That is one thing I do like about the Dwarves more than the Elves. That even when driven out of their ancient homes... They never forgot or forsook those sacred places. Even if it took thousands of years and the lives of every last Dwarf... One day they would return.
Well, if it is true that tolkien based the language and some characteristics from hebrews and arabs, only makes sense since jews never forgot their homeland and bade to go home again... one day
Yean thats true the dwarves had ot tough from the moment durin the deathless woke in the first age the dwarves have been through so many hardships but they are perhaps the strongest pepole to go through it as they come back stronger , the dwarves have survived wars with orcs , wars with dragons , the battle of the five armies and more and they still never give up or give in .
Most of the realms of the Noldor were in Beleriand and ended up under the sea after the end of the first age… just like most of the kingdoms of Belegost and Nogrod, whose inhabitants went mainly to Khazad Dûm. A bit hard to return to them unless Eru granted them gills…
@@bennruda11 The thing is that the Hebrews and Israelites did not belong to the land they now consider theirs. They came to it and genocided around 20 peoples in order to make it ‘theirs’ in a frightful possession is law scenario.
The Dwarves are very different to the Israelites in this respect.
@@guyprolly after they had left during a famine in the land of Canaan and then enslaved by the Egyptians and had to fight a series of people who didn’t want them there.
Wish we knew more about the southern and eastern strongholds.
I always had hoped that Tolkien would have elaborated more on the delving that Gimli founded in the Ered Nimrais, such a fascinating and mysterious cave there with an unknown hinted at within. What was it? Tolkien never let us know, but it's mysteries like that, that keep us searching and exploring today. :)
Always love to hear more about the Dwarves and their homes. I like to think that the Dwarves did not die or fade away, but, like the Elves, simply left Middle Earth for the realm of their birth. In this case not Valinor, but the deep places in the Earth where Aule created them.
Yeah its better then Rings of Power saying Harfoots aren't Hobbits and they live in Karts lol not Holes hahaha like what are we even talking about.
Maybe im wrong at this, but I read in one of tolkiens letters that the dwarves wouldnt fade, but slowly dissapear from the face of middle earth with their halls empty and devoid however they did not fade, because dwarves are to stubborn for this, maybe they were taken to the halls of Aulë the Smith to dine with their ancestors, until Dagor Dagorath when Morgoth returns from the door of night and the final battle approaches , Durin the I and his decendants will wake up in Mirrormere and reclaim their old halls at the end of time.
See Durins song espacially the last strophe:
The world was young, the mountains green,
No stain yet on the Moon was seen,
No words were laid on stream or stone
When Durin woke and walked alone.
He named the nameless hills and dells;
He drank from yet untasted wells;
He stooped and looked in Mirrormere,
And saw a crown of stars appear,
As gems upon a silver thread,
Above the shadow of his head.
The world was fair, the mountains tall,
In Elder Days before the fall
Of mighty kings in Nargothrond
And Gondolin, who now beyond
The Western Seas have passed away:
The world was fair in Durin's Day.
A king he was on carven throne
In many-pillared halls of stone
With golden roof and silver floor,
And runes of power upon the door.
The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
There shone for ever fair and bright.
There hammer on the anvil smote,
There chisel clove, and graver wrote;
There forged was blade, and bound was hilt;
The delver mined, the mason built.
There beryl, pearl, and opal pale,
And metal wrought like fishes' mail,
Buckler and corslet, axe and sword,
And shining spears were laid in hoard.
Unwearied then were Durin's folk;
Beneath the mountains music woke:
The harpers harped, the minstrels sang,
And at the gates the trumpets rang.
The world is grey, the mountains old,
The forge's fire is ashen-cold;
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls;
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep.

We can never dig too deep!

Your moral maxims, anecdotes, and parables at the end of your videos are tremendously helpful and inspiring. Keep it up!!!
The importance of Gundabad in the North as a significant stronghold is Key. It helped defend during the Angmar wars and would be fought for in the Fourth Age. In 821 of the Fourth Age, the northern most peak reveals Mithril after a great earthquake. A small group of Dwarves kept this mine hidden and secret as the cold winter makes mining a short summer activity. The new influx of Mithril in the North creates a new opportunity for the Dwarves.
Very interesting! The Dwarven lands are often amazing.
I always felt like there was a wasted opportunity for a "Last Hurrah of Magic" 4th Age story about the disappearance of the magic creatures and the last hurrah of the dwarves, hobbits, etc.
It would have made less sense for the Dwarves, since we know what happened to them - they dwelt deep within the earth where according to the mythos they remain today. We know elves, meanwhile, went to the undying lands, hobbits I’m not sure, and orcs ended up becoming the people who recline their seat on the plane.
@The Salty Constitutionalist There were also goblin weaponsmiths (according to The Hobbit) and IIRC in The Hobbit, Hobbits never went completely extinct
@@CatastrophicDisease maybe the dwarves dug too deep again and realeased the nameless creatures amd decided to seal such abominations in the mountains.
"May the heart of the mountain unite all dwarves in defense of this home."
Always inspires me how the dwarves build back up after losing so much from orcs and dragons and a balrog. If there are any places and buildings from the old ages that still survive it would b that of the most sturdy of folk. 🔨 🛠 ⚒️ 💪🏽

But I will be doing it like Bilbo: Last Year Going where I am, This Year gonna back!!! (Again)
Khazad-dûm more than Erebor, the Dwarves have their Nostagica for...So much so that Gimli sang about it!!!

