2009 World Series Highlights: Yankees vs Phillies
Vložit
- čas přidán 31. 12. 2018
- The Yankees were in the World Series for the first time since 2003, and looked to win their first World Series since 2000. The Phillies entered the 2009 World Series as back to back NL Champions, and looked to be back to back World Series Champions. The Yankees tried for their 27th World Series Championship, while the Phillies were looking for their third. This video is important in educating a younger generation of baseball fans about the 2009 World Series, as many of my viewers were too young to experience this live.
Covering sports in a unique way since 2018.
If you’re looking for a place that can educate you with commentary on top of high quality edits, this is the place for you! I’ve covered Baseball (MLB, NCAA, LLWS), Football (NFL, NCAA), Basketball (NBA, NCAA), Hockey (NHL), Softball (NCAA), and much more!
I make my videos on the HP Spectre x360. I use Adobe Premiere Rush to edit, which allows me to commentate and efficiently splice up clips in a high quality way.
One of my favorite accomplishments is revolutionizing the way sports channels create thumbnails. I started making them with team logos on the left, and a game snapshot on the right, and I’ve gotten almost all of my video views with that style.
I have a combined 4 years of experience as a Baseball & Basketball Play by Play announcer, which is where I learned my skills for commentary/breakdowns.

Phillies: We have an army
Yankees: We have Godzilla
Who’s Godzilla? Ik who Godzilla is but which player are you comparing him to?
@@bobcore224 hideki matsui
Matsui so underrated
Not sure where you're from.. he isn't in NY! We love him.
Yo wish I could like this comment 100 times
Godzilla is not underrated, dude was beloved during his time and still has respect
Juan Bolanos imo he is. Doesn’t get talked about enough. Should be loved and recognized even more
Na, he was an average player, just had a way above average series.
In the final game Matsui scored 6 of the 7 runs to take the series. He came out of nowhere, so glad he won WSMVP. This Yankees team was so fun to watch
Same love matsui !
I think ARod had the best case for MVP if Matsui doesn’t have his game 6 explosion
Ah the memories. I miss this Yankees lineup. Man I'm living in the past.
How many Yankees fans does it take to change a lightbulb? None. They just sit around talking about how good the old one was.
@@sportshighlightcollection7433 Hahaha well even if things aren't going our way at least we'll always have something to sit around and brag about.
Cam Yes let’s ignore the fact that Boston is the most successful franchise so far this century. We have a title in our current window. Get one in your current window and then we can talk.
@@sportshighlightcollection7433 I'm not disagreeing.
Cam Good. You admitted reality. You’re moving up in the world.
As a Yankee fan I forgot how Utley absolutely mashed the whole series
Don´t give an opposing team credit. It makes you a traitor. The opposing team are always our enemy and must be destroyed.
Jonas Hall so he can’t appreciate utleys talent ? You sound dumb
@@gnielsen07 just report him for spam its all hes saying in every comment
It's ok they had Ryan Howard weighing them down
He tied the record for most homers in the world series. He was rocking cc satrashia. Lefty on lefty too ryan howard could not hit all them leftys to save his life.utley carried that squad they would of got swept withpit him
Joe buck is the human equivalent of math class
lmao
Don’t ever disrespect math like that again. 😂
I hate him, but he's so much better than Booger McFarland
William Rowley joe buck just hates New york
So true lmao. I’m gonna replace him
MATSUI!!!!
Man was a friggin beast in this series
So was Pasada
Stephen bruh it’s posada. Are you even a true baseball fan?? Matsui was way more productive than posada
@@sohaibmir2727 did I say Posada was more productive...
@@stephen2865 Matsui was the World Series MVP, now STFU......
forgot about utley
This was the end of an era to me, the core of this team is the core of the team that owned baseball in the late 90’s. 5 world championships from 96 98 99 00 and 09…and two appearances where they didn’t win. Pretty damn impressive.
And they shoulda won in 2001. Last play bloop hit and a super rare throwing error by rivera..
The way Matsui drives in 6 RBI to clinch the World Series, tie a 50 year old record, and just casually gets up and adjusts his gloves after each hit, can’t even read his face for emotion. That dude was cool
I was 9 years old when this series happened, it feels like yesterday, still gives me chills
Same bro this was amazing
Same
Totally forgot Pedro pitched for Philadelphia that year. Amazing. And my word Chase Utley was FIRE that series.
They lost. Get REKT!
Jonas Hall Very interesting perspective, thank you.
Yes, Pedro was signed like mid-Series, and at his presser, said "I'm gonna show De Jankees who dey daddy is"...and then proceeded to get shitrocked in the only game he pitched. The front pages of the papers the next day were glorious
How do you forget the crowd chanting WHOS YOUR DADDY?!
Watching because there's no live baseball. I really miss the roar of the crowd!
Watching the games since baseball returned has been incredibly weird for me. To watch Judge or Stanton or any Yankee hit a home run at Yankee Stadium is super strange because its just.........quiet. And the video is so still bc the fans are not there rocking the building so hard that the cameras shake. It's the weirdest thing EVER....
I worked at the yankee stadium for the 2009 World Series best ever!!!
Godzilla and Arod were amazing but as a Yankee fan you got to give it to Utley. He was ridiculously ridiculous that series.
Without a doubt
He's still revered as a god here in Philly.
@@chazcov08 the only postseason that arod was not useless.
HE OWNS CC SABATHIA.... UNREAL
Matsui deserves more credit for this Series
100% he was clutch
He won World Series MVP
@@FlipFreedom1997 that’s how much of an impact he made lmaooo won series MVP and people still say he needs more credit what a beast
@@FlipFreedom1997 Yes he did, the last World Series Championship the Yankees will have won in any of our lifetimes. 100% guaranteed.
I'll never forget that series. Game 6 Matsui with 6 RBI's.👍
Truly amazing how many great games Buck has single handedly ruined for me.
Why does everyone hate Buck so much?
@@brettsinger9565 check out his calls on the David Tyree catch and the 2001 World Series, to name 2 off the top of my head. He's turned dozens of historically exciting plays into the mundane. He's since turned that around but it sounds fake considering his past performances.

