The Mongols were great horsemen. They would attack with horse archers first in waves. The strength of the Mongolian army were their horse archers who could accurately fire about 300m away. This simulator doesn't account for this.
The Romans would also be in a tight shield formation
First of wall Mongol horse riders will arrive 700 years later after fall of rome
Not only that Mongol Army had better and much more powerful siege weapons. Their composite bow had much longer range so the bulk of the Romans would be wiped out before they engage in a close combat lol
@@ryanyi6753 I don't see the majority of Romans getting wiped out by arrows. The Scutum was a very big and solid shield. The Romans would only have to form a basic testudo formation in order to be safe from arrows.
Don't forget the Romans were masters of engineering and siege warfare also. They had great knowledge of things like siege towers and catapults, as well as how to defeat them.
However i'd still give the edge to the mongols because they existed later and had access to things like gunpowder for early cannons
300m for a simple archer is too much distance

Yes this guy might do not have clue at all what Mongol army looks like, when thats looks like for me bunch of arabs running towards Roman soldiers, when actually nearly all of Mongol army used horses, so they should have been running with horses towards the Romans and Mongols do not look like arabs, so this guy should check first how they look like.

Nah run is that last thing they will do when facing with mongols. tactically, when you are faced with skirmish troops like the Mongolian horse archer, the first thing you will do is form a shield wall formation, in this way you do your best to resist the rain of incoming arrows, you shouldn't run because if you run then the army formation will break and you are an easy target for heavy Cavalry to charge.
Generally the Mongol "Hordes" had smaller numbers than the enemies they faced (eg Khwarezm, China).
Compared to China nothing is a horde....

@@emi7870 The Khwatezm army was upto 4,00,000. Most adults were of Turkic origin and rides themselves on their ability as warriors. Most possessed their own weapons (bows,, arrows and swords). The king and governors could call upon every able bodied man to fight.
The Mongols had 1,00,000-1,50,000 horse archers and 5000 siege engine troops.
But The Mongols concentrated all their forces, while the Khwatezm forces were guarding different cities and forts, leaving much lesser forces in the field and lesser forces at any point than the Mongol for es.
the whole Mongol horde were barely 300k total, they also would never mobilize all of them, they'd typically send 10k riders to deal with an army of 30-50k, by nightfall the 30-50k would be all annihiliated

I thought the Mongols would send the first wave on horseback to shoot arrows and retreat since the Roman’s are outside the fortress. And multiple waves of attacks then use siege engines before sending in infantry

It isn't even infantry. Since they didn't even carry shields, they are already like civilians lol
A lot of errors: 1) Lack of horsemen archers in the Mongol army. 2) Movement of the Roman army... they never move the first line when assaulted (they used the pilum lance) only the secondary and tertiary line moves to reinforce the first line.
Odd that the Roman army in possesion of a strong fort chose to meet battle outside the fort and did not position any men on the ramparts.

I still long for the day I get to play a truly sandbox style war game. Just a ton of different historical scenarios to pick from and play however you like; if you die it all resets. Something like Planetside 2 where the battles can go for months.

All the sieges only end one way lol. Chokepoints etc. In real life siege warfare was all about taking your time, engineering and using many tactics and specialists.