Song of Durin is one of my favorite dwarven songs.
Sometimes, I like to just imagine that maybe, just maybe underneath some of the great mountain ranges of our world lie the remnants of old dwarven cities, waiting to be discovered.
I believe that would be what Tolkien wanted, his stories to foster imagination and wonder in people.
To make them wander into the world and find out if the old tales are true.
Hell yeah the dwarves are awesome great vid Yoystan
"You've done honorably by our people. You have built a new life for us in the Blue Mountains, a life of peace, and plenty. A life that is worth more than all the gold in Erebor." -- Balin
Thank you for being one of the few big channels that actually cares about Middle Earth and its lore!
Recently I finished reading Hobbit once more and whenever I read it I just love dwarves more and more and Im so excited to see some of these realms and dwarves in general in Rings of Power, I really think they are underrated!
Yoystan as always great and interesting video!

I almost missed this video before I went to bed I love this amazing race what craftsmanship 💙💙 great video as always
This is the best middle earth channel on CZcams
Great stuff as always. I noticed that Khazad-dûm seemed ready to take in the refugees after the fall of Beleriand. Is there much information as to what was going on in the part of Middle Earth east of Beleriand during the first age? I know that the free peoples migrated out of the east in the elder days. Is there more info on those who stayed east of Beleriand?
I'd love a region spotlight on Barad'dur the dark lords tower of the second and 3rd age. Did its appearance change from its reconstruction?
Ahh my favorite race, 😍 give me more dwarf content yoystan!
Lovely episode.
Thanks great subject
Great video! Should do one on the strongholds found in beleriand!
Great video, mellon.
Another wonderful video 🤠
Wonder if any dwarves ever settled to the far east of Middle earth. I know that's probably not Tolkien, more like what if. Excellent video, as always. Hope you and yours are staying healthy.
Of the 7 clans or houses of dwarves, 4 of them are said to have stayed in the east.
Longbeards, Firebeards, Broadbeams, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Blacklocks, Stonefoots, Petty-dwarves
Longbeards or Durin's folk are the main house of Dwarves that we see throughout The Hobbit and LoTR. Firebeards and Broadbeams were Dwarves that we encounter in the Silmarillion. After the fall of Western Middle-Earth, some or many Broadbeams and Firebeards intermingled with Durin's folk. Some of the Dwarves in the hobbit are actually descendents of those other 2 clans. The other 4 clans wete never really spoken of, but they are said to have been Dwarves of the eastern mountains. Both men and elves awoke in the east and migrated west, it is my opinion that the Dwarves also awoke in the east, and the 3 clans that we read about in the Silmarillion, Hobbit and LoTR migrated and settled in various places in the west of Middle-Earth while the other 4 clans/houses stayed in the east and established kingdoms there. It's never said if any Dwarves settled in southern Middle-Earth, but it is possible. Like many things Tolkien wrote about, not much is said.
It would be interesting to get a video on the various lands that lye east of Mordor beyond the standard map of Middle-Earth.
@@NANA-kf1cs and to the south as well
I'm a simple man, I see a Men Of The West Dwarven video and I click like
I read that when gimli grew old and frail Legolas, when he heard the seas call him home, took his truest friend with him to the undying lands.
I cannot fathom the amount of detail Tolkien added in his lifetime, I just wish he could have the lifetime of a Numenorian we could have got this whole world some more filling as you could say. I don't know any fantasy series or works that have this kind of worldbuilding as Arda has, it's unbelievable. Tolkien said that this Arda is actually ours and he wanted to write it in a way that it slowly fades away and more and more as time goes, the world looks more like ours and in the end it's the same world we live in. I think he kinda succeeded at that, because for myself this seems so grandeur, something so far out but still realistic. I sometimes when for example watch this channel and his talking about some battle that happened in the first age, it feels like it is history Channel telling us some real world history, it feels like all this could have happened really in our world long time ago. That just speaks to Tolkien's unique ability with the pen. Even though Harry Potter is in our modern era and it has in itself really good world building, you never think it is something that could be in our real life
How did they remake the bridge of Kazad dum
06:41 I want Peter Jackson's last Tolkiens work to be Easterling invasion to Erebor and Dale lands. Imagine seeing Easterlings with their amazing golden armor from the Two tower movie and a messenger approaching king Dain saying that Gondor is under attack with full Sauron's strength and then a panoramic cut to Minas Tirith under siege from the return of the king movie just like BFME 2 cutscenes . That would end up Peter Jackson's lotr universe with pride and chills with vibes from both lotr and Hobbit trilogies !!!!
What's intersting to contemplate, i think, is that if the old cities in Ered Luin had NOT been destroyed, and their inhabitants not left, the history of Eriador might have been much different . . . for the Dwarves would have had not only the Elves of Lindon for their neighbors, but later, the Hobbits as well, and it's intriguing to speculate at how that would have worked out. I'm sure that if i was a Hobbit in Dwarven company, like Bilbo hosting Thorin's party or at the Prancing Pony, I would have been eager to hear more about Nogrod and Belegost from my fellow guests, and to invite them to think about what might have been.
I wish there was more information on the glittering caves of Aglorand
This is the way!
A second great video as always Men of the West.
@Men of the West Btw, have you connected with Council of the Rings channel at all in the past? I think the both of you could do a great combo video on Tolkien's world and would love to see that team up, especially with his viewpoints coming from a different culture as well. If you're not familiar with his channel here is the link: czcams.com/users/CounciloftheRingsfeatured
I love this video about dwarves and today is my birthday.
And what an appropriate name! Look up the song "Army of Stone" for some appropriately epic birthday music.
For me, it says a lot about the care and love of LOTRO developers that we are able to see glimpses of these events in the game. The first time I found Thror's Coomb in Dunland, I had forgotten Longbeards actually lived there after Erebor's sack.
Were there any mixed Dwarf-humans? I could imagine a petite human woman finding a hunk dwarf and making it work 😛
It sounds like an interesting topic for a video. As well as the general question of how much did cross breeding of the races occur such as that of elves and men, men and dwarves, and dwarves and elves. Were these cross-bread offspring their own unique races and how were they treated by other races of Middle-Earth?

