@LethalOwl I tried to align each time to where he said the title just prior to the song. With the anthem there was just more of a gap than the others.
He is starting a video with a cup of liber-tea. Ministry of truth will approve this

The thing about the extraction theme is, that its made even more dramatic by extraction being optional. If you complete all objectives, your mission is successful. Extract is all you, your motivation to come back home and bring your samples back.
Beautifully said, this theme makes the endgame truly special.
And further dramatic because of how much of a clusterfuck extraction can be since you get swarmed during it.
The mission is mandatory, extraction is a luxury
Well said soldier 🔥
Some of us decide to stay and fight the enemy to teach them the meaning of freedom!
fun fact about the extraction theme!
it's actually dynamic, and changes depending on the amount of enemies, difficulty, enemy types, etc. but that part at around 1:50 always plays when the extraction shuttle is arriving
Our Saviour! Pelican-1!
"This is Pelican-1, requesting all Helldivers to get within extraction radius"
If Eagle-1 is our guardian, Pelican-1 is our hero, Liberty-speed, Pelican-1!
“Pelican-1 arriving, clear landing area”
My fav part of that extraction theme was on a difficulty 9 mission where we had a really nasty extract against bots, two of my squadmates managed to land some solid EMS grenade stuns on the 3 hulks coming in towards our escape pad. I just started emptying the HMG into the weakspots, one after another, while my dude went "GET SOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" right about when 1:04:26 hit, and ever since the theme just gives me the chills remembering that situation overall.
*And make no mistake, Pelican-1 landed on me and killed me ofc :)*

O yeah he is feeling it
I still have the feeling that the soundtrack is at some level stolen from a marvel soundtrack. Don't get me wrong, i like it a lot but.. still...
@Sakrosankt-Bierstube Marvel has never made anything this good apart from the main theme variant in end game. Stealing from them is pointless because it's mediocre music
@@Sakrosankt-Bierstubestolen is very different from inspired, Helldivers has a lot of features in the game that are inspired from other pieces of media. The terminids are most likely inspiration from the tyranids in warhammer, the armor is almost identical to clone/stormtroopers in Star Wars and ODST’s from halo, hell (pun intended) the entire game is just a direct inspiration of starship troopers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the people making the music listened to Marvel’s music and wanted to make it better
@1:01:20 imagine extraction theme with 200 bugs/bots marching towards you

fun fact. the second half of the song 14:10 of A Cup of Liber-tea is actually derived partially from the first game, probably to give a sense of a costly/perpetuating conflict but like you said trying to remain hopeful.
The first, more bombastic part of A Cup of Liber-Tea plays when player drop onto planets from orbit. Always makes you feel like a badass (even though in-universe the Helldivers are fresh out of college with the bare minimum of training).
The elite of the elite of cannon fodder, for Super Earth!
The Super Earth's version of Storm Troopers. Our problem is, we always find the droids... 💀
That extraction soundtrack really makes you tense up.... especially when you've got 15 spewers and some 50 f*ck all on your ass, swarming the evac site! .... AND THE DESTROYER SHIP LEFT ORBIT! 😂😵💫
RIP 💀
I can't tell you how many solo extractions usually go down like that
The music is highly dynamic, yeah. Since there's no official mix of the in game music yet except for the main theme, the rest of the music are mixed by fans and there might be some weird mistakes that might not be the intended way it plays in game.
One of the greatest parts of Helldivers 2 is the fact it's not even out of the question that the soundtrack is being played in-universe.
It doesn't happen most of the time, but sometimes I do a flag raising, and don't hear the anthem -- and I feel that something deeply wrong has happened.
The excitement when that drop pod goes out will never go away
It always gives me new optomism even if i get my shit rocked in the previous mission.
Too right. Unparalleled hype.
58:15 this arcade game background music is the main theme from the first Helldivers game.
I thoroughly enjoyed your first impression of the main theme, Lionmight. This moment just got me to subscribe to your channel. You resonated with the music the same way I did when I first heard it myself. Thank you for this wonderful stream!
Figured I'd clarify about my super chat lol.
I meant to say reaction, but due to a few things (i.e. busyness and english being difficult) i said review which obviously didnt turn out well
Of course, if you don't plan on it, I'd be glad to support either way, for DEMOCRACY
You know what would be even greater? Strap yourself into hellpod and delivery some justice and freedom in the name of Super Earth! :)
Cammon Broder! No Time for feast - Creek is liberated but the fight go on!!!
