Conjoined Twins and Best Friends (The Story of Callie and Carter)

- Callie and Carter are conjoined twins and best friends. They are normal kids who love video games, makeup, and cupcakes. Their peers sometimes tease the girls by calling them a "spider". Callie and Carter's family wants others to know that they are just typical kids in a unique situation.

I hope they have a thousand lipsticks, Taco Bell, and a lifetime membership to the aquarium 🥰

"You don't always need a thousand friends, you just need the right two." That is so true and so powerful.
Kinda poetic right?
I have felt so lonely most of my life and these last few years I've had to deal with the fact that my husband and family might be all I have in the long run. And they're the best friends I could ask for. I cried when I heard those words, they are indeed powerful.
That's true for everyone. Having even one friend truly makes life bearable and enjoyable.

Conjoined twins are like snowflakes.
These have to be the most adorable little girls I've ever seen. I couldn't stop laughing when Callie was thinking of what her one wish would be and Carter whispered to her, "A taco!"
But then didn't waste her own wish on it a haha so cute and funny
Great kids❤
Neither girl wished to be separated.
Right ! But then wished for something else when it was her turn 😂😂😂
Oh my goodness they’re so cute I can hardly stand it! So charming.
The way they run originally freaked me out, but then you realize how mobile they are together and it’s kinda amazing. Like you think it’d be hard, but they make that and walking look easy despite both legs being controlled separately. And with 2 sets of ears for balance on a single body too. When they say walking is hard, no one can even imagine how it would feel or be like
I thought walking looked really laborious for them, but using 6 limbs much easier ... although I wonder how that will be when they're 40.
@@vicksenful Not to bully or make fun but that's actually pretty funny. It's probably a pain in the neck
@@vicksenful
I also worry for them when they're older.
@@davidadams2395 I mean, best outcome is they're probably less prone to falling like a standing human would. When you get older it's sometimes just easier to crawl, it might even put less strain on them because it's more limbs holding them up. Who knows tho.
@@davidadams2395They can't be surgically separated right? Could be risky even if each has a heart and their backs are separate.

I also loved the "shes thinking over there"
Everybody needs to watch these interviews. Carter and Callie are just like all the other kids out there who love lipstick, Taco Bell and aquariums. They have dreams, fears, interests, etcetera. They’re just kids, who happen to be conjoined twins. As humans, when we see people who are different, we automatically just see them as their diagnosis, without thinking about how they’re human beings who are just like anyone else. This was me before I found Chris’ channel. The work he does is life changing and is making a positive impact on our world. God bless you sir❤️
Ah yes, the perfect combo. Lipstick Taco Bell themed aquariums.

Thanks for doing this work, Chris! It’s important to show disabled folks as actual human beings. So often, disability is seen as something to hide or to exclude. We’ve gotten better, but these videos help make things better!
wow so derogatory
@@brian8902 It's not derogatory though, they're right. It's shameful, but our society does often treat people with disabilities like a hush hush topic that should not be mentioned. That's just true. And OP implied that's not right. Which it isn't. And please don't start with "disabled" is a derogatory term, not a single person I know with a disability has anything other than an eye roll for "differently abled". Not a single fat person wants to be called "heavier person" or whatever the term is now. Changing the term isn't what makes it better but actually treating people better is important.
i’d hardly say they’re disabled. they’re able to do anything but go in separate rooms, they’re not even fully deaf. i don’t think they fit the definition of disabled.
@@annnee6818 I have always seen my disability as just that- a dis ability. It is what makes it harder for me to live life like a neurotypical person would, therefore to me it is a disability. I don’t find it derogatory, but rather defining. I choose to go by that label.
I think if a person prefers to say difference, or just say the name, or disability- whatever they want to call it, that’s their choice and how they view their experience in life.
@@kaitlyndoucet2151 they absolutely fit the definition of disabled. They have one or more impairments that substantially limit a major life activity, and it have malformations or disfigurements that would be protected by the ADA and the Rehab Act of 1973. It broke my heart to hear about the kids at school calling them a spider. Parents teach your children that its ok to ask questions its ok to be curious but its not ok to make fun of anyone. This starts in the home. Teach exceptence, teach that were not all the same were all different in our own unique ways. Everyone deserves love and exceptance. Everyone deserves friends. I think they are smart, fun and taken well care of and loved very much.
Don’t know if the kid said it to tease ,or if he was genuinely confused and made a comment without thinking . The kids are pretty young and don’t always understand what’s ok to say aloud. Explaining it kindly to them without anger, is the best lesson.

