- Today our 9-month ultimate world cruise takes us to tour Valparaiso Chile. We did a walking tour around Valparaiso, seeing how they have converted graffiti into works of art. We also toures the many hills of Valparaiso and rode the funicular train. To top off the day we were even interviewed for a Reuters news article, about the ultimate world cruise, right at the port.

I think you're right almost cases to cheer on your own because we've been on so many tours that took us to stupid things that we didn't even care for. But in today's world there are so many unsafe places.

Valparaiso is neat to see; however, it was our worst embarkation. We went up to Vina del Mar before our boarding time and could see our ship floating in the middle of the water. They were trying to tender the previous guests and luggage with flights off because there was a port worker strike and a container ship in our berth. Finally, it was moved, and we boarded about 5pm. We sailed away some time after we went to bed at 10:30pm.
Yeah we've had some crazy ports as well where it doesn't always go to plan but that's where we just say go with the flow. 😃

I enjoyed your last video of artwork and also this one. My daughter lives in Santa Monica .. She is on some sort of committee in Santa Monica about preventing graffiti which is just horrendous there. I mentioned to her about maybe having murals allowed and The gang members wouldn’t tag the murals. She said they already tried that and the gang members just tagged right over them. If you want to be really shocked, google high-rise in LA with graffiti 20 story apartment building that was left unfinished totally covered in graffiti.
Oh gosh. That is crazy. It’s too bad.

Lastly, could you share a bit more about the cost of each trip? Like ~ we bought # cups of coffee, took a taxi and cost of excursions was $ xx.
To be honest, we don’t track it that closely. We budgeted about $20,000 for excursions and have spent very little when we actually go into port.

You guys are so right about tour guides. A great tour guide can be amazing, and a mediocre tour guide can feel like a waste of money. My mom and I took a full day tour of Rome, including the Vatican, and I felt, especially the second half of the day, all they were doing was trying to rush us through everything.I almost feel like I haven’t even been to the Vatican museums yet. Because they were pushing us to get through so fast.
Yes, that can be really unfortunate when you feel so rushed. Hopefully you can get back there and visit again.

Every new place I go, I want to take a tour. I even took my son on 3 tours when we did San Francisco. I had been there twice before, but the tours were excellent. I always learn something new and something I would not have gotten on my own. Like the colors of tiles in Lisbon Portugal actually have meaning. Our son lives in Seattle and we can watch the container ships come into port from his rooftop deck! Love to watch container ships. Grain ships are also interesting to watch being filled.

What Insurance company do you use for travel. We have been comparing prices and would like to know what maybe a reasonable price rate. Please help if possible.
We use travel guard, but you really do need to do your research so you get insurance that meets your specific needs.

If you have to cross a country without the ship think about eurorail. If you have a pass you can just get off and on anywhere you want.

I like your look back on if you would want to return to a port. I do the same thing when I cruise. Two things I want to know ~ how did you choose your excursions prior to sailing?
That’s a good question. We did a lot of research looking at both the Royal excursions as well as third-party excursions and we just chose what was of interest to us.

That is like 30mins away from our home , there is a Cafe on site we should try and catch up for a coffee
The cruise I took down there left from Valparaiso & we had a night there before we sailed. I went to a winery & then went to a resort for lunch. I liked it but the graffiti was a lot.
Yes, it is a lot. So we just appreciate it for its own unique beauty.

Good questions. We are pretty happy with everything we brought. Nancy writing here and I wish I would have brought some more dress clothing for dinner in the evening. Mike ended up buying a second selfie stick so it would’ve been nice to have two of them. And we’re very happy with the organization we have in our cabin.

Great questions. I miss the grandbabies, but I’m not homesick and this is Nancy writing. No regrets. Yes we do get surveys after each mini leg. I think seven months are going to fly by quickly and we are looking forward to them. And truthfully, Royal has exceeded our expectations with everything.

What was the reason them taking you off the ship and bringing you back on or something? One way to travel that's really fun is getting a euro rail pass to the next ship stop If that would work
Agree. We have traveled by Eurailpass before and it's wonderful. Especially in Europe trains are a great way to get around

So I absolutely love your videos. I have a question. With streets like these what do the handicapped people like if you’re in a wheelchair. I mean the locals?
You know, that’s a great question, and it is actually something I thought about while we were on our tour. I don’t have a real good answer. Other than people who are handicapped must have someone drive them door-to-door, because some of these streets would be way too difficult for them to traverse.
I travel in a wheelchair so I always see the obstacles that most others don’t think about. I think seeing this video of yours really made me think about how the locals who are elderly or handicapped get around. Thank you for sharing your experiences I really enjoy watching

The wildfires happened after we were there. That was unfortunate for us to hear about them.

Yes, the cities do have rules or regulations. It is local artists who do the painting in most cities.
Which excursions were included with your World cruise ~ I know you said Christ the Redeemer.
There were seven world wonders, and for what they called escape excursions for the full world cruisers.
