Thank you, for doing Ledisi, she doesn’t get the respect she deserves she’s such a underrated Vocalist.
She is nutty. And daaaaang can she scat.
Very underrated and such a beautiful talent and range.
I was so ecstatic she won the Grammy! She truly deserves it. Super underrated.
I agree. Folks can calm down. It's not like Taylor swift won the R&B Grammy. This woman can SING.
She deserved that Grammy ‼️
Agreed. She more than paid her dues.
Hell that backup singer killing it also.
She absolutely is. I regret not giving it more attention.
They call her "Sangin Sally"
She's actually in the comments on their tiny desk performance.
The background singer is 🔥👏🏾
Yeah. In hindsight I didn't do her justice. She's fantastic.
She's 🔥
I love how she smiles when she sings
“The Body Is A Instrument” I LOVE IT
Wish I could take credit for it. I heard it elsewhere, but yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Singing is very holistic.
So, Phyllis Hyman gave Rachelle Ferrell her break singing background. Rachelle Ferrell gave Ledisi her break.
Rachelle, Lalah and Ledisi are friends and sing together often.
That seasoning in her voice is New Orleans seasonings.
I need to visit New Orleans and get away from this Nevada salt and pepper.
@@LesageSinging That's hilarious. Salt & pepper is ok, yet I knew exactly what you meant.
LEDISI IS THE TRUTH!!💖😎🔥🎶
I've attended a Ledisi concert and I've had the honor of interviewing her. She's one of my favorite celebrities and singers. Like her voice, she has such a warm personality.
I really wish this kind of singing was more popular. I don't think people appreciate how hard it is the achieve this kind of open sound. It's extraordinary. She's extraordinary. I LOVE this kind of singing and it's dying.
I couldn't have imagined a better champion for this aesthetic.
She is truly a legend, and fully deserved that Grammy!
She was classically trained in opera, her mother sang with her own personal band live country and funk, her dad was the r&b junkie. Love her! ❤❤❤
Yes! Ledisi is a former opera singer turned R&B singer. As she mentioned in the vid she is from New Orleans so that's where you get the Jazz and Blues influences. I don't know if there are any videos of her singing opera online. I seen her do little pieces in interviews but not sure if there is full video. My personal favorite performance of her's is her singing "My Funny Valentine" at one of her concerts, its here on YT.
I just knew she could sing her whole face off, I didn’t know she was a classicly trained opera singer...no wonder, then.
Let's not over index the value of classical training though. I know a dozens upon dozens of opera singers. Maybe one has comparable tone and technique.
This woman is special even for someone with classical training.
UNDERRATED ARTIST!! The R&B community KNOW WHO SHE IS! It’s really hard to impress people in our community because we have church choirs full of talent. THAT QUEEN right there is CERTIFIED...PERIOD...END.OF.STORY! Y’all just coming to the party 😝 Go do your research and LISTEN 🎧
We been knew Ledisi could saaaang
This is true. We in the black community are so spoiled with talent. We have all kinds of singers that are just naturally blessed then we grow up and add a little training to it but most of the talent is from God. Most of our best musicians learned to play by ear and maybe learn to read music later but we are the Levitical from the 12 tribes.
The Skat queen love ledisi!!! She's one of the baddest in the business
She's unbelievable.
She’s so talented
She really is. I love this kind of old school singing.
I’ve been rocking with Ledisi since she was killing us here in SF on Thursday, Friday and every other Saturday with Anibade.... she deserved a Grammy waaaaay back then. The recognition is important... Thank God she did not give up and bowing down to the Greatness that is LEDISI!!
I wish I'd known her earlier. She is an absolutely remarkable singer.
@Lesage - her tones and range have only gotten better💜. I was at a show where she and Rachelle Farrell were scaring so hard and tight the bass, guitar and drummer took a walk off stage. One of the most magnificent musical moments in my Life. so sad I did not record that.