32:00-33:02 "...modernized nationalism, that feeling of, futuristic freedom."
Lady liberty would be proud of this description
1:04:38 its exactly what it is. You have to hold the extraction area from an endless stream of bugs (or bots) for the longest 2 - 4mins of your life, with little to no ammo and no reinforcements.
They make such a hero from you in the tutorial mission man, no wonder all helldivers are pumped to get to the front. It's a masterpiece, game and score.

I love the super earth anthem. It gets me so pumped. Sometimes when we’re doing extractions in the game, I love to play in the background it makes it so dramatic. 1:12:10
You should try SIGNALIS’ OST next! It truly is incredible.
I second this!! One of my favorite video game OSTs along with The Outer Wilds.
Signalis is the most underrated horror game ngl
@@rumuelnathanael8043 so true
Extraction theme for the win!!!!!!! Looking at the peak views, I'm not the only one
I swear music is like programming for the human mind.
That lead-up at the end of the gearing up track should lead straight in to a version of “A Cup of Liber-Tea” for the drop in/loading sequence for the level. Absolutely masterful use of music in this game
Holy cow somebody finally reacting to *Super Earth Anthem*! I was beginning to think nobody would react to it!
I have a very weird feeling about this OST. in one point it feels such a generic patriotic soundscape like it would be in any marvel movies. But A) That's the point. B) Damn if that letmotiv doesn't get stuck in my head all the time and does give me some feeling of Zealous patriotism (to something actually as "wrong" as Super Earth)
Its not "Wrong"
THATS CALLED DEMOCRACY!!!
Thats very interesting, now face the wall Helldiver
Super earth is "wrong"? Here's a counter argument, traitor: ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️
Nothing bad with managed tribalism.
The Helldivers 2 Automaton Marching Cadence would be a cool reaction too.
Yes, hearing that ingame is horrorfying
I would love to see your reaction to Warhawk's soundtrack from the ps3. It goes heavy with the horns and sound of "patriotism". Please give it a listen, it is truly something else.
I miss Warhawk 😭😭😭 such a great game!!!!!
That anthem is quite possibly the best freaking song in the entire OST. Got me gushing with patriotic tears I never knew I had. Seriously, put this song in classrooms and have them rise for it. Play it at the Super Bowl while you're at it. Bam. Society is back on track lol
Play this game a LOT. My friends and I jump on it at least three times during the week. I'll spell out what "Cup of Libertea" gets in my head when I hear it.
Alright guys, report to the Hellpods. Menkent is under attack by the bots and we need to hold the line. There's hype, a sense of invincible purpose. We're the *good guys*, the heroes! We're going to go down to the planet and we're going to destroy the enemies of democracy, accomplish our mission, and extract back to the Super Destroyer for a little bit of down time, all in the name of Truth and Liberty. Then we drop and the Hype gets even more intense. We can hear as we descend the sounds of the air burning around the pod. Dull but still there are the sounds of orbital strikes raining down. We're planning what we'll do when we hit dirt. We'll start on one side of the sector and just sweep around, wiping out everything in our path.
Then we hit the ground, pop up from our pods and things start to go a bit haywire. The spot we picked that we thought was free of enemies had a patrol there, which summoned in reinforcements.
That plan of ours is out the window as we start off the mission with a twenty minute long running firefight interspersed with a few precious seconds where we can catch our breath, reload, and move to our objectives before we either destroy the objectives or get into another fight with a roaming bot patrol. Somehow, some way, through grit, determination, and a LOT of explosions and fired rounds, we won. We didn't do the clean sweep we hoped for, but the primaries were destroyed and we got some of the secondaries and outposts.
Then things calm down. Pelican One is taking us back up into orbit. We made it out, but 18 Helldivers didn't. Get back to the ship and find out our brothers and sisters didn't die alone. For every one of ours that died, we took out forty of theirs. Another Super Destroyer explodes in the distance, plainly visible from the view port near the holomap as we go to check on the situation on the planet. The bots are still pushing hard and the Menkent Line must hold, otherwise they'll push on Earth herself.
Back into the battle, brothers and sisters.
