@C caymer your joking right?. Americas healthcare system is the most advanced in the world that has the most break thoughs with new treatments and meds. If it wasnt for the US healthcare system, new medications and treatments wouldn't exist. As for wealth inequality, sounds to me like you're just a communist. As an atheist, when people wish me a Merry Christmas, I happily smile and wish them a Merry Christmas in return. It costs me nothing to do so and bring happiness to others at a time of year that is supposed to be happy. This columnist is a joyless harpy.
David Kane yea you don’t have to worship Jesus to celebrate Christmas either lol Christmas trees and giving presents and getting them andspending time witth you family is still fun for atheist I’m sure lol do you think it’s weird the most atheist on the left and most religious people are on the right?
Agreed. Christian beliefs from CHRIST seem to be more liberal than what other people tear apart and differentiate between one another. Just be peaceful guys
The thing is that Christmas transcends religion. So for example in a country like Sweden (where I live) Christmas is everywhere. And Sweden is like 40% atheist, myself included. And I celebrate Christmas. Because it's become a holiday not just about Christianity. That's why I cringe when people call Christmas "white culture", "oppressive culture norms" or other nonsensical dogshit.
Being an Orthodox Jew myself, I always found the Christmas season to be a special time in the US. Its one of the few things thats portrayed accurately in Hollywood. The feeling that you get from watching a good Christmas movie is the same feeling you get when you walk into Shopping Malls, stores, and down the streets of NY or any good American city during the holiday season. People are in much better spirits. The overall feeling is one of joy. Its too bad that this holiday period only comes out once a year. I remember growing up in Cleveland where there was one street in particular that was full of pine trees and the entire street including the telephone poles and trees were decorated for Christmas. When my kids were little we would drive around neighborhoods looking for houses that were decorated the nicest. With that being said, Happy New Year to all!
Meh I used to be Muslim and even then we still celebrated Christmas and would say “merry Christmas” we just left out all of the biblical stuff and had family over and ate some nice food and shared presents because it’s nice to see family and celebrate.
Well, first of all no Muslim celebrates Christmas in any form (not even a greeting) because it’s blatant shirk (belief and worship of other than God alone, with no partner). While Jesus (a.s) is a Prophet, God does not beget, nor was he begotten. He has no son. Jesus used the term father in a sense of one who protects you. Who watches over you, like a father does his son.
I clearly doubt that a christian living in Israel would make such a scene when people are wishing him a good hanukkah. Keep cool it’s just traditions and our common culture, just use your brain and respect your fellow man.
Why would they? Jesus and all of his earliest followers were Jews, and the Gospel of John mentions them observing Hanukkah. There would be no Christian faith without Jews or Judaism, and a lot of people, both Christian and Jewish, seem to forget that.
I had some Jewish people (who are strangers) wish me a Happy Hanukkah this year. I am a Christian who celebrates Christmas. And guess what? I wished them a Happy Hanukkah back. I thought it was lovely that they wished me well on their Holiday. People need to get over themselves. A nice gesture is a nice gesture.
I live in a community that was once a Jewish enclave and still is near 40% Jewish. We wish each other Happy/Merry holidays of all sorts. No one is ever offended and only grateful for well wishes.
I don't really understand what this woman's problem is I mean if I was a Christian and a a person of the Jewish faith wished me a happy Hanukkah I wish them a happy Hanukkah too. I think because as a Christian our faith actually comes from comes from Judaism when I was taking my Bible classes I studied the Old Testament we learned about every holiday that was there Hanukkah truly I just thought of it as an important class because it helped me to understand the background of the faith that I follow but also where my savior came from
Cool.. I had a boss once who happened to be Jewish. Nice man.. worked for hjm for a long time. When someone would say Merry Christmas he would always say Merry Christmas too. He'd tell me "What does it matter? It's simply some civilized person wishing you well in their own way.. just do the same and smile." He was a great guy.. I was with him when he passed away. Miss him a lot.
It's funny how she says we should put ourselves in others' shoes, but she doesn't do the same at all. Imagine if a Christian in Israel wrote a column about how they got offended by people saying Happy Hanukkah. By the way...Merry Christmas everyone and don't forget what it's all about.
Yeah! It’s about a religion that stole pagan rituals and then tried to kill the pagans...woo! And then they killed some more people for not believing in their religion of love. And hundreds of years later they’re still whining about it in the Internet in an echo chamber of their own ridiculous ideas....
