I’m super stoked to be releasing this video guys! Another collaboration under the belt and I gotta tell you working with other creators to bring you awesome hair content like this is quickly becoming one of my favourite things to do!
If you guys have any other creators in mind that you’d like to see me link up with, make sure you leave a comment letting me know and we’ll see what happens!
So today’s video has been brought to you because I’ve noticed an increasing number of comments and posts coming through to the Man Buns & Manes Facebook group lately particularly from guys with thick, curly & coarse hair thinking that their hair is unmanageable and beyond help.
Which just isn’t true…
Anyway, back to what I was saying, the truth is, there’s a solution to your unruly hair problems, it’s all just got to do practice and experimentation and I honestly couldn’t have thought of a better person other than Jesse to help me convey this message.
During this video, both Jesse & I will both give you our 2 cents when it comes to the importance of product and how you can get started with choosing the right ones for you.
Then after that we’ll show you some of our best routines and products that we use to master our natural coarse, unruly hair.
Chapters of this video:
00:00 - Your Hair Doesn’t Suck
00:52 - Thomas’ View on Using Hair Product
05:03 - Jesse’s View on Using Hair Product
08:02 - Thomas’ Thick, Curly Hair Routine

If you have any questions regarding either of our routines, make sure you leave a comment and use the @ function to notify us so we can respond as quickly as possible.
Thanks again for coming here to watch our video today and don’t forget to subscribe for more awesome hair content and I’ll see you soon for my next video!
Yours in good hair,
Thomas In Action - Jak na to + styl
Let’s go Thomas! You’re a damn HERO in the men’s hair community.
Mannnn your version was minimal af... Disappointed cos you explain things really well
Every once in a while I end up here, in the CZcams's rabbit hole of curly hair styling. Now that I'm trying for the first time to let my hair grow freely, this video was very informative.
Man Thomas, been following ya since like 2018, and you really work so hard behind everything related to men's hair. You deserve way more subscribers by now.
this video saved my life i have the same hair as you i was looking on you tube desperately to find a hair routine that worked but none of them had my hair type thank you for this
I think this video saved my hair. I've just watched it, haven't tried anything yet but this morning I was thinking pretty hard about cutting my hair because I thought it was hopeless.
This video never gets old! Still hugely helpful! Love ya man!!!
This was another fantastic colab with Jessie! Definitely worth watching... Super fun, informative, and enjoyable.
I learned a ton today!
1) I’m not using enough product! Not even close! Thanx Thom for showing it to us!
2) I don’t visit the glory hole enough!
Being a cheap ass old man , and doing the zombie shuffle at the drugstore is done for me, starting today! I promise to go find some good stuff! Thx Jessie!
3) Have belief and faith in my own hair, and that it can, and will look good if I try.
4) I’m NOT alone.
I certainly look forward to seeing another great vid like this in the future!
Be well guys! 😻
Hahah! You’re the best Brian! Thanks for showing up and coming to watch!
Big live to you! ❤️
Thank you SO much for explaining this, I’ve lived 28 years not understanding my own hair 😂
Dude I’m growing my hair out and I’ve been trying to power through this long awkward phase and your videos have helped me continue pushing forward! I just want it to be long already!! 😂
how it’s going?

Sooo helpful! My wiry, thick, coarse wavy hair was clearly not getting enough styling product (or moisturizing cream) and that's why it was so frizzy/puffy. thanks!
You’re the BEST!! This video saved my relationship with my teen son 🤣 I imagine you already know what I mean… he is TOTALLY EMPOWERED now. Cheers!!
Thomas & Jesse, I love love love this video!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ It's going to help so many people!!! Outstanding! Very well done!!
Cheers Scotty! Glad you loved it. 😉 As we’ve discussed a lot, products are the key! Bring in that mousse overload 😂
Wow i haven’t been able to find a video with such great info specific to my hair type. My hair super to the second guy in the video. Thank you for this!
