holy shit that was hilarious 😂
My sister's husband at the time had one "i think it was either 92 or 93 don't remember very well" in black and it was a beauty of a car. Sadly it got t-boned one day while he was getting out of work by a speeding car to the point it turned over a few times and it was so bad that it had to be cut in half in order to get him out of the car. Sadly, he never recovered his mobility and it's bound to a bed for the rest of his life 😔 he really loved that car and it was his pride and joy but his life at the end of the day is more valuable than anything materialistic. I wonder how he's doing nowadays.
😭😭damn I thought the dude was gonna recover
@@Maximus20778 believe me so did i but the doctors were cleared that his chances of him walking again or anything were pretty much unlikely and it really pains me because he was a great guy. But sadly the damage was so bad that there was nothing they could do, despite that we had hopes that he could walk again at the very least.😔
@@pablodelgado7919 does he even come on a wheelchair?
@@Maximus20778 geniunely and sadly i really don't know since the last time i ever saw him was over 10 years ago, probably more. So long story short he remains at the care of his sisters and family since for whatever reason they don't like my sister at all, despite that she were always there for him all the time during the accident and everything. She tried many times to at least keep contact with him but it was a no-go so there was practically nothing we could do, so we haven't heard anything of him since then. But i know in his mind he doesn't blame her for the reasons why she lost contact with him, he's well aware of it.
This car is wonderful! It looks like a Porsche from the back and looks like its constantly annoyed from the front, when the flaps are down. It's really an OEM branded Geo Storm.
Isuzu is way underappreciated and underrepresented. They made truly new and exciting cars that did stuff that was completely different from anything else being made at the time. In the world of boring SUVs and trucks I wish we had a company like Isuzu to shake things up a little.
I used to have a 92 impulse turbo AWD 5 speed. I put a boost controller and a better intercooler with turbo back exhaust and it was quicker than my old 91 trans am from a dig. I love these cars the suspention was designed by lotus too and they are twins to the geo storm.
Good god a turbo AND AWD? Not sure how much these things weigh, but it must be fairly light, would be an absolute blast.
@@rushnerd they weighed 2600lbs from the factory I got mine down to 1900 without me in it and like a 1/4 tank of gas!
@@mromatic17 Under one ton? Dude that's absolutely mental. My 88" Supra is probably about 3,500 lbs by a conservative estimate with my spare tire out of the car.
The Impulse would be seriously impressive with that kind of weight loss. People chase that in the MK3 Supra a ton, but you can't shed THAT much weight, it's just a heavy ass car with a giant motor. I just have the NA with 200HP, a super fast or nimble car without a ton of work.
@@rushnerd yeah the problem with the impulse rs turbo aWD is they only sold like 1500 I think in the few years it was for sale. Isuzu didn't have a huge dealer network here so parts were a bitch to get ahold of. with the upgrades I think it was about 200bhp it was 160 stock I cranked it up to 17psi of boost from 8 I think its been 17 years. I love the mk3 and mk4 Supras even the NA ones are selling for stupid money right now. when I was growing up my neighbor bought one brand new in 96 turbo and up till when I moved they still had it and drove it as of 2017. its worth a shit load now! I wanna get a toy but I also want to put some money into my 94 f-150 4x4 reg cab short bed 5.0 5 speed. I have aluminum heads, cam, and intake, and 1.7 roller rockers in it. It has about 350ish bhp and 400 lb torque. its a 90's truck so it only weighs 4000lbs versus these new trucks start at 5500 and go up from there! I get 19mpg with it too!
@@mromatic17 Hah, I would imagine parts would be a nightmare. Reliability and parts availability is why I picked the MK3 Supra. Parts are expensive, but it's popular enough there is an aftermarket scene and enough sold that ebay parts are around. That 94 F-150 is probably would quite a bit right now, worth holding on to. Sounds like an awsesome build.
I had a black '91 and i loved it as my first brand new car. I still have fond memories over 30 years later.
Bye to Daihatsu, Suzuki, but I miss Isuzu the most. Looks like 90s Impreza with Nissan nx or Mazda mx3 body. In the 90s I was obsessed with the Isuzu trooper and vehicross. I hope the owner preserves this special car.
Your delivery is soo polished and smooth, I could listen to you all day! Really enjoy your channel!
This has to be the one on craigslist right now. If I only had room for another car. love it
I love the headlights on these
This was sold as a rebadged Geo Storm. GM basically changed the front fascia and the tail light panel. Also they tuned the suspension differently I believe.
Thank you for doing this review Zach, and thank you William for providing your relatively pristine example. I’ve always loved the Impulse, and with such a limited amount of content/info about them online, it’s cool to see a nicely done review of one. I hope to see one, or hell, even own one of these someday, in the off chance I can even find one. Definitely an under appreciated car and it’s a shame they didn’t sell better.
I forgot to comment when I first saw this, but why is it that every time I think of a specific car you make a review of it? perfect timing!
Isuzu is so daring in how they design cars. Theres no Japanese automaker like them. I want an Isuzu Rodeo soon.
