  • How would you fit a weed whacker, an ironing board and an 8 foot lumber wood into a small Honda Civic and still fit four passengers? Ok, well maybe not these items specifically, but what if you have long, large objects and other bulky cargo you want to carry in your 4-door sedan with a trunk such as Honda Civic as opposed to larger vehicles that you can lay down the seats flat such as Acura, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lincoln, Mercedes, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen minivans as well as most of the SUVs. Example of the models are Integra, ILX, TLX, TSX, RDX, Regal, ATS, CTS, Cruze, Cobalt, Spark, Challenger, 300, Dart, Focus, Fusion, Fiesta, Civic, Accord, Elantra, Accent, Sonata, Optima, Forte, Sentra, Altima, Maxima, Versa, Corolla, Camry, Yaris, Avalon and more...
Fear not, because car manufacturers actually thought about this. While most people know that you can fold down the rear seats of most sedans, wagons or crossovers, you'd be surprised that some people do not know. For example, we have a video on "How To Fold Down Rear Seat To Provide Access To The Trunk For Honda Accord" -- • How To Fold Down Rear ... , which have reached over 150K views so far.
So basically this video is similar to that video, but we wanted to make this video more entertaining and that's why we chose these objects to fit into our Honda Civic. This is an 8th Gen, which are model years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011. As such, the original title of this video was, "How To Fit A Weed Whacker, An Ironing Board, 8 Foot Lumber Into Honda Civic & Still Fit 4 Passengers."
In order to fold down the back seats, there are two levers inside the trunk, one for each of the split rear seat so that you can fold them down independently. Several modern 4-door sedans regardless of whether domestic or import would have this feature.

Most big sedans from mainstream brands do offer a fold-down, extending the utility of their big trunks and making the backseat more cargo-friendly. You can fold your rear seats so they create extra cargo space when you need room for large items. Folding the seat down increases your cargo capacity and lets you carry larger items.
However, in these days of buyers flocking to SUVs, you might assume that all sedans have a fold-down backseat and trunk pass-through to add some extra utility and bolster the body style’s practicality, given its generally lower price and higher gas mileage. And you would be right until you get to the biggest cars, the full-size sedans from mainstream and premium brands. Most new car full-size sedans from luxury makers do not offer a folding rear seat (Volvo’s new S90 is an exception).
On Civic, here's the instruction from the User's Manual:
    Folding Down the Rear Seats
The rear seat-back(s*) can be folded down to make room for large items in the trunk.
    1. Pull the release lever in the trunk to release the lock.
    2. Fold down the seat-back. Push the seat-back up firmly until it locks into place to return it to its original position. Make sure all items in the trunk or items extending through the opening into the rear seats are properly secured. Loose items can fly forward if you have to brake hard.