There's something poetic about the fact that all conjoined twins have unique anatomies. Everyone's special, but they carry their special on the outside and express their uniqueness in everything they do.
Abby and Brittany Hansel ( conjoined twins) are teachers now. They are REALLY good and the kids love them. These two are Cutie Pies. My dad, a Pediatric surgeon of forty years, discussed conjoined twins to me when I was a kid. I had a lot of questions. He has had a few difficult cases where he was head of the final team. When separation is considered it takes SEVERAL months of planning , possibly much longer. Consultations , meeting, discussions as well as practice runs are done until the final team of surgeons plus anyone else who needs to contribute in OR work in concert like a symphony when the time comes. Specialists are flown in from all over TO be that team. There is always a back up plan. Just an incredible process. It all depends on how they are conjoined. These two are doing great! Intelligent, healthy and best of all THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Surgeons are heroes but you don't often get to see one until a doctor deems you worthy of their time.
Very interesting. I love Abby & Brittany and have been following their story for years. They have the cutest personalities.

@@karenespindola7 Not so, they each have their own hearts. They possess only one urinary bladder, only one "bottom," but separate lungs, separate hearts, separate spinal columns, separate minds, thoughts, & pedsonalities. However, their parents have chosen _NOT_ to risk a separation surgery, as they have done SO VERY WELL as conjoined twins! (Thought you'd appreciate the clarification.)

I commend the mom for sharing her truth about how she struggled with thoughts and decisions throughout the pregnancy. All the best for these girls to prosper as the get older.
@Violetta Denisova I study Polycephaly in animals. Recently at the lab I work at we have found that this is a genetic adaptation for all animals, instead of just being random fusion of embryos. So in reptiles that have the genetic trait and proper nutrient consumption, they will give birth to a dicephaly offspring. Which can benefit from neural symbiosis, better cell dispersion, and better regenerative processes. While I cannot speak to these adaptations in humans, I see some signs of these adaptations in Callie and Carter. They only disperse hearing into 1 ear per twin because its more advantageous. If you watch Callie when she moves her legs, Carter will tick (most likely because Callie has main control of dispersion through the CNS). Also I don’t doubt they have really good muscle development compared to most people. So I dont think anyone belongs in a zoo, they are an attempt of natural human genetics to evolve and move forward.
I can't see this as adaptation if you can't survive on your own in nature
@@barodrinksbeer7484I have never read such crap. Is this 'evolution'? No it's two little girls who are condemned to an abnormal life.

So glad they were born to the most selfless, compassionate parents. Our society would be in a much better place if we embraced each others differences, instead of judging and isolating people who differ from the norm. Quality of life depends on the support and treatment of disabled people, not their disability.
just goes to show that we're still deep in the dark ages with the way our world behaves... very few people are trying to make that difference. even the Prophets of all religions in history have told people that they need to wake up, find peace, joy, happiness within yourselfs. All of Christianty has missed the whole point of their book , they didn't even listen to their God-their God said that the kingdom is with inside of you, if you seek shall you shall find it. many other great teachers said similar stuff- but people don't listen. All of today's religions and beliefs have missed the point they'rs teachers, we have been kept asleep and failed by our leaders