I think every Christian should put themselves in Jesus' shoes: I mean, here's a guy who's mom was basically (mind you she was 14 year old virgin) spiritually raped by Yahweh in the middle of the night so that she could have a kid that she didn't give consent to. Then, she and her husband are deflected by holiday capitalism (I suppose overbooking has thing even back in ancient Nazareth) as they go around to every inn demanding a hand out - the woman in particular thinking she's of some importance because she's knocked up - like the socialists that they are. Worse yet, the Bible teaches that "to know someone" is to have had sexual intimacy with them. So, what does that mean for baby Jesus has he took Mary's virginity as he was exiting her body? Her own son deflowered her after god raped her...What a horrible life.
"Spelt" is the past tense or past participle of "spelled" and you are using it incorrectly in the present tense. Also, an apostrophe is required for the contraction "it's".
The left has become the home of Outrage Culture. Identity Politics defines people by victimhood, so the more things you can be upset about, the more validated your victimhood is. We have reached the point where there are some people who are so upset by everything they experience in everyday life that they're unable to work, to form meaningful relationships, to be productive members of society. They become shut-ins living off of our tax-funded assistance programs. Leftist ideology poisons everything.
@@OldGayGamer Left wing ideology was once established to purposelly defend freedom of speech , but nowdays all it does it to diminuate and bury this right to everyone that doesn't agree with all the BS forced on everyone's throat
imagine throwing a tantrum about the majority of america celebrating christmas. 😂 thats like going to saudi arabia and complaining about them celebrating ramadan. pathetic
Likewise, people shouldn’t get butt hurt over those who choose happy holidays over merry Christmas. Just ask yourself this crucial question, “is this person being nice?”
_"You know what the really nice thing about Christmas is? It's the one time of year when everyone seems to be part of EVERYONE'S family. Everyone's smiling at you... Holding out a hand to shake yours... Making you feel you belong wherever you are. I guess that's what Christmas is really all about."_ -Kermit The Frog
Like the Manson Family or The Family International??? Christmas is stolen from Saturnalia based on the cult of Yeshua. Also, I'm not offended by people who say "Merry Christmas" but Ben is dumb for defending Christianity...
@@AzazelZaphorOmega You're not offended by people saying "Merry Christmas", but you ARE offended by Kermit the Frog pointing out his interpretation as to what's so special about the holiday. That's MUCH better. *facepalm*
When I worked in a Supermarket, I wished a customer Merry Christmas as they left. She told me that she's a Jehovah's Witness, but still said thanks anyway and wished me a merry Christmas too. I miss those days when people didn't get offended over rubbish.
@@lovebirdrica22: Well that's because you're an uneducated, uninformed, willfully-ignorant, intellectually lazy, bigoted speck-brain who has never done a single millisecond on the Jewish people!! You don't know anything and you don't WANT to know anything!!
Merry Christmas to the lady who wrote in her column that she does Christmas things with her friends......but hates when strangers wish her a merry Christmas lol

Is that the sort of pearl clutching you're talking about??? The same people who basically had seizures over fucking Starbucks Cups?? The same perpetual victim martyrs also crying wolf a bout a war on Christmas??? Is that the pearl clothing you speak of???
@@AzazelZaphorOmega You do know that the starbucks cup thing was invented by starbucks right? No legitimate Christians or Christian organizations actually freaked out about it. It was part of a joke story that took off because people falsely attributed it to a reliable news source on FB and then it took on a life of its own. No Christian I ever met cared one iota about what color a starbucks cup was or what it did or didnt say. We went right on drinking our starbucks on the way to church. Trust me, when the papers tell you that there is a moral panic by the conservatives, you should look and see just how many people there actually are panicking. No one I know cares about bathrooms or being courteous to trans people or equal rights for people regardless of age, gender, color. When you read only things that reinforce your own closed minded view about how "backwards" the south is or whatever then you tend to be mislead into believing the country is full of hicks and rubes. Most of us (check the polls and statistical results, I recommend Barna as a great starting place) It turns out that most of those things you listed are actually issues that separate people more into age groups than religious preferences. The statistics are strikingly similar among old athiests and old Christians with great parity from young athiests and young Christians. And Barna in no way benefits from offering that information. it would actually benefit them to pretend that evangelicals were more in line.
@@historianswag8517 Okay cool. The grouping of Christians you know don't account for the world at large...You understand that right? I’m in California and am pleasantly surprised at how many people wished me a Merry Christmas this year. Like, I don’t even remember being wished a happy holidays this year. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Angel L I’m not saying Happy Holidays is bad. It’s only an issue when it’s obviously Christmas and people would get in some sort of trouble for saying Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays.
