‘8 Passengers’ Mom Pleads Guilty in Child Abuse Case

- Social media influencer mom Ruby Franke pled guilty in a Utah court to child abuse charges. The 41-year-old mom became famous for documenting life with her husband and six kids on her CZcams channel called "8 Passengers." However, her fame came crashing down when one of her sons showed up at a neighbor's house, asking for help. In pleading guilty, Franke says she was "subjected to a distorted sense of morality” shaped by her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt.
She can't blame anyone but herself. As a mom she failed to protect and care for her kids.

I'm not sure if you know exactly what Ruby did to these kids. This went way beyond failing to protect. She held their heads under water, punished them for sneaking food while she starved them, forced them to work in dessert heat conditions, shamed them, terrified them. This crosses way past failing to protect.

There is no way their father/her husband did not see that they were emaciated they were starving so bad...... there is no way that he had no idea that those kids were being abused/neglected. He was either helping abuse/neglect directly OR he is just as guilty for knowing about it all that time and never reporting it...... how the heck is he not rotting behind bars too?

@aprilmilnes3583 those were my thoughts also regarding the father unless he lived in a separate residence. He should be charged also as a responsible adult aiding in the neglect and abuse of the children. Some things aren't adding up here.

Shame on her, the family who did nothing, and Utah authorities in the SLC area.

Like her ENTIRE FAMILY who were too busy being self absorbed in their own narcissism that they couldn’t intervene as they didn’t notice the abuse. It’s only been going on for years. It all starts with grandma and grandpa but they dropped their YT channel and haven’t returned as they don’t want to deal with questions coming into their channel. Secondly, they were on a mission trip the entire time Ruby was supposedly unraveling with her female friend. They’re hard core narcs as is her sister Bonnie (whom I believe is even more pathological and the worst of them all). She too busy being back on her own channel making daily content that she can’t take in any of Ruby’s children.

The worst part is when Bonnie announced on her channel that they knew about the abuse for 3 years and only called the cops instead of actually doing something more about it. She even monitized that video. She's also abusive verbally to her children and maybe even physically. I totally agree that she's the worst of the bunch. Maybe they can investigate her next.

How was the husband not charged if both lived in the same house and he was okay with the abuse?
They were separated I believe. He hasn't lived with her for some time. Not saying that makes him less guilty though. Still no excuse for him not stepping in and getting his kids out of that situation.
He shouldn’t be charged, blame the family court for taking custody from fathers.

It's sad that it all flies under the radar because of the culture there. "Those kinds of things don't happen here! We all have good morals, religious or not!" I had a mormon friend when I was in high school that moved away to Utah our senior year after she was forced by her parents, and she ended her own life a few months later… I will never forget her

Can't believe after so many years of watching her channel videos she is arrested and charged with child abuse. Never in my life did I ever think she was that kind of person to abuse children especially her own children. It makes me sick to even think that she could even do that to her kids and make their lives a living hell and a nightmare. The world really has become a seriously bad place
It really does not seem like she has any actual remorse. She seems as though she is listening to her lawyer and pretending to be remorseful in order to get a lenient sentence. Those poor children have to live with that abuse the rest of their lives. I really hope she goes to prison and learns her lesson.

as a child abuse survivor that started in my young teens this makes my heart break for her children. it is hard to come back from a blood parent abusing you it really is one of the hardest things someone can go through but i know anyone who does can get through it.

So now they shouldn't look for alternatives because 'they must bear the consequences of forgetting their lunch'? I can't believe her channel lasted that long when she's spouting nonsense like that. If any parent wishes their child doesn't get any food today, the only logical course of action is to report that to authorities.

She plead guilty to four counts, each with a range of 1-15 years in sentencing to be served consecutively. One of the charges she pled guilty to was holding down her kid's head down in water and another she was blocking their airways so they couldn't. She straight up waterboarding her kids like a monster.

Also is it a mandatory consecutive sentence? My worry is she will get them all concurrent with minimum time & be out in 9 months minus what she already served because of good time.
