I've had this mic for about a year now after watching this video and I'm thoroughly happy with the purchase. It's perfect for my voice. Only issue I had was finding it in stock shortly after it came out.
I never subscribe to review channels BUT this is the most perfect, in-depth yet short and simple review I have ever seen. You covered every little thing I wanted to know. Absolutely perfect. Subscribed.
This is a fantastic channel. Bandrew is great.Visit Booth Junkie as well as he does great reviews as well. Great guy and extremely professional. I uncovered both channels in just a couple of months and very glad I did.
I picked this mic up with the Rodecaster. I like how it sounds. Much heavier than I expected, it’s like a little tank. I was thinking, “oh, it’s tiny, this will be great to travel with....”. NOPE! Will still travel with the Procaster but overall, I’m really happy with the PodMic. Especially for the price point.
I have read that you are the owner of the 2 microphones, both podmic and procaster, which of the two do you recommend for direct and yotube? thank you very much
I think for traveling, that's the ONLY situation I'd rather have a USB mic since it eliminates the need to carry an interface. Something like an ATR2100X or maybe soon the Samson Q9U could be decent travel options.
For anyone considering the ATR2100X I'll share my experience: It came with the inner wiring connected in anti-phase. So when weating headphones, my own voice was perceptually cancelled out. Extremely incompetent wuality-control failure by Audio-Technika. I've also received faulty gear from Audio-Technika before. When it works, it's fine. But I've kinda lost confidence in AT as a brand, and tend to avoid them. Sound-wise, the ATR2100X actually surprised me positively though. The highs are crisp and overall not harsh, and almost airy (a dynamic microphone can never truly get airy, only condensers and some ribbons can). The ATR2100X build quality is very plasticky. Almost like a Fisher-Price toy item. The positive / flip-side being it's quite light and portable.
@@methdxman I highly recommend if you get the Podmic only get it if you have a Rodecaster Pro. It sounds amazing on that. It does not sound good on my DBX 286S. Procaster is a better mic no doubt.

@@emmaombima299 so I've done some more research and it's not quite that simple. While you can plug in the XLR mic like that to your computer, the input gain will be very low and you'd need to adjust that on the computer which will give you loud noise in return, so I'd sugest you get yourself an audio interface or an audio mixer with the mic.. with that you can regulate the gain without any high loss in recordings.
Rap vs spoken word in relation to microphone choice isn't a matter of how fast the words are uttered. It's about spoken word being acapella, no background music - whereas rap is on a beat. On the latter, you'll benefit from a mic that is significantly more mid-forward, and crisp in the presence range, and isn't too muddy or boomy in the lows. So it cuts through in the mix. For spoken word, a microphone can have a bit more "smiley curve" frequency response, with less emphasized lower mids, a bit more bass (for fullness), etc.

While it may not be the SM7B, it’s ridiculously close for a quarter of the price. I find it has a nice sound, and the build quality is outstanding. I concur that you will need a windscreen; I use a gooseneck pop screen and it’s fine. The PodMic has been my daily driver for more than a year now. It’s hard to believe that $100 buys you a broadcast quality microphone, but I would absolutely use these in a studio. This is what I use to voice track from home. A little tuning with a preamp, or even just the settings of the Scarlett interface will give you a nice sound that’s very respectable on the radio. I work in a big market and had NT1A’s in my voice booth. And just behind the BCM-104, the best mic I ever used in an on-air studio was the Rode Broadcaster. You’ve gotta love Rode for delivering quality that nips at the heels of the Shures and Neumanns of the world at a fraction of the price.