2011 World Series. Some call it a tribute, but the Freese walk off call was a total rip off of his dad because he is very unoriginal, overstates the way obvious, and ive seen the word mundane passed around. If youre a Yankees fan, listen to the differences between the Sierra, Mattingly, and O'Neil homers called by Gary Thorne in the 95 ALDS. Gary Thorne makes Joe Buck look like buzz killington from family guy.
I remember trick or treating as a 12 year old while game 3 was going on and this one house had the game on and saw I was dressed as Derek Jeter and invited us all inside to watch the rest of the inning. Great memory. Go Yanks!
It’s crazy that Gardner still plays, and plays good!
In all fairness he was very young at this point
@@tawmydukes "In all fairness?" That's how time/aging works. I am confused by your response.

I will never understand why or how Joe Buck is allowed to call these big games, listening to him is the equivalent of watching paint dry.

The 2008 and 2009 Phillies we're simply the best in their team's Franchise
it all starters back in 2006 o 2007 when they almsot made it to the postseason or don't remember if they got eliminated on the first round . but from 2007 to 2010 Phil's were a pretty good team to watch
The 2008 Phillies haunt my dreams. I'm a Rays fan

2008 and 1980. How can you take a non championship team over 1980?
So weird seeing Andy petit wearing a warm up running the bases
The Yankees had an all-star lineup in 2009
Damon is what ellsbury was supposed to be
..and he was not.. it was a gamble but it was a really big risk given Ells health issues at that time.. Yanks took the risk and lost..
Yeah he was trash, he had one good year with Boston and they give him 100m + for pretty much 6 games in 5 years or so lol
I was 11 when this series was happening.. my pops allowed us to watch 5 innings each game before putting us to bed.. man I wish I could’ve watch this whole series 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This video reminds me why the Yanks didn’t repeat in 2010. Losing Matsui and Damon were huge
Great offense on both sides, I was so stressed wanting the Yanks to win, I truly missed what a great series this was, the see-saw battles. I have to be honest, I’m 54 yrs old and don’t enjoy baseball when the Yankees get in the playoffs, it’s so damned nerve wracking I can’t enjoy the games. Funny, in the 90’s when the Yankees had that great run I did enjoy it. I was in jail in ‘96 so baseball wasn’t a priority, ‘97, ‘98, and ‘99 I was still using drugs, so it was just ok. I got clean 11/12/99 so in October 2000 I was 11 months sober and really enjoyed the Subway Series. I was roofing at the time and was breathing very heavy taking shingles up the ladder, I decided to quit smoking on 10/21/2000 Game 1 of the Met/Yankee World Series! Every day has been a gift since, now I get too stressed out watching post season baseball with the Yankees in it! Life is beyond strange!!!
What a beautiful WS, I still got my Yankees cap from that year
I remember in those days the saying was "The only reason the Phillies didn't won the 2009 World Series was because Cliff Lee couldn't pitch every game" He was that dominant specially against my Yankees. Glad we got that series though. Both team where incredible and deserving of the Ring.
Never gets old
Damon had a noodle arm but man was he fast, and a smart baseball player. I loved this team so much, no other team was as much fun as this. I was a senior in college at the time and popped champagne in my dorm after the final out.
It's been 12 long years. Let's go 2021 Yanks
It's been 3 years since your comment and they have gotten.worse.and worse and will be trash in 2024
Not even our best year! And still looked like legends out there!
As a 7 year old kid at the time this is the team that made me fall in love with the yankees, as well as the greatest shortstop of all time
A-Rod?
ladistar lol i was too young to remember him at short
These were the Yankees I grew up watching. First ever sports memory was my first time in the old stadium in 06 and all I remember is everyone being on top of you and the whole stadium shaking whenever one of the big 3 came to bat. Wish I could go back tbh
As a yankee fan one of the best experiences of my life and the fact that I had the opportunity to go to game 6 when they won🙏🏻💪🏻
I worked that World Series in 2009 it was the best day in my life🥰
11:40 Six year old me was ready to go through the TV screen. I still have my small Pedro Feliz jersey. That comeback by the Yankees in the next inning was and still is heartbreaking to me. I wish the Phillies won in 2022, but 2009 will always be haunting to me.

