It should also be noted that the video undersold Black King Bar and Blink Dagger quite a bit. It's kind of a thing League doesn't really have: Items whose existence demand or allow the existence of other items and spells.
BKB isn't just a continuous cleanse, it is also a source of magical immunity, which denies half of these items on top of numerous abilities from targeting or damaging you at all. In fact, the existence of the stun-on-attack Abyssal Blade and targetted-Polymorph pretty much is only justified because hard as fuck defensive options like BKB exists too, because the game sometimes needs an hard-NOPE FUCK-YOU stun to that kind of effect. BKB is such a pressure to the game, that we've seen removing "piercing ALLIED magic immunity" be components of the balance - you also have to juggle being immune to your own team's saves. The biggest drop on that line of thought is a semi-hard exception on having both the physical immunity (ethereal effect from ghost scepter/ethereal blade) and magic immunity applied to you at the same time, since that would make you basically invulnerable for a bit.... But we just got a hero designed specifically around abusing it, Muerta (who ironically can be hard countered by similar interactions), so I don't think any preconceived notions of what's allowed or not end up meaning much.
On a similar line of thought to all of this, the reason why passive evasion on items is allowed there but went to retirement in League is also because there's 3 methods of ignoring evasion (Any Javelin Upgrade's passive accuracy, Bloodthorne+Revenant's Brooch active accuracy, and then a bunch of spread out number of guaranteed hits on items and abilities). Funnily enough, not one single of those accuracy effect is bought primarily for the accuracy aspect other than Monkey King Bar. So yeah, the summary of it is, evasion can be bought because accuracy exists all over the place, even if we only have one single de-facto counter.

Somethin I really like about dota items is that the game really lets you know that an item was used or a passive effect happened. When someone uses shivas you know why you're getting slowed. When you see someone use BKB they get bigger and as a support you know you wanna run away. If you get crit with deadalus you fucking know you just got crit because a big red number and a cheetah just roared in your ear.. Something that i struggle with in league is that every item feels like they are all just marginal improvements on the character like when you escape with 10 hp in dota and think "good thing i bought two ironwood branches instead of 1 in league every item feel like that to me.

In league you get in a fight there's 20 passives that activate at the same time you don't know what happens unless you look at the enemy build and death log after. There's some audiovisual feedback for runes but not all of them. Some shields have clear effects while other don't. Some effects like grievous wounds have a visual feedback that you can see but in the middle of a big fight it doesn't easily catch your attention and you can't always tell where it came from unless you check items and everything. It really makes the gameplay feel less impactful. you just go in and what happens happens. There's so many times I got slowed and the game doesn't explain why. You'd have to investigate between the runes, items and heroes many passives somewhere there's a conditional slow that fucked you and you had no way of understanding that during the fight. The fact that it never happens in dota shows just how well it's designed.

Some items in league do it ok, Luden's pop is decently loud but not necessarily what you're gonna notice when Annie dropped a thousand-pound bear on you for a stun.
Heartsteel I do think is decent at it, the sound effect it makes and it's criteria being an auto attack to proc makes it mostly obvious.
But then you have things like Liandry's, Jak'sho, and the like where it barely feels like anything is happening on both sides of the situation.

Support in league build the same exact items in the same exact order 99% of games while in dota you have to think and see what your team needs. That makes playing support very rewarding. There's a game where I built atos on dazzle because they had a sniper and we didn't have any lockdown and the moment I used it the enemy team started being more scared and it gave us enough space to catch up and win the game. Things like that never happen in lol and that's why I respect dota more as a strategy game while lol feels more like multiplayer diablo.

Man this really just highlights the difference between dota 2 and league at its core, from items to heroes to gameplay. One item in league seems complex cuz it has a billion fluff words to make it flashy and “cool” and it just increases your aoe dps (surprise, lol). One item in dota simply floats your target in the air for a second or two, but it has a huge and wide range of how you use that in game that can change the entire course of a team fight. Save an ally, purge a debuff, hold an enemy in the air to catch up to them, hold an enemy in the air to get them out of the way to deal with their friends. Can’t do all 4 at same time cuz cooldown, so you gotta think ahead and assess every situation to make the most impact with it. All from a very simple concept, but this is dota so it has very wide ranging implications and uses. League replaces strategic open endedness and game impact with flashiness in almost every situation. Look at the most complex league heroes, they’re made hard because you have 80 buttons to press. In dota, even simple heroes/items have wide ranging strategic implications to it cuz the game is so deep past just button pressing. And also dota has button press hero too. Like Meepo, he doesn’t just require good micro, he requires good macro Ontop of that because his unique strengths and weaknesses have serious implications to how you tackle every single matchup and teammate. Oh, and don’t forget about item timings

A single item like Euls Scepter can be finely tuned for balance in dota and constantly is, despite being very simple. They just occasionally change the price or disable time to fit the meta so that it’s balanced. League weapons are over tuned in that case, in a way that gets in the way of game balance not aid it because they’re so absurdly overly convoluted and therefore convoluted to adjust for the meta and balance.

