Meanwhile, police had been called to the home almost a dozen times in the last 18 months for welfare checks etc, were told by Shari there were 4 kids left home alone by neglectful parents...& the cops did nothing.
The issue is not that Shari didn't 'articulate' properly, or that she somehow failed. She did her job! She alerted police to a situation of child neglect & the police did nothing. Blame the police, they're the responsible law enforcement entity that failed to properly investigate & charge the lawbreakers.
The husband needs to face charges as well for benign neglect if nothing else.

One of my relatives was abused on a near-daily basis. Mom and dad will always call it discipline, even when the kid bleeds. Hurting weak people first is always a crime.
This is why corporal punishment needs to be abolished. It's profoundly unconstitutional as an equal protection violation, and the kids will suffer until its too late to help them without years of devoted therapy and other recovery.
No more excuses. This has to be illegal.

Ruby took the plea deal to get a break on her charges. It was all about her. I don't believe she did it to heal her relationship with her kids. Otherwise, she would have changed a long time ago when petitions were filed. To me, she's always had that narcissistic air about her. Well, you got caught. In many cases, it's disturbing when parents figure out how to make money off of their children. Some parents can do this responsibly by setting aside the money that their children make in savings accounts, like Ron and Clint Howard's parents, but others mismanage it and live off of it, like Shirley Temple's parent's. But with the internet, it's so much easier to expose and exploit children.