Nice vid. Worth mentioning that using hairdryer on top of holding cream is only a viable option to guys that aren’t balding or thinning as this procedure can REALLY boost balding and shedding. And yes even if you apply hair oils afterwards.
Yes, this is the collab we needed
😉 you got it!
My hair is LEGIT the samee. Finally I found a video PERFECT for me! Awesome vid❤️
Woooohooo good luck with everything and am glad to help! ❤️
You guys just saved my life thank you so much!
Thats crazy i found that same conclusion with my hair. And thank you for letting us know of your solutions!
Thanks for sharing Vince! It’s like a tricky game huh?!?
As soon as you started talking about the cuticle, moisture, product issue this definitely clicked. Seeing your hair without any treatment is exactly how mine ends up looking. Appreciate the breakdown. I've been using a leave in conditioner which has helped immensely, but towards the end of the day it starts to frizz out regardless. Time to do my own research and experimentation with products that will moisturise and seal my cuticles.
Hey man, i had the same issue. I’ve been using products by and for black women lmao. Hair milk by Carols daughter is very cheap and lasts all day for me
I know I’m quite late, but using a hairspray locks in moisture really well for me, maybe you could try it
A collaboration well needed 🔥🔥🔥
Cheers Jody 😊
I am ready to chop my hair!!!! This gave me enough inspiration to push on and try dif prods and educate myself mo
THANK YOU for the blow out tips. That's the look i've been trying to achieve but never new how to get there. Will be trying that out soon!
My pleasure! glad I could help
that smooth blow omg ✨
Stoked you loved it :)
Porosity awareness is key 🗝️ great wisdom in this one! 🙏🏼
Cheers Ed ❤️
This is great! What did Jessie use for the high quality curl cream? Bays?
You guys are looking smooth af!
Cheers Matt 🥂 ❤️
I basically have the exact same hair texture you have! Feels good not to be the only one and to learn from one another 🙌
Woohoo! Hope this video helped Simon! Thanks for showing up today! ❤️
Me too! But I have a sort of mullet undercut and the back of my hair is way looser if a curl than the front and it ends up squished 😭 I’m planning to grow it out but it’s SUCH a pain
HELPFUL TO THE MAX
Lots of useful info. Thanks!
Thank god I found this video lol, life saver mate.
Best video for this hair type man! Thanks! Subd straight away :D
This tutorial is crazy!!! I always thought my hair was unsalvageable
Yall have the same hair as me lmao. Glad to come across this, where can I find YOUR personal products you use?
Your hair is growing well Thomas. Nice mate. Keep up the good stuff. 👌
Thanks Mark! Grateful for your presence here! 🙏🏽
I've stumbled into knowledge of most of these tactics. I've only missed, breaking the shell w oil!!!
I’m so happy we literally have nearly the same hair
This is probably the first video which directly addresses the issue. Maybe we are cousins because our hair are identical, facing the same issue, lol.
In order to help your hairstyle last like that; what do you do regarding sleeping? Anything specifically you lay on? Do you wrap your hair? Thanks
I have that same hair type, when I'm in home it looks good, but as soon as I leave, the weater makes it very ugly and frizzy, it really bothers me
I have the same type of hair as you , and have tried the same routine, but my hair still poofs and gets really dry. I’m not sure what to do to keep my hair down and shine looking.
super informative video thank you
I needed this
Thanks for this video, I learned a lot !
Yay! I’m glad you found it hepful
I can't be the only one who thought it was Jacksepticeye at first glance lol
Yes, you are not the only one. Me too
Same
yeah i see that
i thought benny blanco
You weren’t 😂
I used to have hair that was dry af and curly and I literally just started using only shampoo, then dampen hair and use coconut oil on 40% dry hair (5 to 6 drops for 2 to 3 inches of hair) and combing them back, then tying a towel over it for an hour and viola, frizz free hair for a whole day, just keep running fingers to the back for curl definition. Works for two days easy, but I wash hair everyday, with shampoo on alternate days and only water on other days, then combing it back without using any oil and tying the towel. Works like a charm, hair never been healthier, Alhamdulillah.
