2000s.

I'm so sorry things became difficult while you were growing up, I know sometimes divorce can be beneficial for children in situations involving significant family dysfunction & whatnot but it's always difficult for the kids because it's their entire 🌎 & it likely feels like it falls apart🫂❤️🩹.I hope games like this feel like a warm cozy blanket fresh from the dryer for you🌞.By the way if you haven't played it, give the original Paper Mario for N64 a try sometime... It's wonderful in my opinion, I played it as a young child😊🎮.
When I played this game for the first time, I couldn't put it down. I ended up staying up all night to play through it, even though it was a school day. This game holds a special place in my heart.

Genuinely surreal seeing a classic Paper Mario game with the same high quality presentation as the newer games. Absolutely glorious.
I know right? While I do prefer the classic style when it comes to gameplay, I was still very impressed with the visual presentation and soundtrack of the newer games.
With this remake, we'll get to see the greatest strengths (in my personal opinion) of both styles of Paper Mario put together.

The attention to detail with the paper aesthetics in the animations is just so fantastic, the whole intro got such a glow up and its so great to finally see this game get reconigsed again after all this time as its one of the best ever made. May 23 cant come soon enough
Well April 8th is the eclipse and several states are telling people to stock on food and fuel ahead of the event and stores will close that day and schools will close and the US national guard will be deployed in some states.
I never would have expected they would animate the opening of the game from the book. I wonder what other changes they have done besides this. Please let us have a side story adventure from Luigi’s perspective. Please!

An awfully long time ago...
In an era of innovation and ambition, a beautiful game called Paper Mario was created, with an endearing world, characters, and brilliant battle system.
It was soon followed by a sequel-- Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, a critically acclaimed success that built on the original in every way.
And though the third entry was quite different, it still had the heart of the first two, and was also quite adored by many.
But one day, tragedy befell this blessed series.
A wicked curse struck all the characters, turning them into generic toads.
All experience points were spirited away into the ether, and cursed stickers rained down from the sky, making anything they touched bland and boring.
It was as if the very series had come to a violent end.
And in but a single night...
The series sank into an ocean of paint.
Many moons rose and set...
Stories of the original games and how good they are were met with ingorant accusations of nostalgia blindness...
And when the next generation of children no longer knew how great the first two games were...
A new game suddenly unfolded like a pop-up book.
But word soon spread among those who played it...
That an ancient relic of the past, the roots of the series, lie somewhere, just waiting to be uncovered in this new generation.

You have my applause. The TTYD is one of my favorite video games of all time, and is by far my favorite Mario game.

The sound effects are honestly really nice, and enhance the scene. I hope they keep the wind and seagull sound effects around Rogueport in the actual game
I started crying, not only hearing the opening music but having the entire intro animated touched my childhood so much. I am the happiest man in the world right now. I can't wait to play my favorite game of all time again.

Girl stop I'm like legit tearing up right now. 😢😢 this was a game I grew up on and when I tell you the literal scream the NANOSECOND I saw that iconic storybook it was enough to wake the dead. I adore the mario RPGs. I played through the Mario & Luigi games so many times but always stayed away from the newer paper mario games because I've heard bad things about them. This however is the one I've always wanted to try but couldn't because it's been almost impossible to come across. Thank you for remaking this game.

I gave away my copy of Origami King to my friend because I don't even care about it anymore. Replaying the first Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi game reminds me of the sheer fun of a more traditional RPG mechanics and I hope they're here to stay. I'd love to play as Bowser or some other villain again.

Yeah I'm just gonna give it to you straight it's very unlikely this game sells better than the previous paper Mario game due to it being a remake and being the second entry on the switch, just look at fire emblem and xenoblade with their second game sale numbers on the switch compared to their first ones

Dear Nintendo, this is what I have been wanting from Paper Mario for the last 20 years. The last three to four Paper Mario games released never stepped a toe outside of this games shadow. Please return this series to this style of game.

This is an amazing recreation of the intro cutscene and I can't believe that it's fully animated too, I'm just still so glad that my favorite game of all time is being remade!
Never once did I even consider them animating the intro. That was absolutely fantastic.
Dare I say that I kinda prefer this version of the music over the original too? This is coming from a huge fan of the original but the additional and more detailed instruments with the more convincing music box tune is phenomenal.

I hate to sound corny but the intro song always stirs some emotions in me and seeing this beautiful rendition paired with a fully animated version of the story made me cry a little. It's even more amazing than how I remembered it.

It is still unreal to me that we are even getting a Thousand-Year Door remake at all. I’ve been looking forward to seeing the intro ever since the first reveal trailer, but this absolutely blew me away. The added cinematics are actually perfect, I don’t know how they could’ve done this better. And the MUSIC UGH

Just seeing that cutscene makes ecstatic to see what else is in store. I always felt the amount of care that goes into the Paper Mario games, and that’s why it’s one of my favorite Nintendo franchises. Never played this yet, but I’m thrilled that I’ll have the opportunity.
Those arpeggios in the opening throw me back and give me chills. I just want to listen to this over and over again.
Nothing will ever overshadow the memories I have of my first days of gaming. Those nights spent at my bros GameCube playing this and never beating it. I've seen the ending and seen him beat it, but now I have some unfinished business, stars to collect, treasure to find, and a princess to save. Oh... and a legendary door to open....

I absolutely adore that they animated the town being destroyed after the book opens. It's a really nice way to honor the spirit and illustrations of the book while at the same time showing them doing something different with it by animating the entire story.

This intro is already showing just how much effort the Paper Mario team is putting into this remake. I hope this game can become the blueprint for future Paper Mario games.

I love how the intro has an old Fairy Tale story color palette theme to suit the story being told of a ancient tale
I like how they are keeping the paper theme. A lot people complained that paper Mario leaned too far into the fact that everything was made of paper, but I always liked it. It gave the series a bit more separation from regular old Mario.
Yeah, but genericizing the story and environment tied it even more into regular old Mario. Paper Mario originally had a pop-up storybook feel to it with unique environments and more a traditional, but still unique, turn-base RPG battle system. Super Paper Mario dropped the latter in favor of side-scrolling action RPG elements, but kept the former. The complaint with the newer games is that they change the series to focus on arts and crafts and got rid of the RPG elements: the partners, the XP, the badges, the deep story telling, the unique environments, etc.

I just love how this version of the intro makes it feel more visual and easier to understand. When I was still playing the GameCube version, there was some stuff I didn’t know about. If you’re getting this game, then it’s a 100% top choice for all RPG players out there.