I can't wait for live music to make a triumphant return. It's nice that we can share experiences on social media, but nothing quite compares to live, does it?
That sounds like an absolutely special moment. I'm glad you experienced that.
I loooovvvve Ledisi. Been to her concerts and her book-signing. I'm a Led-head, subscribed to her channel and I've watched her Tiny Desk concert several times. I'm glad she got her Grammy but she's already bad on her own and I'm so glad u reacted to her concert. All of your focus on the details were eye-opening. Thank you
Love how he speaks of my sista like this. I so agree Ledisi voice and her singing is very lush and generous. Ledisi is amazing. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️
It is so cool to have God given talent broke down in technical terms
Please tell me why I get so caught up in your videos that I, always, watch for hours. Like, today is Thanksgiving and I've been watching you for 2 full hours - i haven't even had any sweet potato pie, yet! Oh, and, get this - I DON'T SING 😂 You're just so knowledgeable. You make it make sense. Plus, you're always amazed by the same sounds and techniques that I, myself, am. You pause at the same spots that I would 😍
My husband and I saw Ledisi perform at the International Jazz Festival in Pittsburgh last month. Some performers don’t sound as good in person, not so with Ledisi. She sound awesome in person. Listening to her voice was truly an experience I will never forget.
I wanted my girls CXH to win but I was so happy Ledisi (Led dee cee) won. She has been nominated do many times and this is her first win. I was excited for her. She deserves.
Yeah. I always get happy when someone whose paid their dues for this long gets recognition.
Especially when they are this good. Thank you for the pronunciation correction. It's hard to fix when folks correct you in writing, but this is format is helpful.
Thank you so much for reacting to this vocal beast! She has been criminally underrated for far too long! She deserved that Grammy years ago but instead they rather praise Beyoncé who is extremely overrated if you ask me. She ain’t sangin like this!
Oh yeah getting to singer singers lol. Ledisi is a professional
SO glad you reacted to her! I believe Ledisi was a former opera singer ☺️
Edit after finishing the reaction video (hehe): i think you would LOVEEEEE listening to Lalah Hathaway considering your excitement about scatting and jazz type vocals. She’s amazing. If you could, I’d love to see you react to her singing “Something” with Snarky Puppy
THAT SONG IS PHENOMENAL!! 💖😎🔥🎶
Stumbled across your channel, and what a pleasant discovery. I subscribed after watching your reaction to Tamela Mann. I sooo appreciate your professionalism, your knowledge, raw and honest reactions, critiques, and your appreciation and acknowledgment of these artist. You are one of a kind. Keep it coming...I'm a fan
Me too. Then the second video of his I saw was the Tribute to Aretha. Fan!!
Louie Armstrong 🧚🏾♀️
THANK YOU! this was driving me INSANE
I love Ledisi!
I loved watching you react to her. It reminds me of when I originally discovered her.... on MySpace (yes, MySpace). She was an artist on an Earth, Wind & Fire tribute album and her rendition of 'Devotion' was mind-blowing.
Just something I noticed about your vids is you highlight the artist by making yourself small I admire that
Love me some Ledisi and I love your analysis of her
Ledisi is such a gifted entertainer. Love her.
She's so freaking pretty and amazingly talented
ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS IN THE WORLD.... FOR YEARS NOW.
She pronounces it: Lead-duh-see/ Ledisi 😉
I love her. .. such feel good music. You have to see her live!!!!!!!!!🤗
If you love her, your mind would be completely blown from Rochelle Farrell.🤷🏾♀️
Ain’t that right!
Facts
Rachelle Ferrell gave Ledisi her big break. Rachelle started singing background for Phyllis Hyman while she was still in high school.
@@avionterria7855 😘 None of your business about my age 😁Phyllis Hyman (R.I.P) was my Queen back in the day, Rachelle Farrell is from another planet and I appreciate you sharing the connection between between these phenomenal women. I’m trapped on this channel for the last few days. 😁
You should also check out Gregory Porter, he is an amazing male vocalist.