I used to be intolerably non-theist, rubbing my smug superiority into every religious face. I even went out of my way to seek out the worst aspects of faith and belief. Then I grew up. I am still an atheist but I respect how much faith means to people. I even find myself asking questions. I get after anti-theists more than believers, why us that? Far leftism for one, I used to be them and know exactly their arguments and why they're wrong. My own realization of what's important in life and picking apart trivialities is not it. I baked Rugelagh this season not because I'm some big lover of Jews, but because they contributed something beautiful to the season. It's sick to detract from the wonder and beauty of this time of year no matter what the faith.
I worked with a Muslim. He asked if he could wait to take his break an hour before he was off because he could not eat after a certain time. I said sure no problem. Another coworker said why do you cater to him? Same reason I let you take your break when your girlfriend stops by on her break.
stan s the laws govern amount and length and unless your a truck driver your boss can let you take then earlier or later every job i've worked has been flexible when it comes to break times in a retail setting you never get a break exactly when they are scheduled. the same thing applied when i worked for a call center. it not really catering its reality and most if not all bosses relies this
@@AngryLotus Angry lotus? More like insane shithead. I point out that there are LAWS that restrict when breaks are given and you respond like a dickhead. Fuck you ya man.
I’m with Ben on this one-if you look at Christmas lights and it makes you sad, Christmas is probably not the problem lol Christmas lights are definitely fun and pretty to look at. Also, he’s absolutely right; there is no bigger defender of Israel than Christians because they believe in the same God and believe that the Jewish people are, in fact, the chosen people of God, so she’s either bitter with life in general, stupid or a combination of both lol The woes of being recreationally offended 🤦🏼♀️
A common interpretation of the Christian bible that I have seen is that when it refers to Israel in the context of God’s chosen people the people who have salvation are included in that reference. Just an interesting interpretation i thought you might like. The people who believe that don’t use it as a reason not to support the country of Israel.
Why doesn't anyone get their nickers in a naught over believing there is a God. Since we don't really know why take it so seriously one way or the other. I agree with Ben on most things except I don't believe in God. But Ben would be ok with that. And I respect those who do believe in God. It's all good
Todd Lavigne - I believe in God but I respect people who don’t. I have friends who are atheists and I don’t have a problem in the world with them. I also have friends who are of a different religion than mine (Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, Hindu etc...) and we don’t have a problem with each other either. I don’t rain on their parade and they don’t rain on mine, and we’re all good!
Greg S Do you think jewishness is mostly about faith? If you have jewish blood, but do not practice the faith, traditions, believe in god, etc - can u still say you are jewish? Just curious haha
I mean, why would you. It’s literally your name. Quite rare that a person holding a Jewish name is not of the faith. When it comes to faith, I mean, I see a man wearing a yakima or a woman in hijab, I’m not going to say Merry Christmas.
I'm a leftist secular non believing Indian hindu, and I feel it's Intolerant to say Happy Holidays & not Merry Christmas. Respecting others religion is a necessity for a secular society. This is so stupid. After Diwali, Christmas is my favorite festival. I'm gonna teach school children of a public school (Muslim majority) to make Christmas Cards in a while now. Merry Christmas!
One real ironic moment was at one point I worked in a mostly atheist work environment. It actually turned into an assumption that everyone there was atheist so we would rip on religion and such. One day we find out one of our coworkers was Christian so the religion ripping stopped. Winter holidays came around and we all started wishing Merry Christmas. The one out of the closet Christian said we should respect people's diversity of belief and just wish happy holidays instead.
I share your general sentiment, but saying that it's intolerant to say "happy holidays" over "merry christmas" doesn't many any sense. Someone getting offended that a stranger wished them a happy holiday instead of a merry christmas is just as stupid as getting offended over someone wishing you a merry christmas instead of a happy holiday.
The next time someone says "lovely day, huh?" to me I'm going to lose my shit. That is very subjective and a warm sunny day is not necessary lovely at all to me. Have some decency people, my God!
But now you mentioned God and are insulting ALL beliefs where there is no God. To avoid this, you must rip out your tongue and teeth, and then, you'll never offend anyone!!!
Sad part is that even a hostile atheist like Ayn Rand, claimed she loved the Christmas season because people were happier and generally in a better mood! Typically, I will say both Merry Christmas and Happy holidays because there are at least 2 holidays (Christmas and New Years) being celebrated close to each other.
Jamal Davidson In other words 92% of the demographic that supported the democrats. Atheists are across the board the most liberal demographic in the states.
@reignman2112 That would be the religious orgasm yes. But what if she says "oh no, oh no"? That would be the denial orgasm. Then of course there's the fake orgasm. Where she says "oh reignman, oh reignman" 😂 Merry Christmas reignman. Oh and Julia!
