For us Poles, Geralt in the English version sounds unnatural, and maybe that's why. But it's more about the origin or culture we come from. The Polish dubbing is also richer in sentences or references to history and culture that English-speaking people will not understand. Recently I read that there was a stir when abroad they found out that in the Polish version, when greeting Ciri, Yennefer calls her daughter. Everyone chooses dubbing according to taste. And personally, I wouldn't be able to play with a dubbing that I don't understand. That's why, for the English, English dubbing is better than others.

Hm, i like how sure of himself this voice actor sounds. Definitely a good fit. But idk, doug cockles performance is so legendary cant say that id enjoy hearing any other voice.
Doug gave Geralt a "batman voice" which doesn't suit at all imo.
@@TeBeYT his voice is described as one which stands out in the books, so its fine by me.
@@Soulintent95 Not really. The "unpleasant" doesn't mean "batman"... Cockle has wonderful voice fitting Geralt as good as Rozenek's, but without modulating. Rozenek's voice can't be described as "pleasant". It's too deep and hoarse.
BUT, I also can feel your point cause you're used to Doug's acting. Makes sense to me even tho I disagree with you.

It's awesome, it's Witcher 3, but the contrast to Doug Cockle is so great, polish Geralt feels like Green Lantern.
What? Polish Geralt feels like Geralt - because it is Polish book and a Polish game, your English knock-off sounds like some edgy teenager combined with Batman from wish.
@@RPGPlayerPL Dude, "sounds like Green Lantern" means "sounds like Nathan Fillion", which, in the language of "english knock-off sounds" means AWESOME. Not for a moment I said it was bad. Every "edgy teenager" has a special place in their heart for Nathan Fillion, who's also know as Captain Malcolm 'Mal" Reynolds from Firefly. Poland is great. I actually enjoyed the polish series (f**k Netflix) and I just watched "Potop" or "The Deluge", which is an epic classic.
Polish Gerald is the reference to all the other dubbs. Not the other way around.

Objectivity is lost. They're both good.
Who cares, everyonee has his own opinion. I speak polish and I prefer the english version wich gave me the chills when I watched the trailer for the first time, the trailers are all in english.
@@PERUN_PLThis is probably the best comment I've seen.

The Witcher is a Polish work by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher games are also Polish, so the real, original voice of Geralt of Rivia is Polish actor Jacek Rozenek. Rozenek's voice is more suited to Geralt of Rivia.
Is witcher series famous in Poland? Does it considered as folk literature?
@@Blathannit is a must read but only among people who like fantasy. it definately isnt a school reading and teachers despise it as they prefer polish patriotic classics
@@beginner1676 It was actually a school reading quite recently, as far as I can tell (source: a school librarian). They had a few modern fantasy novels, added Felix, Net & Nika too.
@@Blathann There is no way someone would be even vaguely interested in fantasy and not read it. They are written in a very modern, easy to read way, fast paced, people are acting like people, the story is good. Translated to many languages before the games came out. It had several editions and a movie and TV show. CD Projekt Red chose it because it fit gamedev but also because it was already known and popular.
It's not considered folk literature because it doesn't really show the folklore (it has slavic mentality for sure, but and some elements of folklore, but it mixes and matches them, it's not a reliable source of slavic folklore). It's just considered modern fantasy. (More precisely, "fantastyka". That's a term that encapsulates both fantasy and science fiction, and everything else with unrealistic elements like magic or future technology).

Both the Vesemir and the merchant sound great. Geralt on the other hand, not so much. I see people praise the polish version of Geralt a lot, but honestly it takes away all the personality Geralt has through his way of speech. This just sounds like "generic slavic bad guy/badass voice".
Edit: The replies to this comment is full of people who go "English thing bad, foreign country thing good" even though the actual quality of the voice work is better in English.
It's the same kind of mindset that those who believe the Japanese voiceover of every video game in existence is better than the English one have. It's a pathetic mindset to have, and this is coming from someone who's not from an English speaking country.