I kinda' got lazy playing League once the new Fiddle came out (didn't like that they removed his movement speed passive). So I thought to play a support champion instead, as you see playing a Mage/Caster in League is as really simple as building AP from start to finish. Moreover, he's already Sand King with a Blink for me so the intuition and instinct I have from playing DoTA doesn't change much. The problem with the support role however, is remembering the items part. Great video. Had a thought while watching that League's Arena mode has some unique mechanics that are missing from the regular games, like refreshing ultimates, polymorph, invisibillity. Certain augments change what a champion can normally do in a way items don't.

Personally I think since league is a much simpler game there's a lot more focus on raw mechanical skill while dota being a much more complex game is not so focused on that and it's more about strategy. It could also explain the age differences of league pros vs dota, you are lucky to be a league player above the age of 21-22 since there's always a new 17 yo mechanical prodigy somewhere ready to take your spot but that's considered young in Dota

The idea of building stuff purely for the Effects or hell, just getting a pure durability item on an otherwise glass cannon does seem far off at times in league, it might provide survivability and movement speed, but if you were going to build a dead man’s plate on an ADC then you’d get yelled at, in that role you need to (or at least are pressured to) hyperfocus on damage as much as possible even If that really isn’t the issue you’re facing at that point.
It’s not impossible though, I mostly play Tanks, bulky Mages or bruisers and I feel there is more room there to look into other areas around there, a lot of mage and fighter items give HP already, if I wanted to get Warmogs for Hp regen or Spirit visage for synergy, well, I’m not sacrificing nearly as much as I would if I was getting that stat anyway.
Still hindered by the AP/AD split granted, no amount of Crowd control immunity will get your team off your back if they see you with a silvermere dawn or something as a mage.
It might have been mentioned in another video, but in exchange for not having quite as many active items, league does have Summoner Spells, I think flash specifically was placed to make up for a lack of blink dagger.
As a final note, I do wish League had more things comparable to Aganim’s sceptre or HOTS talents, there really is something appealing to changing how an ability inherently works.

I dont blame LoL's boring itemization on the items, i blame it on the champions and on how some stats are just borked from the beginning. @absolutelynotadog7498 Před 8 měsíci +1

Yes, dota's towers have no plating and such, that doesn't mean they have any less strategical importance. One of the main reasons you kill towers is to open up the map for your team, allowing access to not just the lane but also the nearby jungles. Controlling more of the map means your team means more space for your team to farm and less for your opponents. And that's really simplifying it.
Rosh definitely has more things going for it than drakes/baron. On one hand you kill baron and get a buff for your team, cool. But only one hero gets the aegis. Same goes for cheese and aghs/refresher shard. Who should get which? Yeah the carry usually get the aegis, but sometimes it's better to give it to the mid who just used buyback instead. What about refresher shard? Give it to the offlaner for 2 ravages, or to the carry/mid/etc for 2 bkb/shadow dance/etc?
That's the dota design. Everything here can be succinctly described within a single sentence. You may think that makes the objectives are obvious and straightforward, but that's just because how you're supposed to use them aren't told directly to you. Decision making especiallly at the macro level depends heavily on the context of each match.

That HP will improve some of lol champion damage to make them became unkillable oneshot machine if the game take long enough ( which never happen unless it a special mode)

    • @KitsuneFaroe
      @KitsuneFaroe Před 8 měsíci

@@TZAR_POTATO I know it sounds bizarre but the worst part is that it works hahah. Phoenix doesn't really have proper scalling items, and since he is Universal he does really benefict from the atributes and the spell lifesteal. It also weirdly synergizes with his high mobility, dps and strong ability to bait.
It only really works properly on mid tough (Phoenix is a surprisingly good mid), since that way he can scale better being able to properly obliterate anyone in seconds from early-to-mid Game, in the end you get the cost back.
Is something you don't really think can be pulled out but it works if you know how to do it. Is a strat my brother tought out of nowhere, he is the best Phoenix player I have ever seen.

dota has a lot of really good noob freindly features that really help you get used to the game. You can select any hero during a match and you can see and read all their items and abilities. guided builds can be selected and tell you what items to buy in what order as well as skill order and have tooltips that explain what the items do in a eli5 way as well as explain the item synergies with your hero. Finally dota has the coaching system. if you know someone who plays dota you can let them spectate you ping things, ping items to buy, and even draw on your screen or map.