I am a Hindu boy who studied in Don Bosco, a Catholic school. We always wished Merry Christmas because it is just well wishing and we always enjoyed Christmas celebrations. Similarly my Christian friends always came over to my place to celebrate Diwali. This insane woman is just insane.
@English Teacher Going to another religion festival is allowed in Christianity. What is not allowed is doing anything that glorifies other gods during those festivals.
I have never met a Jewish person who wasn't thoughtful and kind about Christmas. Respecting the rights of others seems part of the tradition of all the Jewish people I have known. Sad that the media make those who don't know Jewish people falsely think that Jewish people are intolerant.
3:36 if that isn’t me 😂😂 You know what’s fun? Christmas lights they are twinklely and pretty and they make me happy because they are twinkely and pretty.
Thank you Ben, I needed that. I am a Christian who does wish you and your family the best and hoped that your Hannukah was peaceful and plentiful! May God rest with you forever.
"You're used to the fact that cab drivers don't wish you an easy fast on Yom Kippur." Perhaps, but if one DID, I wouldn't have the urge to write an editorial about it when I got home. The guy just wished me well, what is there to get offended about?
Holy carp, Bobsheaux! Never thought I would see you here! And yeah, writing a freakin editorial about a LYFT driver being nice a wishing them well on any holiday, this is ridiculous
I heard a true story of a bearded rabbi walking down a street with his family on christmas eve when a little girl walking with her father seeing the rabbi said " look daddy, santa claus," the rabbi heard the little girl and loudly roared "Ho Ho Ho." Now tell me if either the dad or the little girl will ever forget that heart of hearts rabbi overflowing with purest love. I personally despair of its clearly pagan roots but it is often the wondrous side effects of this holiday that redeem it for as the scriptures tell us Love covers many sins.

I live in the south and am a Christian and I can honestly say that 99 percent of the people that I pass in a day are at least secular Christians (go to church on Christmas and Easter to make mom happy). I love saying Merry Christmas to people because it means something to me. It means peace on earth, good will to men. Happy holidays feels as uncomfortable as the two gentrified neighborhoods I drove past on my way home today. And honestly, I LOVE it when someone says to me "I'm Jewish" or "I'm non-religious" because then I get to ask them what their celebration looks like! Its a great conversation starter. I wished a woman Merry Christmas the other day, and she told me that she doesn't celebrate Christmas because she is Jewish. So then I got to wish her a Happy Hanukkah instead and even asked her if she was seeing family for the holidays and had a lovely conversation with her. Merry Christmas doesn't mean that I dont tolerate you and your differences, it is honestly my way of expressing the peace that this season means to me to the world around me.
You see, this would make a lot of sense if you were Muslim but not in this case - you're definitely just intolerant and trying to push your faith onto others.

Someone needs to take a chill pill. Even if you don't celebrate it doesn't mean other people can't say Merry Christmas. It's like when it's a person's birthday, and you tell them happy birthday, but you're not close with them so you don't actually celebrate anything. It's just something polite people do.

Yes indeed. Thank you!
I think of the happy scenes in stories like Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. 🥰
Is NYC a good american city?

Meh I used to be Muslim and even then we still celebrated Christmas and would say “merry Christmas” we just left out all of the biblical stuff and had family over and ate some nice food and shared presents because it’s nice to see family and celebrate.
Used to be? What are you now, if you don't mind me asking :)

Ben, you hit the nail! As a Christian I've deep respect for you. I'm very glad you have the courage to bring up the hard to deal with issues. Our society moves around hate as a show..... Very sad. Thanks!
Professor Liberal Avenger 😂
@Professor Liberal Avenger There was a time when liberals were the good guys
@Professor Liberal Avenger
No, liberals today are libtards, not good by any means.
When ever I hear someone having a problem with marry Christmas a little bit of me dies inside...
I know it’s late but Merry Christmas remember it’s all about what you believe
note to self: send her christmas card next year if she hasnt found a better country to reside him 😂😂😂😂🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
I have a Muslim neighbor and he wished me a merry Christmas and without even thinking I thanked him and wished him a merry Christmas as well, I was on automatic mode already. He didn't get offended, he actually genuinely smiled and said thank you.
Meanwhile my Jewish aunty is always one of the first people to wish me a Merry Christmas each year lol
“Merry Christmas!”
“Um, I’m Jewish”
As an atheist I celebrate Christmas. It’s fun and awesome! I say Merry Christmas to everyone I see.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!🎊
Today is my birthday and being a Christian that loves him some Jews... this is such a gift. Thank you.
God bless you man!
Happy birthday!