To me, the styling of the Impulse shares more than a little with the Geo Storm of the time. The last I remember seeing one of these was several years back. I don’t remember much about it except for the “Handling By Lotus” badge. But that was enough to catch my eye. I had to Google the badge to find the car.
Man I haven't seen one of these in years. I forgot about them 👍👍
These were so cute. And it is insteresting that the seem to have been forgotten about. Usually when I hear Isuzu, I think Trooper. The early ones tipped over if you went around a curve at 30 MPH. I drove one for a little while, and was so careful in that thing, because you could feel the high center of gravity in it. The later ones seemed a bit more sensible.
I much prefer the original Impulse. The first generation. That Impulse does, in no way, in my opinion remotely resemble the original. I had one and that car is the one that got more questions than all others I’ve had COMBINED.
An original Piazza RS Turbo fitted with the AWD system out of a Second Generation was the Poor man’s Audi Quattro
U almost made me cry @ 7.40 final thoughts
Thanks for releasing this video!
I love the Isuzu Impulse cars.
I owned the little sister of this car, a 1990 Geo Storm. It was given to me for free in 1998. She had a 3 speed automatic, and she revved at 4,000 RPM at 70 MPH. Unfortunately, the transmission went out after only a few months of ownership and I junked it because of that and the rust; I lived in the Northeast at the time.
Omg, the part when it goes to him in the back seat 😂🤣😂🤣
Nice! Now you need to review the previous generation Impulse! There are a couple Turbo ones running around Washington state.
In Canada we call that an Asuna Sunfire. Our Isuzu version was called the Storm and it looked a little different. Lotus released a version called the Elan S2 which was supposed to be a first gen MR2 - literally. Lotus designed the MR2 with Toyota and then GM bought Lotus who owned 50% of the MR2 and tried to sever ties with Toyota for being Japanese but Toyota also owned 50% of the car so they could work with Toyota or give Toyota the MR2. Well, I guess they showed Toyota with this and the Fiero. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh, and in Japan they called it a Piazza.
I remember sitting in the back seat of a Geo Storm (basically the same car) back in the day. I'm only 5'6 but the rear hatch glass was located where my head should go!
Very clean car. The owner obviously cares about it a lot.
Use to have the turbo AWD version. I loved that car.
I have only ever seen one of these in a now closed car museum many years ago, interesting looking cars.
That’s a very clean example of a not so popular car in the 90’s. It was lucky to have a good owner that took really good care of it.
Cool car! I love the quirky look of them!😍😍 As far as I know, they were never sold in Europe,as I have never seen ond here. Weren't they also sold as Geo Storms in The US? We had Isuzu Piazzas here in England in the 80s...i liked them,as well.
This was my very first car. So fun to drive.
Thanks for another honest and not very biased review. (We are all biased a bit as humans.) I hope you always stick to the formula you use. I have always been a car nut and a history nut and very picky about reviews I listen too. Your at the top of my list. Yes, I have seen every episode of British Top Gear, Wheeler Dealers, and listened to Doug on CZcams whom I respect but he is a small step below you. Your candor, humor and love for all cars shows above all else. Who else can drive a beaten down Aspire and review it like a new S-Class Mercedes. No one else seems to have that gift except for you. As my father would have said: "Don't screw it up." Thanks dad big help.
Isuzu Impulse was the most forgotten car next to the Isuzu Stylus and the Geo Storm GSi. I will trade my 06 Acura TL for this ride, but then again I just buy this Isuzu and keep my Acura TL. It's like the best of both worlds but only my Acura is automatic and this one here is a 5-speed manual which is I would have fun driving on the weekends or I would daily it back and forth to work and still have fun. That's what's wrong with America today we don't know how to have fun driving anymore and that's why we get stuck with these boring throw away appliances called crossovers because we don't appreciate what was given to us from overseas. All that we care about is more room, practicality and fuel saving, but don't know how to have fun driving.
I used to see a couple of these roaming around my town back in the days
It’s one of my dream car during its time.
How did I miss this review! 😮
These cars are badass! I'm actually a fan of the Geo storm but you can barely find those nowadays. I believe the Geo storm and the izuzu are similarly made. Impulses seem a bit easier to find but I can't find one in my area of California. Thanks for the video, Zack!
The Geo Storm, and also the Asuna Sunfire, were made by Isuzu for GM. The Storm didn't get the Lotus tuned suspension and the base model had a weaker engine (the GSI had the same engine as the base Impulse)
I was playing some Forza 1 yesterday and had one of these come up in my mirror and I was like "dang that's a mean looking automobile" so funny to see you do a review so soon after!
This car was never in any Forza game.
@@nyctereute9118 looks like your right I wonder what I was thinking of... I'll have to have a look at the race again
@@nyctereute9118 I believe it was an old Integra that I saw. Similar gap between headlights but obviously different headlight shapes. But they bot started with an I so I think that must be it:)
I saw some of these when I was a kid, forgot what they were.
i always liked the storm/impulse for those YA RLY/O RLY lights
there is at least 2 of these in my city that I see driving around from time to time!! he didn't talk about the twin care of the impulse "Asuna sunfire" try and find one of those😱😱
I owned one of these and drove a '91 white XS off the lot after deciding it was cooler and faster than a Honda Prelude.
