  • Hi friends, in this video I'm going to show you how I like to set up a 6-strand chevron pattern on your 16-plait overlay of your bullwhip, and continue it down all the way to the end without it changing shape. We'll also talk about 2-strand diamond plaiting on the handle, and we will take a look at the process of braiding it.

    I haven't watched it all yet, but I hope it's better than what I've been doing, which is dropping a strand from both sides at the same time.
    It works, but you can tell where I dropped.
    Oh. It looks like an advanced version of how I'm doing it.

    Over the years I too would have issues with crowding. Sometimes dropping early to avoid this. I belive it has to do with different colors. Some are off just a bit. And it adds up.
    Nowadays the drop points are more of a reference. Glad we evolve. ✌️

    Hey Nick, I'm on my 3rd whip now from watching your tutorials. I really admire the care and effort you put into your craft-- not just whip making, but presenting your experience in such a captivating way. Thanks for helping me get into the hobby and I wish you all the best!

    Hello Nick, it was great meeting you and the other whippers at the 2024 Whip Convention. Learned lots and my whip platting has improved from the tips you shared with me. Made two whips since then and they crack easier than the one I brought to the convention. Hope you make a tutorial for an 8 ft Bull Whip this year. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Nick, I would love for you to make a video explaining all the math that is involved in the craft. for instance the number of strands of a particular width to cover a handle of a particular diameter. I love your videos. You do such a good job making it all make sense to the average guy.

    At 19:25 you say that the strand that you drop on the right does not have to be the same strand as you drop on the left, but I'm not sure I understand how that would work unless the strands were intentionally mixed up at the start. Like, if you start with 6', 4', and 2' strands at the start, the orders will be 3', 2', 1' on the left and 3', 2', 1' on the right. And so if you drop the 1' strand on one side, it seems like the only option is to drop the 1' on the other side IMMEDIATELY afterwards, or to drop the 2' or 3' early, which would lead to running out of paracord early on that side later on. Is there something I'm not understanding here or that I missed?
    *edit: Unless the idea is that the strands are all long enough that you have some wiggle room to drop things "out of order" without running into problems.*

    I've been following some of your videos for making whips and my biggest question is, how do you deal with soreness in your hands?! I might have gone overboard doing 6 whips back to back, but I just had to stop because I think I gave myself tendonitis. Is it just a matter of pacing myself, or do you have some tricks to avoid that?

    Hello nick, I have watched most of the videos and would like to ask how to make a 4FT whip? Space does not allow the use of too long whips. If possible, can you release a related video?

    • @BAlpert
      @BAlpert Před 4 měsíci +1

      One thing you can do is take the lengths from a 6' whip and scale everything down to roughly 2/3. I've had good luck using the 12 strand bullwhip lengths from Nick's 2020 bullwhip video to get pretty reliable 4' bullwhips.