'Respect others as you wish to be respected,' that turn of phrase rings a bell...
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Everybody! Here's to 2019! :D
Someone needs to take a chill pill. Even if you don't celebrate it doesn't mean other people can't say Merry Christmas. It's like when it's a person's birthday, and you tell them happy birthday, but you're not close with them so you don't actually celebrate anything. It's just something polite people do.
Many famous Christmas songs were made from Jewish composers.
Yeah, pretty clever huh!
Well now, you are quite correct.
I am so glad he touched on this. Beautifully done as always. Great argument.
Merry Christmas Ben.
Keep up the good work.
Very often I have to work on Christmas and New Year, so I get very offended when people call it a “holiday season”, as I get no “holidays.” Even though I am not black, I get super offended when I hear someone say “black Friday”. We should call it “all Fridays matter Friday.” I get offended when people talk about me, and I get even more offended when people don’t talk about me, as if they don’t care about me. I get offended by every object that is taller than wider and get super angered by every object that is wider than taller.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!
I get offended that black history only has one singular month while white history is every single day and every single month, including black history month.
So you are saying that only Black People get offended?
Damm racist AF
Black Friday refers to an accounting term that businesses are in the black, instead of the red, the day after Thanksgiving. In the black is good. In the red is not.
I thought u were serious until I read further lmao
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My brother in law is Jewish and he is among the first to wish me and the rest of the family a merry Christmas. She is just trying to be a "victim" just like most leftists.
Or The people on the Right CONSTANTLY bitching about an imaginary war on Christmas...But then again their god was a bitchy little martyr daddy boy...so yeah. Merry Christmas btw and a Happy Saturnalia too :)
@@AzazelZaphorOmega 🗿 dum dum 🗿
@@jacobthomas4811 I meant this idiotic conspiracy that there's this whole thing in society "out to get them." Don't try and play dumb to that fact, everyone know this sort of lunacy happens every year. Christians getting pissed off and saddened and praying to their imaginary sky daddy whenever someone says "Happy Holidays." Seeing those words on a banner in a town square, they act like they're all going to be crucified tomorrow. Hence, their martyr complex which comes from their deity who was ritually born to be sacrificed according to New Testament mythology.
MY REACTION? Oh, well it's just the insufferable irritation that comes with all this bitching. Eventually, it boils over and people getter pissed off. Kinda like how your kind goes on and on and on and on and on and on (making videos ad nauseam) about how
"Triggered Snowflakes/Feminists/SJWs/Obama/Hillary/Bernie/Leftists/Soy Boys/Beta Males/"Victims"/Socialists/Etc. are mean/stupid/ignorant/Blah blah blah blah blah" and because of what?? Because you're mad??? What the hell do you have to be angry about??? No one's holding you at gun point right? Did anyone "force" you to do or say anything?? You have your physical autonomy, your money, and your personal property, don't you? Is your mind not your own? How about your privacy? And I know no governmental agent has come to your door demanding your firearms with penalty of death being a consequence of non-compliance....So, what the fuck do you have to be so mad about?
Also, there's this thing (and I know that religious texts don't support this in any real capacity because most gods, including Yahweh, are militant thought police) called FREEDOM OF SPEECH. So, I can say whatever the fuck I want and so you can you. So, you gotta try it out today! :)
@@jacobthomas4811 Great come back. In the face of facts, you've got nothing so regress to the mentality of an ignorant and inexperienced child. That'd be almost adorable if wasn't so fucking weak and stupid. Have a nice day :)
@@AzazelZaphorOmega yea no one really cares if you say happy holidays. Except maybe old people.
I only watch this for the titles,
They make me laugh so much.
Happy New Year Mr. Shapiro. You rock man!
I'm atheist, but I still celebrate christmas. And I tell people also, Merry Christmas. I don't get offended or feel excluded at all when christmas comes around.
Same here.
It's basically so commericalized and mainstreamed.... Which has its good and bad points, but on the good column is that most everyone can enjoy aspects of it.
@@TiredRetrogamer2 Indeed.
A salesperson here in Australia asked me whether I celebrate Christmas before wishing me a Merry Christmas which I found incredibly sad.
Well said, Ben. I lived in NYC for 23 years, and fully half of my staff were Jewish. I made a point to wish them happy Hanukkah, and a blessed day of atonement, and a happy Yom Kippur. I wish Muslims happy Ramadan. I am a Christian, a daily praying and daily bible reading Christian who shares his faith as often as I can. And I am not offended by Jewish holidays or Muslim holidays. I AM offended by those who want to whine about religious observance and saying "merry christmas."
Sounds more like she was writing a blog rather than an article.