Beautiful commentary, and I love your analysis of the overarching messages and tones in the score
I just realized "A Cup of Liber-tea" was in 5/4. Baller.
big respect for sticking to your guns and reacting to the music first and foremost instead of mindlessly farming, ive watched a reaction of a filmmaker for the trailer, which was interesting, and came here specifically for the soundtrack. also mad respect for being neutral in terms of the art, giving out grades is not what art is about
The beauty of the Anthem of Super-Earth _( if you do put aside the very grim and dreadfull implication of the lyrics )_ inspire to me the sight a tidlewave, breaking over a mountain, until it crumble under its assaults... Or better yet : a rising Might, reaching far beyond the skies ! As Humanity unified as one, moves : always forward, never stoping ; always to higher grounds, colonialising and building for a better tomorrow. Yet you can feel the mourning of those who gave their lives, and are never to be forgotten, to achieve the dream of humanity : its glorious expension, so that Mankind, Freedom and Democracy may perserve, thus, for eons to come.
furthermore, it was proven through tests that hearing the Anthem of our Beloved Homeworld improved survival and battle efficiency of regular armies, as well as Helldivers by a fantastic 40% !
An information approved by the Ministary of Truth.
No wonder helldivers and citizens are so proud and fanatical about Super Earth and democracy if this is what they've been listening to. The Helldivers theme and the Super Earth Anthem would stir up a fire in anyone.
Part 2 please.
He was absolutely right about the extraction music sounding like a "Last Stand" form of music style which it is EXACTLY THAT.
When you're now suddenly faced against multiple groups of a Rocket variant Hulks leading a patrol of other rocket devastators and 2 Factory Striders all encroaching onto your extraction zone while you're there putting to use every support strategem you've called in before your Destroyer ships has left orbit.
Fighting against LITERAL BULLET and ROCKET HELL for your life just to make a run to the extraction zone once you hear in your comms "Pelican-one approaching landing zone, steer clear".
And once you do extract, the ending music just feels like the good ending to a very long and intense movie... This is TRULY the game of A L L T I M E 1:05:38
You give off this air of genuineness that makes your content feel very substantial and grounded. I can’t explain it very well but it’s something many other creators lack and I appreciate that your content has this important quality. Thank you for creating this video and many others ^^
1:03:28 I love how Lion is just mesmerized by that section of the OST. Truly beautiful
extraction theme is my favorite. the mission is coming to a close and the enemy is throwing everything they’ve got at you as you fight for your life and the right to extract off planet. it’s amazing. makes you feel like a badass as you pull it off
I love that you mentioned that the Helldivers map music might be a Mass Effect map music reference. I thoguht so too immediately when I first played the game and did my first mission
I also enjoy how you're able to pick up themes of these games from the ost without playing them. I've noticed it before. In this vid you noticed the idea of "organic themes meets technology" which is definitely a massive narrative theme.
ı love liber-tea
Bro what happen to your "i" did the bots gets to it lol
@@TheHotDogGuy. God damn Socialist Automatons stole my dot.
The quiet parts in the middle and the end always remind me of things like Blade Runner or Cyberpunk, like in between the bombastic parts that have that feel of jingoistic sci-fi heroism, we get a taste of the downtime, like in between the missions where you're looking out from the windows of your ship and seeing the planet below you, or you're back home and seeing the neon-lit city from the ground level, and it kinda gives me a feeling of being able to be in the actual dystopia that you fight for. Folks rightfully love the first part that plays every time you drop from the ship to start a mission, but the latter 2/3 of A Cup of Liber-tea seem woefully underappreciated.
I really appreciate rhat you are sticking to analysis of music and making content that you feel is valuable
I LOVE THE SOUND OF LIBERTY AND DEMOCRACY BEING SPRED THROUGHOUT THE GALAXY
He’s the type of dude to dance to the music while playing the game😂
I dunno what it is, but EVERY single time THAT sudden shift in music occurs when all players are readied up and the Camera shifts to the bridge view and all of a sudden the music tempo increases like something amazing is about to happen right before the hellpods are launched. It never gets old, like im about to experience something incredible and different in this game thanks to all this technology.
I have over 600 hours in Helldivers 1. Just started HD2 yesterday and I'm addicted for sure.
in addition to the great reaction you have with this soundtrack. I find all the information you have given about performance AND your knowledge of music is so cool and fascinating. I had a great time watching and learning from you, what a fantastic time you gave me, thanks for the deep democracy analisis. Saludos desde México. ✨🫡
Great analysis and breakdown of each piece as usual!
Best part about the use of the leitmotif in the main theme and the server cue theme is the time signature. In the server cue it’s in 4/4, as if it’s in a holding pattern, waiting to be called into service. But the main theme is in 5/4, so it constantly “falls” forward. And, appropriately, the main theme is what plays as you plummet towards the planet you’ve been sent to liberate, and it just seems to encourage you to push forward. Genius!
