  • Welcome! These clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital many from the 70's, 80's and 90's. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. I think Cher was so very young and shy, she hadn’t quite found her voice yet. She was gorgeous!

Aw, Cher always said about how shy she was and how she suffered bad stage fright during the early days with Sonny, and it really shows here, any opportunity to get the interviewer to talk to Sonny instead of her and not being able to look into the camera. In fact originally Cher was going to be a solo artist and Sonny being a part time record producer and song writer was going to manage her, but Cher was too scared at that point to sing alone. She only felt confident enough to sing if Sonny was by her side. That’s why they became Sonny and Cher. Even during live performances of her first solo recording, All I Really Wanna Do, even though he did nothing but stand there or sit there as she sang, he was next to her. His very presence was enough for Cher to come out of her shell. By the 70s, she no longer needed his support, she was confident and a star in her own right and he knew it, and hated it. It’s tragic their marriage broke down as a result, but his eventual death showed just how much Cher loved and cared about him, even right to his dying day. Her eulogy at his funeral was heartbreaking. He will forever be the known as the one who discovered the Goddess of Pop and presented her to the world. RIP Sonny Bono

Sonny knew the music and show business well. He created, acted dumb and took the puns from Cher on their show which made it a success.

Sonny is a very smart and talented guy. He could do a lot of beautiful things if his inspiration remained with him.

Wow. Sonny and Cher kind of looked like the Carpenters here during their 60s era .before their style and image changed in the 70s. ❤️

You can see how different the times were because the interviewer wouldn’t put the microphone to Cher’s mouth when she spoke.

Early on in her career she kinda of emulated Sonny’s voice-more forward and bright, and yes nasal. Listening to I got you baba after years of 90s onward Cher and at first I thought Cher’s voice was Sonny’s.

It’s hard to believe that’s the same girl to look at than the one on the Sonny & Cher show, let alone in the Turn Back Time video and again now. She’s reinvented herself more than Madonna!

Most of their generation saw them as “straight” meaning not part of the hippie/party generation and by this interview they were basically washed up til the Sonny and Cher Show on CBS