This is my girl!!!! I hope people really start listening to her..she is awesome....she's deserve soooo much more than what the music industry has in-store for her...I think she's been deemed the new Rachelle Ferrell by Rachelle herself. Congrats on your Grammy😍😍😍😍😍
Love Ledisi! One of my favorites.
I’ve seen her live several times, she never disappoints!
This is brilliant! She’s absolutely amazing . A legend, unsung!
I just subscribed. This really made me appreciate Ledisi and see how special she is.
Has anyone recommended Lianne la Havas to you? Her Colors performance of Bittersweet is a fave and she has a few tiny desk performances too
Loves the review. I have been a Ledisi fan for years.
Ledisi is classically trained as an Opera singer which is why her voice is so amazing. Glad you did this Tiny Desk
I trained as an opera singer as well. She's doing a lot of things that wouldn't have been trained, like belting. She's so flexible, musical, and charismatic. She is one of my icons; even if I cannot pronounce her name for the life of me >.
@@LesageSinging lead - ih- see
Give it up for the background singer
Loved this! Made me subscribe! I thought you were going to try and jump through the screen down her throat towards the end 😂😂😂 been listening to her on and off for almost 15 years! Can’t wait until she tours again
She's probably my favorite singer I've covered. It's not that she's necessarily a "better" artist (that kinda thing is silly imho). I just love the sound of her voice and her entire vibe.
@@LesageSinging and her actual songs are good. Whether you like rnb/soul or not you can find something to bop too!
💯 she brings this super old school sound into the modern day. I wish folks could get the experience of hearing this kind of singing live without a microphone. It's soooo cool. Also, even for someone singing in this old school way, her voice sounds exceptionally pretty and invigorating at the same time. I love everything about her sound and delivery.
swoooon haha
@@LesageSinging I feel bad because I want to recommend other artists to listen to…but it’s like after this everything else might seem mid? 😂😂😂 oh and I’m not even a singer and I’m jealous of her instrument!
Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong
Ledisi teaches at Berklee now. She’s the real deal
She use to sing opera. I think her parents were blues and jazz singers. I would love to see her do some opera
I've appreciated Ledisi's instrument for so long. Thanks for critiquing this :-).
Love your reaction
You need to check out one of her mentors and the person that gave her a break. Rachelle Ferrell.
I was looking for this comment. You know!
Hi and I just had an opportunity to check out this Video of my FAVORITE ARTIST and there’s only 1 way to Describe her Is MAGICAL 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 check out her Rendition of Everlasting love by Chaka Khan I WAS MESMERIZED 💐 she says her parents raised her all around music all her life so she is the TRUTH SHE WAS Taught by her parents👍🏾
If you can find it you gotta hear her contribution to a rendition of "4 women" by Nina Simone.
You had me cracking up. You know what I need to practice too🤣🤣
Indescribable 🔥🔥🔥watched this 10x...❤️
You should watch more of her performances 🥰👌🏾
Hi, I am so glad you reacted to Ledisi, one of the absolutely best vocalist alive ! Can you also check out her tribute to Nina Simone ? The link is here : Ledisi - I Wish I Knew How It Feels To Be Free (The Royal Albert Hall 2019).
She's from my hometown! She's fantastic. Heavy Jazz and Gospel influences.
Oakland.Ca Own Ledisi She's Been In My Life From Day One & Congratulations On Her Grammy Award Were All So Proud Of Led 🎵😀❤🎶
"Okay, I'm gonna go practice, cause damn" 🤣
Absolutely love Ledisi but Come On background singer🤗
Definitely underrated ❤
She is brilliant. She's also so comfortable moving. I need to do more with that.
Louie Armstrong another native.
Chrisette Michelle has a similar style to Ledisi.
'Love is you' by Chrisette
'Couple of Forevers' and 'Epiphany'
Louie Armstrong!