As a Mets fan who has family that supports both Mets and Yankees, it was bittersweet watching the Yankees beat the Phillies. I dont hate the Yankees I have a soft spot for them and was thrilled when they beat Philly.
Chase Utley almost singlehandedly won this series for Philly. Even tho it was 4-2 this was a very good series. Yankees just had too many great hitters

Game 2: PHI 1 NYY 3
Game 3: NYY 8 PHI 5
Game 4: NYY 7 PHI 4
Game 5: NYY 6 PHI 8
Game 6: PHI 3 NYY 7
I'll always remember when Joe Buck called the final out of the 96' series..... "Hayes waits.....The Yankees are Champions of baseball..

Lol 96 world series was way more intense from games 3-6.
Who's watching this in 2022 as the Phillies are World Series bound?
Let’s go baby
It’s 4am and I’m watching the highlights of a World Series from 13 years ago between 2 teams I have zero affiliation with
Matsui mashed this series holy
Good times!!! Hoping the 2022 Yankees win it all too.
Many good memories watching this Highlights I really hope to see my Yankees winning other world series soon
Watching these highlights you would think nobody pitched well in this series.
Cliff Lee, Pedro, Pettite, Burnett and CC all pitched great.
Wow. Utley OWNED CC. What a series even in a losing effort
I’m a met fan, let’s go Yankees
Chase Utley man. Would it be blasphemous to say in his prime, Chase Utley is arguably the greatest 2nd Baseman of All-Time? He literally did it all...
- Hit for Power
- Hit for Average
- Play Great Defense
- Be a great Team Leader
- ENORMOUS Baseball IQ
- Comes up BIG in Clutch Moments
Why We Love Film only joe Morgan was better. He’s 2nd
Roberto alomar
that yankees line up was just great
Surprised at how many players in that World Series have had important moments with other teams. Happ pitches for us now, Utley had the slide, Pedro was huge with the Sox. Also, Pettite wore a jacket on the bases. Didn’t think that was legal.
I love this!
Ufffff en ese tiempo la alineacion de los Phillies estaba simplemente poderosa
La de los yankis estaba más dura todavía😂 alex Cano damon masuit posada teixeira jeter mira eso no se compará
Cliff Lee era un abuso
Game 4: When it happened, I thought the main headline would be that A-Rod had cemented his postseason of redemption with the game-winning 9th inning double to put the Yankees up 3-1 in the series, which may have been his most important, crucial hit of his career. Perhaps even iconic. As time passed, the story of that game became more about Johnny Damon being crafty and stealing 2nd and then 3rd on the same play to set up the A-Rod double in that 9th inning rally. While that was a brilliant play, I felt that A-Rod needed that double for his legacy and he got it. I was thrilled for him. Of course this was before I knew just how bad of a steroid guy (Biogenesis?!?!) he really was.
Here, we see A-Rod's double but no Damon double-stolen base preceding it, which feels odd. I get it though, this reel is mostly only showing how the runs were scored. I would have included big strikeouts, great defensive plays, last outs of the game, but then again my highlight reels tend to be a bit long, as do my comments.
Mariano Rivera when he got the save he was like oh “SH@&” Everybody was swarming him like crazy
@@TheJester39 Not to mention Mo had been pitching through rib injury since the ALCS.
I wish this had the Sterling calls. Joe Buck's horrendous.
Go! Yankees!
Damn Utley was en fuego that post season. He couldn’t miss!
I was so pissed The Phillies didn’t go back 2 back that year but I gained respect for The Yankees
Even though the Phillies lost, that man Utley deserved the MVP.

What's the song they play after matsui's homerun?
The Yankees played great baseball and won as a result of it.
Phils blew two games
Busy in Boot Camp while this Gem was going on
I worked at yankee stadium during the World Series best moment in my life
Game 3 may not be a great WS game but it is an underrated Yankees classic. They fall behind early 3-0, A-Rod has that crazy camera homerun, I think his only career World Series home run, to get them back in the game. Andy Pettitte gets a solid RBI single, then comes around to score, awesome to see in a World Series game. Nick Swisher gets a homerun and Swish, I loved the guy but he was awful in the postseason, great to see him go yard. Matsui the series MVP got a pinch HR also. Oh yeah, and it was played on Halloween. I watched the A-Rod HR at the bar while people around me were dancing around in various costumes. I went home and watched the rest when I found they were not going to put the sound on the game. They wanted to keep playing music to keep the girls in costumes and the Halloween crowd occupied.
Que buena final
With the Yankees signing Corey Kluber and Luis Severino coming back hopefully this is the year they return to the World Series
Wrong.