It fills me with so much joy watching these girls rip around laughing and squeeling !! I hope they have the best time !!!
It's utterly amazing that this is even possible.
I kinda, agree. It's probably not wise to seperate them now. It's their body- so they should make that decision for themselves when they are older and can properly comprehend the risks. The bladder part is a bit dodgey; but i've seen two girls separated and were similarly conjoined. Things did work out well for them in the end. But considering it's such a huge life change, its probably a good idea to let the twins decide when they're older.
I thought the same...these lovely girls may decide when they are older that they would indeed like to live independently of each other, but these 2 parents are so amazing that I'm sure they will support the girls 100% should they choose to be separated in the future ❤
Exactly what I was thinking! I went onto their instagram and was appalled at the amount of comments saying to separate them. That should be their own decision.
I think they are perfect just the way they are. I just wanted to chime in in what you said. Many times, and as much as we would like to give each individual the ability to make their own choices, that is just not feasible. Certain medical issues require parents to make those difficult decisions for their children. In hearing loss degrees that could benefit from cochlear implants, the auditory nerve and brain areas that process sound atrophy without stimulation, so if you get implanted in your later tweens or young adulthood, you will likely not be able to process/understand speech through listening. For conjoined twins, the recommendation is surgery before age 1: tissues need to be extended and grown, graffs prepared, bones grown, etc.; growth rhythms, healing rhythms, brain plasticity, those are all time-framed issues. If they were to decide to have surgery today, the consequences would be brutal compared to when they were born. I think they are lovely, amazing girls who will drive their parents nuts :)
Eu havia entendido que elas dividiam um só coração..
@@karenespindola7 They have completely separate organs aside from their bladder. So yeah, its possible. The issue is that they will each lose a leg and one will have to have to have another surgery and wear a bag to hold their pee for the rest of their lives. Basically. So it would be a very life altering operation, for sure.
I have never seen anyone with as much empathy and love for humanity as Mr Chris. Beautiful human being. great videos to watchwhen you feel down.
This video really made my day, i haven't seen such cute children in a long time. They are perfect just the way there are and i love how they run around it's so funny. I just recently saw a documentary about conjoined twins that were separated and it didn't end well for one of them so why to separate them at all if they work just fine? Some people seem to think doctors are gods but in fact, nature made these kids perfect, there's nothing to "fix". The energy coming out from these children is shining and beautiful.. they'll be amazing adults.
I love how Callie warned the boy to run, since he wants to call them a spider. 😂💕
As someone who was born disabled I am so glad I wasnt just thrown away. Disabled people of any type have value if you cant handle raising a disabled child others will gladly do it. Callie and Carter are amazing and such a wonderful example of the value of all life what awesome parents what an amazing Mom for trusting her heart and not being pushed to dispose these amazing children. I could watch these two kids all day they are just an utter delight. Well done Mom and Dad for giving them all the love and normalcy they need and deserve. I hope and know they will have a great life even with the bumps in the road it is obvious they have been given a great foundation by their parents and they both know they have each other always.
Unfortunately people are still tossing them out.. they are considered useless worthless to society.. sad that people are like that..
It's about the value of woman's bodily autonomy, about the value of her health and life. If this woman chose to have her girls, it's HER choice, not my business. My choice would be different and it's not your business.
Yes. Every soul matters.
@@asiajo999 murder should not be a choice
@@spiritwarrior2942 It's not murder because the fetus is not a person yet.
I love that none of them wished to be separated. They are who they are and love life❣️
They want to separate them more than anything. Why would you want to live your life like that,
I have identical twin sons that are the same age. It brought tears to my eyes watching how these girls are exactly like my own sons. A twin relationship truly is astounding. They fight like crazy, but in the end, they are each other’s world. Lately they’ve been entering into what I call “twin land” together. It’s a place where the only two people who exist are each other. They zone out and play because no one else in the world matters more. Twins are such a beautiful thing to experience.
When Carter asked Callie if she was okay after they jumped made my heart melt😫💕
I think it's cool how they take turns being in the sitting up position, like they have an unspoken agreement! I hope they always get along as well as they seem to in this video...they don't always agree on everything but they compromise. And that should be a lesson to us all! God Bless these sweet girls and I wish them both a happy healthy long life❤❤❤
These little girls are absolutely incredibly bright, confident, sweet and well adjusted, even if they were not conjoined!
Holy cow, what an amazing family!
WELL DONE MOM & DAD!!!
Thank you for sharing your truly special family!!
Callie and Carter are such distinctly different girls, but they work together so well! I can definitely tell Callie is the more quiet type while Carter loves to chat. Even while Carter is talking, she knows Callie well enough to say some of her answers for her, and Callie seems quite satisfied with simply chilling out. It's lovely to see them be so different yet so emotionally connected with each other.
