The good old days.Nice old minnesota team.
What a lineup!
Loved that season all year calgary and montreal battled for #1. They met in the cup and flames won in this building. I'm a flames fan but respect to mtl
OMG, This is my childhood.
I really miss the consistency of our old school Habs. Players make way too much nowadays and have no issues jumping from one team to another.😒
Very solid team.
Nostalgic colors. Seeing the old NorthStars bring back a lot of memories from living in North Dakota as a kid, where the Stars were *the* team.
Thx for Bobby Smith no thx for 1980
I grew up in Montreal mid 70's though the 90's I was spoiled tbh. But my first goalie mask was Gilles Meloche from your beloved Stars. He was a great goalie and 1980 Stars wars a great team.
Rick Green was one of the underrated D-man ever
I miss these two commentators. Mr. Richard Garneau and Mr. Gilles Tremblay. The voice of my Saturday Nights growing up.
Pour moi l'autre côte du coin, Dick Irvin et Danny Gallivan.
What a line up. Even the guys in suites were solid players.
This was a fantastic lineup: 6 Hall of Famers (Roy, Robinson, Gainey, Chelios, Carbonneau and Pat Burns), 6 Conn Smythe Trophy winners (Roy 3 times, Robinson, Gainey, Claude Lemieux), 3 players with their numbers retired by the Canadiens (Roy, Robinson, Gainey), at least 43 Stanley Cup rings + many individual award winners
Do you have footage of the home opener of the 1995-96 seasons?
Great lineup indeed. If the Oilers, and Flames, weren't so powerful at this time, the Habs may have won more Cups during this time period.
Xhabs, how did you archive your great video quality?
Lets not forget 3 times jack adams winner:Pat Burns RIP
@@briancusack4386 I really believe that had the Canadiens been able to find a world class goalie between Dryden and Roy, they definitely would have won a cup between '79 and '86. They even drafted Tretiak!! So obviously they knew that was what was holding them back.
A great season sadly forgotten. Just because Patrick Roy did not accomplished enough miracles during the final against the Flames. And this is sad, because that 88-89 team was great during both reagular season and the playoffs.
Totally agree. In fact, I think the 88-89 team was better than the '86 and '93 squads that actually won the Cup. Montreal just had the misfortune of running into a great Calgary team.
This team was better than their 1993 Cup winning team.
Christ, I'm sure glad this game didn't get outta hand ! In the North Stars line-up they had Link Gaetz, Curt Fraser, Brian McLellan, Dean Kolstad, Bob Rouse, Kevin Kaminski, Richard Zemlak, Basil McRae, and Larry DePalma, all solid fighters. All Montreal had was 40 yr old Larry Robinson, Shayne Corson, Mike McPhee, and John Kordic.
yeah we were lucky the goal of that game was to actually score goals =D
Good team that yr . I remember watching this at a bar and when they introduced Burns some guy said,he'll be gone by Christmas
A few things to point out.
First, this was the first season with the Canadiens' bench at where the penalty box used to be, the Visitors' bench is now at the Habs' old bench, and the Penalty Box is now at the old Visitors' Bench. I'm guessing they did that sort of Musical Chairs due to the Brawl in the Hall from two years earlier.
Second, this was the end of an era as the last two members of the 70s dynasty left at the end of the season (Gainey retired and Robinson signed with the Kings as a free agent).
Third, and this is more of a question--who was the guy in the LSDH blazer standing by as the Habs are introduced? I should also point out that this was the first year of the royal blue blazers, which were worn until the 1990s (1993 for the English crew, 1994 for the French crew).
Thanks !
I remember the balding older gentleman.....he was always escorting or helping out on occasions such as this.
French Canadian forum worker probably top usher man who gained this position for experience & longevity.
I was at this game, vacationing in Montreal for a week. Only game I ever attended at the Forum. Great arena, the Bell Centre is awful by comparison.
pure nostalgia
Wow ! This is the Montreal Canadiens!
how do you have 1080p video from 1988?
what couldve been in the Final
Naslund's helmet, that Torspo, has to be the single ugliest bucket I've ever seen. Worse than the mid-80s adjustable Cooper, worse than the Nike/Bauer 8500, just a dreadful helmet.
The ugliest helmet was Robbie Ftorek's
