You live in Florida and don't know you have to cut all tall trees around your home when a hurricane has you in it's sight?? Every home owner in the Caribbean knows this is the 1st thig you do. And I can't believe that tree missed DeSantis.

Why didn't he cut the trees??
They were told to evacuate. Yes, being willing to risk himself to protect his family is important but they could have avoided being at risk at all if they'd followed authority recommendations.

Prayers for all people and animals affected by Idalia 🙏...Desantis wouldn't even pronounce the name of Hurricane Idalia correctly because it is a Hispanic pronunciation. Insisted on calling it Eyedalia when the hurricane center's official pronunciation is «EE dal ya». The guy can't even stand for diversity in names! Horrible to have him representing Florida.

It is time to rebuild damaged utilities stronger and better. There will be another disaster in the area in time. Plan for that the next time will come. Use the opportunity to build better.
FEMA should recommend low areas rebuild elsewhere, because if low areas are rebuilt that will flood again. People with beach front property should try to elevate their buildings, build surge breakers And/or seawalls, (to a much higher level -like a full story) to protect their area from the next time. Flooding and storm surges are getting worse.
