The Mary Celeste: gets horribly damaged in multiple shipwrecks, is found completely abandoned
"The lifeboat was never found"
No one:
Captains diaries were one of the benefits of captaining a ship. They were all written in very flowery poetic language with the intent to sell them and the knowledge that people did collect and read them.
last week: "that's too much church"
Can’t believe Ryan would name his boat “Sea Skimmer” over “The Brig-ara”
after watching this, i now desperately want to write a romance story set in the 19th century with two boat captains who fell in love, then get pulled apart and didn't see each other for years. they finally recognised each other's boats, looked at each other through their telescopes (not spy glasses unfortunately) and then crash into cliff sides
"Why not?"
“Need beer. Drink emotion.” Should be on a t-shirt.
The captain overreacted/misinterpreted something that caused him to believe he needed to abandon ship. They got on the lifeboat. They soon realized the ship was actually still fine, but the sea had moved the lifeboat away from the boat and they weren’t able to row back, sadly condemning them to death at sea. I’ve also seen a theory that they tried to get to / did get to a nearby outcrop / Island, but that they either crashed attempting to reach the rocky shore, or died there from lack of food and water. :(
Ryan: And there could be scientific explanations...
I LITERALLY JUST WROTE A PAPER ON THIS & LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A BUZZFEED UNSOLVED ON IT ARE U KIDDING ME
imagine if it was just like “hey let’s go explore that island” and they all went to the island on a lifeboat and then the captain was like “did anyone lay the anchor? no? aw man”
“need beer, drink emotion” is kinda poetic
Hey, Ryan, thought I'd share a theory that might help put your mind at ease at it seemed very plausible when I heard it. With the 9 barrels of alcohol that were emptied, I heard the theory that the fumes were noticeable on deck. Worried of a combustion, the captain ordered everyone aboard the lifeboat with the intention of returning to the ship after it was safe which would explain no struggle and no personal items taken as they did intend to come back. A line was used to secure the lifeboat to the ship, but proved unworthy as it detached and they were unable to get back to the ship. Not a very happy ending thinking about their final days, but definitely seems to check most of the boxes of this mystery. Great show! Hope to see more.
They traveled to Roanoke, met up with the colony there, then they all traveled to The Flannan Isles and got the lighthouse keepers to join them...and then they were all abducted by aliens.
Ryan:
Ryan:”well then what happened to them?”