Face hole 🤣❤️ I love her 😍
So funny when he simply says “Damn”. 😉
Ledisi (let-us-see).
Her ,and Sarah, is ridiculous together, they are so in sink. Sarah can sing also , Led is so "awesome "what can you say Ledis is off the chain great.
Do Jill Scott next!
she's great!
react to the aretha franklin tribute at 'black girls rock' with her and jazmine sullivan (:
Yes I will IMMEDIATELY WATCH THAT
Can you please react out to Jill Scott Live!
Yes
10000x yes
I have been a fan of LED-I-SI for many, many years. In my opinion she is the greatest singer of her generation. I must admit that I have never heard of the voice teacher who analyzed the NPR concert, but I appreciated his analysis. My only problem is that he kept referring to her as "this woman". Rule number one for any assignment like this is to know who, or what, it is you are suppose to analyze. As to people being upset over her Grammy win I would remind you all of what happened in 2010 when Esperanza Spalding beat Bieber for Best New Artist. It was not pretty.
I've been spending more time in voice chat with folks who watch my channel to correct my mispronounciation of the singers I cover. I agree it wasn't respectful.
I also agree Ledisi is an absolute phenom. A total pleasure to listen.
I love this. It’s pronounced (LETTUCE -C)
She's a living Phyllis Hyman
Ya know she used to sing backup for Michelle Farrell. And she kinda pushed her out to become her own artists. But she definitely learned alot from the Master. They remain close.
(Lead ah See) hope that helps with pronouncing her name
Please react to Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak at the Grammys!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please react to Chrisette Michelle
Syncopation!
Her name is pronounced leh-duh-see
I played her CD on a road trip and my friend's brother who was about 60yo at the time started checking out the CD cover and pronounced her name the same way Lesage Singing did...lol. I had to correct him.
@@AJ-gd1ww 🤣That’s funny.
@@blkicestorm6981 I was like, put some respe(ck) on her name...lol
She seems inspired by Rachelle Ferrell
Rachelle Ferrell brought her out. They are friends. I believe she sang background for Rachelle Ferrell.
that box is a Cajon..pronounced Kah-Hone
Thank you. Its been a while since I or anyone I worked with used one. Last time I did a set with one was in 2009.
@@LesageSinging just found your channel today!! you are awesome definitely keep going. You have a new subscriber just based on this video. I will check out your others as well.
@@iamleven4008 thank you Leven! 😃
Pronounced, Le• Da•C
Le as in a schwa or le as in the "eh" sound?
@@LesageSinging eh, like a lead ✏️, lead-ah-c
Oh yeah- pronounced, "LÉD-is-see"...😁
Yeah, I got that now. Not gonna make excuses. She is amazing.
@@LesageSinging I know where your heart is! I'm glad you love her the way most of us do!! Not sure if you've already reacted to it, but the vid where she and Rachelle Ferrell jammed together! Or Rachelle Ferrell, "With Open Arms", at the Apollo theater. ENJOY!💖
Finally! Wish Jazmine won something than Beyoncé and dem
pause, ima let u finish, but people were mad that ledisi won the grammy???? and who are those people???
Yeah, they were upset because their favorite artist didn't win. I think though, when you listen to Ledici and find out she was nominated so many times, it's obvious that she deserves it. I'm very happy for her and even more happy to listen to her.
@@LesageSinging i agree 100%. that’s so messed up, she’s an r&b legend who’s been trying to make it for years, who has suffered so much due to racism and colorism in the music industry. she’s been in the game for around 2 decades but just won her first grammy... to take that accomplishment away from her is a new low smh
@@aaronnewman7573 tank has never won any award either believe it or not
Great breakdown for non musicians. 🙃
Ledisi...pronounced more like legacy
okay but...... wonder what she thinks of me.
(yes, im still bitter)
Chloe x Halle are amazing but Ledisi and other singers like her are foundational for the new girls.