Crashed it a couple times, both because of the off-throttle oversteer and damaged the suspension/wheels. Was a hoot to drive once I learned how to control the drift post lifting. Was always jealous of the RS model in the cooler colors and 4wd. And yeah the back seat was completely useless. The Lotus badge got the most comments by far.
Overall was a solid cheap vehicle for college and a ton of fun in the backroads. Surprised to see one is such good condition, the interior, paint and plastics were all super cheap and trashed by the time I got rid of mine.
this was my very first car.... its cool, cuz its rare. id like to get my hands on the turbo rs would be a fun car to drive.
I saw a guy in an 80's model at the quarter mile track once (in Tulsa). I had a long talk with him, as I was driving an '86 300zx Turbo at the time. He ran a 16.8. I wish smart phones existed back then. It was a moment in time that will never happen again, lol. The one in your video is just a Geo Storm clone, sadly.
I honestly think the last time I saw one of these was decades ago when I was in Canada and it was badged as an Asuna Sunfire.
The back seat is definitely smaller than the Celica of the same time, though for the Celica I did have me head tilted to the side under the rear glass at 5'9".
YES, ever since I saw one at fb marketplace for 1500$ I've been obsessed with them lol
I remember these from my childhood
Cool video brah
I really love the aesthetics of this car. The front of it looks incredibly modern even by today's standards
Ive always wanted one of these or Geo Storm, but the issue is that they're nearly impossible to find lol
have you had a chance to ride or review Isuzu 117 Coupe? My dad used to drive it and I really want to get this car nowadays
The Geo Storm was a much bigger sales success, but because the Impulse and Stylus sold so poorly, all of these models were discontinued after 1993 and Isuzu exited the US car market to focus on trucks, SUVs, and even attempted a minivan.
And the infamous Isuzu Axiom SUV which I kinda like it.
Early crew ✨
Is this the turbo one? Becausr the NA one is basically jist a Geo Storm.
Ford Mustang GT350 with its 8250 RPM redline enters the room and says: “Hold my Beer 🍺 “
Probably one of the last production cars ever to be equipped with simple round sealed beam headlights. Of course the "eyelids" make them pretty cool.
there were also the geo storm based on that same car
I have the red one of the same model. It is 1800cc of Japanese version.
Please please review a b14 200sx
Handling by Lotus!
Did u know
A 4 cylinder 3.0 4jj1 isuzu diesal did 8 seconds on a quarter mile in the USA, they were the team from Thailand .
This brand is always underrated
Check out CB media
Very cool
Looks like Saturn in the rear
I’ve always thought that as well, like a 1 gen Saturn sc
Geo storm!!!!!
I'm thinking of getting this as my First car. Is it a good choice?
Good luck trying to find one! You're better off looking for a Geo Storm.
Parts
Find something common and cheap and in decent shape. If you can find one of these, it will be none of those things.
Reminds me of a Geo storm
6:18 well it looks like a mk3 supra if someone played with the fov
I prefer its overseas main plate the piazza
I think I found a car I actually want.
No one knows about these cars because almost all of them have been scrapped by now. 9,716 2nd generation Impulses were sold in the United States and only 1,305 were left by the end of 2011. Judging by the rate of attrition since the last report in 2011, there are probably less than 200 still registered in the country as of 2022. These are "still affordable" because whenever one is for sale (which almost never happens since so few are left), it's sold as non-running for parts. These cars were plagued with reliability issues and had abysmal rustproofing. "More fun" is a moot point when it's less reliable to the point of near extinction. I owned a black 1990 Impulse XS for a short time this year, it never ran correctly and it was completely falling apart.
Sooo coool
It looks like a Geo Storm
You're pretty much guaranteed to be the only person showing up in one of these. Isuzu's car history is weird, it's like they tried while at the same time not really trying. If the headlights had slats they'd be like the Alfa Romeo Montreal.
😮
It is not a 1990 just by the form of the steering it is an 1991, it is the same steering as the asuna but not in the 1990, i owned 5 of them , 3 1990 xs, 1 1991 xs and one 1992 asuna
I would rather go buy an Impulse rather than SVX...
i remember i couldnt go over 100, no matter how hard i tried.... always 99 mph... lmao....
Inline 4??? Is there any other kind??? V4 anyone??
Flat 4
Geo Storm alert
You're comparing a mkiv supra and fd rx7 to a fwd na Isuzu? I mean, the rx7 and supra both have never been worth nothing, always some intrinsic value. The Isuzu is a corrolla type car. Not the same unfortunately
Geo storm
Tacoma?
puyallup
It looks like a brand bew Toyota 🤣
I don't care about big bottles
“No one cares”
That’s wrong. I care.
These cars deserved to fail. It wasn't interesting or attractive like the model it replaced. They weren't built well. The Storm made the Impulse unnecessary since there were far more Geo stores. What a waste.
Don't really like the looks of it!