My daughter is 2 1/2 years and autistic. We also have a 12 and 13 year old. I’ve watched this channel for awhile now and this dad gave the BEST advice I’ve heard. “A new life adventure that we weren’t prepared for is not the end, no matter what it is. There’s always ways to alter the story” Perfectly said
I like that advice too. It almost made me tear up a little bit.
💝
I love that so much. We can all alter our own stories, too
From a fellow mom of a now 20 year old autistic son, your comment resonates as so true! I've learned so much from him. ❤
Yeah, and it would be such a much more beautiful world if we would allow all of us to be as different as we are instead of longing for all the same beauty standard like models!
I appreciate that these parents were encouraged enough to get these twin children and even have a brother afterwards.
I feel so touched in a good way.
Thank you for introducing your kids to us.
Love to all of you,
nice family!
Maren
PS
Did you ever thought about sign language for the twins? Might be easier for their communication if they are partly deaf. I am amazed how good they speak even if they are partly deaf. As I know from my sister that spoken language develops even better when deaf or less able to hear people learn first sign language. Because they will be able to express themselves more fully and after understanding the grammar of sign language they will be able to express even better in spoken words.
Just give it a try ❤
I like that getting separated can be their choice when they're older if they want to do that or not, rather than the parents making the choice to put them through something like that.
These parents and twins have so much patience and love. And wisdom… ❤🙏🏽
The husband is one of my favorite parents SBSK has interviewed. His philosophy on life and challenges, despite his own, are beautiful. He describes things so well, just like them being little snowflakes ❄️
Ditto. He seems like a really exceptional father and husband. What a delightful little family.
A heart for Dad💙a heart for Mom❤Hearts for Callie&Carter💜💖& 0ne for baby brother💙 what a beautiful family and bless that Mom for not following through and listening to the doctors.❤
Yesss!!
Oh my goodness, this dad! What a wonderful dad!
This was an absolute delight to watch. I am glad this mom showed delight in her twin daughters and decided to show life and love to the beautiful children.
What a beautiful family
So did their Dad.
These two girls are friggin' crackin' me up!
Typical sisters. 🥰🥰
Good job parents. Those girls I am sure are a huge blessing to you two and your extended family. You guys are hero’s.
These girls are so cute, smart, and adorable...but what struck me the most was the maturity of the parents and thier well balanced perspective + thier prioritization of the immense value of the lives of thier daughters. We need more parents like them of children in this country. Those girls will probably have a better life and a brighter future than many who are gifted with what we ignorantly classify as "normal" bodies and situations. God bless this family in every way.
Same! The parents are lovely. You’re doing an awesome job, guys!
These two are definitely the Yin to each other’s Yang! Their personalities are so different, that’s what makes them such a great team.
These two darling 6 year olds are incredibly verbal! Quick thinkers, quick wit, great imaginations, sincerity, authenticity and value their own unique thoughts and ideas!
Oh, I wanna hang out with these two! Aquariums, lipstick, Taco Bell... that is my kind of day! Also, "I kinda like my mom more than my dad" 🤣
Are we best friends?? Let's hit up Sephora , an aquarium and get some Taco Bell after!
LOL
😂
I appreciate Momma Bear being forthcoming about how she was pressured to abort prior to delivery because of the diagnosis as well as explaining why they chose to not pursue surgical separation.
You're an Amazing Mom!
Callie & Carter are So blessed to have wonderful and LOVING parents in their lives!!!
I agree :) she is definitely the right woman to parent these two!
Yes, people should have a choice!
@@Catlily5 A choice to deny Callie & Carter life?
@@radfoo72 Yes, if the mother couldn't handle it. Obviously this mother can handle it and made the right choice. I am happy for their family.
@@Catlily5 I'm sorry I just can't imagine not letting them live. I know it happens all the time but everyone deserves a chance no matter their disposition.
Chris! you are such a pure soul and kind hearted person, Thank you for sharing this to us. May LORD accept your efforts and bring peace and ease in the life of these kinds.
I see these girls are definetly happy, well adjusted normal as can be.I really enjoyed seeing them ,it feels good that i see two really and truly happy kids.❤❤❤Ty Chris.Way to go to thier family they are a joy .
Hey, Chris! I really appreciate the easy to read captions, but if I could make a suggestion: it's much easier to follow captions when you're deaf if there's something to distinguish between each speaker (like perhaps the white text could always be you and it could be other colors for different speakers? I don't think that would affect legibility since the orange border stands out so well). Given we have to focus so much on the captions, sometimes it's hard to visually tell who said something. It's easier when it's just you and one special guest, because your tone is recognizable, but I struggled to follow this one because I couldn't tell which twin was saying what. Thanks for all you do!
Great idea i second it!
Sounds too complicated
@@ultimatesunrise i doubt its that complicated for a guy like chris. Maybe it is for you though. Luckily your not the one making videos to educate about the disability community.
I like how they do captions on tv or movies. They put the name of the person speaking in front of the captions. Maybe he could just do that if the color thing doesnt work out.
@@ultimatesunrise I mean, I don't think changing font color is that hard, but guess what buddy, accessibility is complicated. Doesn't mean we don't deserve it.
My goodness Carter is quite the conversationalist 😂 Callie seems content to listen to her sister while she fiddles with her make up or daydreams. Absolutely beautiful young ladies 💜
@18:07 did you hear them ever so softly count 1-2-3 so they could coordinate their jump? No shortage of brain power with these two! Wow!
They have great balance and teamwork!