Doesn’t mousse dry out your hair? Do you recommend the mousse over gel?
im 4 years into growing out my incredibly thick, coarse 3b ringlets. (sorry thomas but u have 2c/3a at most cos my ringets are the width of a sharpie and aint NO WAY im type 4/kinky/afro w my white ass)
lets just say the awkward phase was more of a car crash phase, but wet styling with heavy curl creams and leave in moisture made even my shorter phases look eviable.
now im at a point where every day im amazed by what my hair can do (all this to say, i use Kerastase's expensive ass curl line so no shit it looks good) but even with whatever i could find, it's really all about the way you treat curls and waves out of the shower, rather than the wash itself.
always a leave in conditioner,
always a mousse/curl cream/gel/oil butter
sometimes a serum/oil
and you're set for bouncy and shiny defined curls.
my own hair and love for styling it has lead me to becoming a hairdresser
I am considering following your first method, apply hair moisturiser, mouse and crunch. Do u wash your hair daily if you follow this method?
Do you just help with men’s hair? All of this info is very helpful.
So I've only ever used this really really bad for your hair shampoo VO5 (you can tell how cheap it's made) and my hair, after a long while only really starts to curl as it gets closer to the bottom, my hair is long thick coarse is there a way to revive my hair so I can get my hair to be full on the top whilst keeping it fairly long still or do I have to cut it and start again? I've been trying to figure out how to fix this for a few years
If anybody is struggling with coarse curly hair, I recommend looking into Japanese Hair Straightening. It's a lot like the keratin one you got a couple years back except it's permanent. I tried embracing my curls in the beginning, but no matter what, it just wasn't for me and I was never happy with it. I get the hair straightening treatment done once a year at the beginning of summer, and it stays good for about 9 months before the roots start growing too visibly different. Then I heat straighten the roots for the remaining 3 months or so, and it's basically minimal work, for perfectly manageable hair all year. :)
It may ruin your hair. So just be careful!
@@thomasinaction Are you referring to that one blog post that tends to show up whenever you google it? 😂 I agree, people should be aware of what could go wrong. Please don't go to some shady back-alley salon because you heard they could do it for cheap. Find a good hairstylist, and ruining your hair won't happen. (esp one who obviously remembers to put all the treatments, including the neutralizing agent at the end.)
The hairstylist I went with not only had great yelp reviews and had been doing it for years. But he also ran an instagram page with before and after pictures of different customers, which showed a variety of hair types. You should find one like that so you can be confident in their skills.
So, I work in automotive, a naturally dusty environment. I wash my hair roughly every 3 days, but what can I use to keep my hair from looking like a frizzy mess?
Any suggestions are appreciated. My hair is roughly shoulder-length and super curly.
Wonderful!
With the first style was the mousse the thing to lock in the moisture?
How do you refresh the style in the morning?
Great stuff 👍
Which is better The Curl Whip Mousse by Cake Beauty or Shea Butter curler enhancer
This collab was awesome 👏🏼
Thanks so much Brandon! I appreciate you showing up to watch! ❤️
Thanks so much Brandon! I appreciate you showing up to watch! ❤️
which product make your hair shiny ? the oil?
Any idea how to make this type of hair smooth and straight? I have wavy hair and can do full bun.
so do I get my hair wet during those 3 days? or do i just leave it alone?
I used the shampoo from Goldwell in this video, but my scalp did not like it after some months. It was to strong and for the first time in life my scalp was irritated.
Today I use Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo instead. It’s more natural and my hair and scalp love it!
Everyone’s hair is different???
After applying to oil is my hair supposed to go back to being dry and knotted and the cast still there kinda?
For curls… when I wash my hair do I have to use cold water?
Jesses morning hair is literally my hair
my two fav hair ytubers made a colab damn
Thanks for this video, I have long curly hair too. I always struggle with my fringe in my face. How do you manage this? Thanks
There’s this cool Bobby pin trick that Scott Smith from the Man Buns and Manes Facebook group shared not long ago.