It's never explicitly stated when the dwarves went extinct exactly, just that they did when the "world grew old"... I'd like to think they're still around somewhere underground, wherever moria is located now in the 6th/7th age we're living in!
What about the realm Gimli carved out in the mountains between Gondor and Rohan?

I think the dwarfs missed a big opportunity; the island of tolfalas laid to the south of Gondor the island was a mountain two hills and a field. Perfect for dwarf settlement
High ho! High Ho high Ho! It’s off to work we go!

What did Tolkien say about the new use of "Moria" on the older Doors of Durin? Is there published lore or a recorded letter to clear up my layman's misunderstanding?
Dwarf video? Oh I guess I’ll just HAVE to like-comment-and/subscribe 😉
I doubt there was”another Golden Age” after Sauron was overthrown. Possibly a Silver Age, but it was the Age of Men, and even if they returned to Moria, their joy-the mithril-was played out.
Unrelated: Your thoughts on the comments/theories from your prev. video on the latest ROP trailer?
The dwarves even as a kid were my fave race I kinda wish that there was more history and info on them it b kinda cool if they would get an accurately adapted TV series 4 them I would even b OK if it was an animated series 2 and now that I think about it y not do a bunch of ani.ated stories I can't b the only 1 who thinks this right ???🤔🤔🤔😅😅😅😅😅
You have forgot to mention about:
1. The role that Gundabad played over millenia as The ceremonial place of conclave
2. colonisation of Ered Mithrim from before fled from Moria
Finally, you haven't mentioned about later faith and settlement of mansions in Blue Mountains - it's legacy was continued over 3rd Age. Despite it, entry is fulfiling dwarven mantions description bases on streight outta text 8nformation in 85% ;) There is even also more to be told when conecting the dots work is done ;) but this is not geek but nerd level then
Yeah I thought Gundabad was the OG dwarf home because Durin awoke there.
The only thing I have ever disliked about the Peter Jackson films is how the Dwarfs background was always never really revealed. I have always loved their history and craftsmanship. The Hobbit definitely showcases the real hearts of the dwarven people.
One thing I did not understand about them. How and why did the dwarves disappear in the 4th age? Like, they were normal, breeding people right? No definite answer was giving for it right?
"I do not know what strength is in my blood. But I swear to you, I will not let the White City fall. Nor our people fail."
Peter Jackson should come back and do one last movie of the last line of durian, takes back Moria!
Ya know... if dwarves would stop making such massive halls and chambers... the dragons couldn't get in... Now that I think about it, what do they do with all the gravel they'd make from hollowing out a mountain? There'd be thousands of tons of the stuff.
They sell it to Elves and Humans who use it to build roads and stuff.
Unlucky dwarves I condolence for them
The World is gnawed by nameless things even Sauron knows them not they are older than he now that I have walked there I will bring no report The Darken the light of day
I'm not going to GRRM Tolkien; asking about tax policies, but has anyone ever wondered how a subterranean civilisation ate?
From what I remember they bought all of their food from men and elves.
It makes sense considering that their mountains were literally making money hand over fist. Even the lowly ironsmiths were sought out for their handiwork.
They don't make 'em like they used to.
Why did the dwarves prefer their elder homes?
I think it was the majesty and craftsmanship of their ancestors in those ancient places that made the Dwarves love them so.
Nostalgia.
Possibly because they were the height of their civilisation and the height of their skills and therefore riches.
Chicken butt