Especially if they sell another product (Procaster) designed to pair with the unobtainable product (Podmic) which gets you to buy the first product (Procaster). Right now, I'm NOT a RODE fan. I've been waiting for you to do this mic test. Now I know it's a good buy for what I'd like to do. Thank you much. Just wish the Rodecaster wasn't so darn expensive. I think I'll go with the Rode AI-1 since you gave it a really good review also.
The construction is stellar. You honestly could beat someone to death with this thing. Im at a loss to understand why it's so heavy unless it's to act as some sort of dampener for vibrations. Its compact and good looking to boot. On the negative side it requires some oomph with gain and even then it's not particularly bright. A vocal mic it is. I have Sennheisers and even the Re320 blows this out of the water but, there again, at a cost. It depends on whether you really value your sound that much or you can live with its shortcomings. Not a "bad" mic... just not what I myself was really looking for.
i dont know if you can help me but, ive seen a few reviews that say it is too quiet and you have to put the gain up a lot is this true will i need a cloud lifter and is there a alternate option if its not very good ?
I've just got a PodMic for my Radio Ham set up and I've been more than happy with the results. A good compacted size com paired to the Procaster and my other Heil mic's.
Hi Chris- For that same $99 you can get the SM-58 from Shure and the side and rear rejection is amazing. I use it it my podcast and it sound great, even with no EQ.
It's like if the RE320 and the SM7b had a baby priced the same as an SM57. Honestly, Rode just keeps putting out good equipment, I think this would be a great option for anyone just beginning with podcasting. Looks durable, mount built in (this is a big one for me, I hate mic clips), and a decent sound. I have need of a few dynamics for spoken word; as soon as these are actually available, I think I found my solution.

I've been waiting for you to do this mic test. Now I know it's a good buy for what I'd like to do. Thank you much. Just wish the Rodecaster wasn't so darn expensive. I think I'll go with the Rode AI-1 since you gave it a really good review also.
HI , just want to thank you helping me choose my new mic . I like your vids, I love the new Rode podmic thanks ! keep up these funny reviews !
Excellent review! Thank you. Subscribed with a bell! Going to go look for the Rodecaster video.
Congrats on 102k!!!
Thanks for the review you always do great with your videos.
Is it gain hungry? It could pass for a short SM7B. The rear rejection is so good you could do a podcast in the train station
Thanks for making amazing microphone reviews
Thanks for including the E835! I have 2 of them and no need for the podmic. Is there any reason to get podmic over E835 for podcasting?
Rode "forgot" to include a sticker with this microphone sent to you?
They know, he hates them🤣😂
This mic does not come with a sticker, lol
How does PodMic compare to Rode NT USB-Mini ? Which is better for speaking in terms of sound ?
thank you, very good review.
i like that you tested more than just the podmic.
very good thank you
5:20 LMAO
Dude, your videos are awesome!
Bought this a couple days ago, very happy with it!
dude, i love your videos so much
great in depth review. this helped me out a lot! thank you!!
Not a "bad" mic... just not what I myself was really looking for.
can't wait to get mine in 6 years
5 years left
i dont know if you can help me but, ive seen a few reviews that say it is too quiet and you have to put the gain up a lot is this true will i need a cloud lifter and is there a alternate option if its not very good ?
was looking to see if this was better than the sm58, it did exactly that and ill be purchasing this mic, ty for the review
I been waiting for this!!
Thank you for the fantastic review. Comprehensive and allows us to use our own ears.
The SE v7 sounds AMAZING!
Excellent review as always!
The black background on your intro is dope
Great review and good micro 👍😏
Nice to hear your electric guitar skills again, bandrew 👍 💪
Just got my own podmic! Can't wait to use it
Great review, as always! Any shock mounts you recommend with this mic?
I've just got a PodMic for my Radio Ham set up and I've been more than happy with the results. A good compacted size com paired to the Procaster and my other Heil mic's.
Love this microphone, thing is built like a tank and has some amazing audio for the price, rode really did good on this one, great review!
Hi Chris- For that same $99 you can get the SM-58 from Shure and the side and rear rejection is amazing. I use it it my podcast and it sound great, even with no EQ.
Thanks for this Bandrew. Would love to see a comparison between this one and the new Blue mic.
very useful and detailed review, thank you!
This thing absolutely rocks on guitar cabs
nice thorough review!