Are you in the group? You should hit him up!
I am endowed with 2a/2b wavy hair. I have been doing my best to adapt/adopt Curly Girl/Guy Method. It has been wonderful. My hair is healthier/shinier/bouncier now. Although finding Curl-friendly products is rather difficult here in Indonesia, I persist to continue the battle!!!!
Same pattern here. Keep kt going bro.
Bang, kalo boleh tanya lu pake produk apa, bang? Karena emang sesuai omongan elu, produk curl-friendly di Indonesia itu langka hingga hampir gak ada. Adanya cuma produk2 impor yang harganya jutaan.
@@figboi Hallo. Buat shampoo udah gapake. Conditioner (2 X sehari) pake Natur yg Aloe Vera + Olive. Trus leave in conditioner (pagi aja) juga sama, pake Natur Aloe Vera + Olive. Hair gel pake Johny Andrean. Conditioner 30 rebuan. Hair gel juga 30 rebuan. Alhamdulillah aman.
@@mohammadangginugrohomcjogja kalo gk pake sampoo gatal2 gak, bang? Atau mungkin ada efek lain yang rasanya aneh waktu gak sampo an sama sekali? Terus untuk produknya sendiri ingredientnya ada sulfate, paraben dan alkohol nggak?
@@figboi Hello. Aku pake scalp massager buat pijat kepala pas pake conditioner (pagi & sore). Alhamdulillah, aman aja. Conditioner Natur sama Hair Gel nya Johnny Andrean enggak pake sulfat, paraben. Ada methylparaben. Ini bentuk lebih aman dari paraben murni. Alkohol juga aman.
Do you have any advice for people with seborrheic dermatitis? My doctor says I have to wash my hair every day with medicated shampoo, so my hair never even gets natural oils in it.
Great video.
Also, no one has ever thought to blow dry their hair “against the grain”
Awesome
Jesse’s hair is total goals!
I permed my hair to get it curly but everytime I apply a curling cream, my hair just goes back to straight >.< any suggestions for what I can apply to get my permed hair to pop?
The curl cream may be a bit too heavy which may be weighing the hair down.
Have you tried mousse? It’s FAR lighter and allows the hair to keep its bounce.
Okay I guess I yyoruoyouito towl
Maybe a spray leave in conditioner or a lightweight oil could help
I would do a lightweight botanical gel or mousse! Such as innersense I create volume gel/“lotion” (it’s a gel, just a very liquidy one) and for mousse I really like the ones from the doux and innersense
Finally found a video that applies to me
Anyone know a similar product to Behave oil? I live in USA and irs hard to get unless you want to spend $80. Thanks!

You are sir 😉 thanks for stopping by Trav!
Bro I need to try these. The only hairstyle I know how to roll with is a fro.
Well grab yourself some of those product dude and get testing! Thanks for swinging by the channel!
I was hoping for some advice--
You say you hate men cutting their hair because they think it’s shit, and I feel the same! That’s what I’m desperately trying to prevent. Thankfully winter has bought me a little time but it’s still a problem. My boyfriend does tattoos, and he has curly hair that isn’t quite long enough for a bun or pony. So while tattooing, it’s almost always in his face. He doesn’t want to push it back and contaminate his gloves/needle etc.
He hates the frizz, and I love the curls but sometimes being in a hurry he doesn’t let me do the things I have guessed would handle the frizz and keep him curly like I love. He has bought some of the face masks that were like, I dunno spandex maybe? That are just like, small sleeves for your face. He’s cut them in half to use as a headband. It’s a decent solution but doesn’t hold well, nor does it look…. Good. It doesn’t look very good. With people’s tendency to photograph the process of getting a tattoo, I don’t want people posting pictures where he looks goofy. So I decided to look up solutions and ended up on your video after watching jesse’s. I’ll say I like your detail and energy much better. What would you recommend?