Always a treat when you upload!!
This Sound track is my favorite for 2023 like Baldur’s Gate 3 was in 2023. They both enhance the experience in the games. This music with the game bring in a presentation that is phenomenal and out of this world.
What games have we been playing?! Sir! Super Earth needs every Super Citizen! We don't have time for games!
Could say your coffee was from the "Freedom Blend" package
I'm doing my part! 👍
I'm doing my part!
Anytime a Cup of Liber-tea starts to play I hear the sound effects of the drop pods leaving the destroyer, and the sound of the pods burning across the atmosphere. Such a great soundtrack for an awesome game
This was my first time listening to these without also hearing explosions, gunfire, and screaming. Never realized how much the training ost sounded like the Stargate theme.
Another soundtrack I think would be worth checking out would be the Madness: Project Nexus soundtrack. Absolute banger, Cheshire has always nailed the music for the Madness series.
: guy in the interenet : Thats why we love you
This piece of music hits me in the heart every time. Makes me feel like I'm part of something epic and meaningful.
Part two please, and i'm glad you had the chance to listen to this beautiful music
Thanks for this. Really highlights the power the music has in the player experience. We hardly know we r being emotionally motivated by it during gameplay
Theeeere it is, been waiting for this
when i listen to cup of liber tea and extraction theme it still to this day brings tears to my eyes. but in game they both make you feel so powerful

It's so cool watching you listen to the extraction theme and get exactly right everything that happens in game while it plays.
Your reaction was SO PERFECT off song 1 🔥🔥🔥🔥 man I got chills hearing it again and I play the game daily lmao!!!
Willl you listen to the faction themes (automaton, terminid) in separate videos? There’s also the 4 minute extrac theme will u listen to that for fun there are some differences (mainly the middle) as it only plays during complex stratagem missions
The Super Earth Anthem makes me smile
Part 2 would be awesome! As for what songs to listen to I think the automiton and termanid fight themes would both be great!
It's amazing how much motion this motif can elicit. It's SO GOOD. It's amazing how well this game can tell you what is happening just with the music.
If you like the Helldivers 2 sound, listen to the Terran Republic faction's music from Planetside 2 - another game with a similar feel from 2012. It's a great time
LET THEM COME LET THEM BRAWL LET THEM FACE THE INSURMOUNTABLE MIGHT OF THE HELLDIVERS!!!

28:45 They also use parts from that one in different conditions. One for side mission completed (26:06),
one for main mission part completed (28:25) and the ending of that song is used, when you get back on to your ship.
The best combination in this game, in my opinion, is: Stratagem loadout selection, which plays after you go into your diver drop pot and then
A cup of liber-tea, which starts playing, once the launch sequence is started.
The first song thats always stuck in my head 24/7
I love seeing musicians react to music the same way i felt when I heard a song for the first time. That first "whoa, oh hell yeah". Priceless
I firmly believe that music can bring the world together. Thank you for reacting to this OST. It was very fun to watch and listen to! FOR SUPER EARTH!!!!!
Extractions are usually a final stand NGL
love picking up knowledge from here!
I've been waiting for this
some guy in chat joked about a satire helldivers movie, but we literally have Starship Troopers
He's drinking cofFREE!
A note to add with the tutorial/reinforcement ready song, while waiting to be reinforced you’re spectating you’re team, and normally you will get called in only a few seconds after dying so you only hear the calmer early parts of the song, but in the later stages of the game when you have depleted your reinforcement budget or the ship has left orbit you have to watch your team struggle and fight for much longer without you, and that’s why it goes so hard bc if it gets to that point in the song it’s likely just 1 or 2 players holding off a horde of enemies while trying to escape to the evac site
the composer (Wilbert Roget) is a Lucasarts veteran, which explains why this soundtrack is so good
Just now found your channel, instantly subscribed. I thoroughly enjoy your analysis and breakdown. Hoping for a reaction to the Halo Franchise OST.
The thing i've realized while playing this game is that depending on what's happening in the game. The music can shift to a different sound track. And its such a smooth switch up i almost don't realize the music changes
I love this game and the music from it is absolutely well composed
Stratagem Hero is the theme of Helldivers 1
We need a Theme for the Fallen of Malevelon Creek or a Victory March!
That Extraction theme head bob and bass face at 1:01:48 is the exact same reaction I had when I first heard it in-game.
It's not you only dissecting the music, you also feel it and enjoy it, that's great