For a long time I thought I had high pore hair but then I came with a vital information. High porosity is a hair that dries really quickly and what happens with my hair is actually the opposite. It takes for ever. So The real type is thick low pore hair. And the products you have to use are actually lighter products cause to oily thick products will saturate the hair really quickly.
How do you go about finding this stuff out?
I’m trying out the no shampoo method. Hopefully my body’s natural oils will do the rest. How people can spend all of this money on products is beyond me. I’m curious to see if hair care products are just a huge marketing scheme.
I wish that were true 😂 I have an extremely dry scalp and it never gets oily so I have no hope of not using product
I needed this information. It feels hard to have a hairstyle for curly hair while you grow it. Thanks!
There's a reason why product is so important for curly hair. Back in the day when there was no shampoo, curly hair would get a lot of buildup and have its own layer that seals in the moisture. So now with shampoo, you need something to make up for the layer that was supposed to be there for your hair, which is product. Gel or moose is all what you need, and of course a little bit of a leave-in and some hair oil.
♥️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 so good thanks
Pleasure!
What's your exact hair type
Jesse's: curl creme>reactivator
Thomas's routine: leave in conditioner>style with loads of mousse>fiddle/lay the cast (dont touch it til dry)>air dry or heat protectant then blow dry w/diffuser>break the cast w oil
Also Thomas: "I pride myself in the simplicity of my routine" XD
We have the same hair
Do you have products for thick curly hair for black men??
When do you guys brush your hair though? Some people do it while they're showering but I've also read that brushing it while it's too wet can cause more hair fall as it is more vulnerable. I personally brush it a few minutes after the shower but it disrupts the natural curl pattern :'(
Only comb it with wide tooth comb when it's wet to detangle or when you're conditioning your hair to spread the conditioner.
I literally don’t. Not at this length anyway. The most imI use is my comb and round brush when I do my blowout
I personally comb slightly damp with oil before I wash. After I wash I only use my fingers.
So here’s the BIG question - how do I get my husband to use products in his hair? 😂 I love his hair when it’s wet but when it dries it’s a HUGE frizz ball
The problem with haircare videos on YT is that nothing completely suits my hair. By that I mean I have 2c - 3C curly hair on my crown and 1A to 2B straight hair on my back and sides. I either have to:
1. Cut the sides and back short to maintain my curls and waves, or
2. Use heat on my top hair and straighten it to match it with my back and sides.
Worst of both worlds.
finally, this is the video for me 😂
Whoop whoop! Glad to help Robert!
Hey guys! Question... How do you dry your hair after the shower? Do you scrub it? Do you just pat it? Do you barely even dry it? Thanks! Love your videos!
what i do is scrunch it up, like you’re scrunching up a ball of paper with one hand
@@JakeFarley Cool, thanks!
Ive been frustrated with my hair. Looks kinda fried without product just like you guys. Im hyped to try out these products
I’m in that awkward stage but i always remember when I cut my hair off I always regret it in the end
mines straight tho and like this
Will you be getting keratin treatment as your hair gets longer or are you just gonna continue rocking your natural hair
I will no longer be getting keratin treatments! I want to really embrace my curly hair this time around!
Ok so i have that very same hair when he showed that picture of him after shower with no products.
And.. I am a GIRL🥲🥲
It would be great if you could explore how to create some of these products from scratch instead of purchasing them pre-made. The raw ingredients are incredibly affordable, allowing us to make our own hair care solutions at just a fraction of the cost-sometimes as low as 1/10th to 1/20th of the price of store-bought alternatives. This way, viewers can save money and customize their hair care routines according to their preferences.
I have very curly and dry hair and i began only using conditioner every two weeks and never shampoo. My hair went from looking like a fluffy hat/helmet to look like kit harrington’s without any product. My hair is never frizzy and very soft.
What conditioner?
Hey Thomas, where can I buy the Silhouette mousse in my country?? 😂😂
Hahahahaha omg, don’t even get me started 😂
I’m in desperate need of a detangling tutorial of 3a/2c hair
Thanks for letting me know! Will look into this!
What about super thick straighter hair?
