  • HMMWV Oil Change : How To / What You Need To Know
Hello Everyone, In this video we will be changing the oil in our Military Humvee equipped with the 6.5L Diesel engine. I highly recommend using Shell Rotella T6 15W-30 full synthetic oil in the newer Humvees. This is the oil I have used in all of my diesel engines.
    Oil: Shell Rotella T6 15W-30
    Filter: K&N HP3002
Oil Capacity: 8QT or 7.6L... Pretty much 2 gallons
Oil Drain plug wrench size: 9/16
Oil Drain Plug torque: 20-27 ft/lbs

Good video. Running the engine before the oil change does NOT make the oil run faster. Just the opposite. 15 in the 15-w40 is the colt viscosity.
When you warm up the engine, you first start with thin oil, but as the engine warms up, it actually gets thicker.
There might be a reason to run the engine for several seconds before an oil change, but it has nothing to do with making the oil flow better.

hi friend I have a hummer h1 2004 k series. the company recommends 15w40. However, I believe that 15w40 oil is cheaper and less refined than 5w30 or 10w40. Isn't synthetic 5w30 oil better than and more protective than 15w40? I would like to have clarification on this matter. Thank you

how many miles can you run between changes..?

  • @platinumproroofingconstruc3336

Hey guys, I just changed my oil myself for the first time. I pulled the injector cords as seen on the video at 12:51. Now my motor will crank, but it won't start. Usually, I have it done but decided to do myself. Trying to keep my batteries alive through it all. Oil is changed, 6.5, 2005 Humvee. Doesn't appear that the cords could be backwards as to I was careful not to and one is shorter than the other. Any advice?

Any idea if anyone makes a remote oil filter conversion for these engines? Mileage between changes? This would have been a good time to grease the U joints while the oil was draining. Great video!

    Just discovered your channel !
Its way cool! I've been retoring cars for years, but I'm a hmmwv newbie!!!
FYI, who ever told you that crap about not filling the filter....is full of shit.
your far more likely to cause dmg from momentary oil starvation, than from " contamination ".......your crank case is chuck full of "contamination'!!!
I would not disconnect the fuel...your injector pump requires it for lubrication !
that's a good way to dmg your injector pump! Great vid, and you have excellent work habits! I will be watching more!

@@rolling1885modern diesel oils are designed to make the ridiculous emissions systems last a long time. They accomplish this by lowering the amount of ZZDP in the oil formulation. ZDDP (basically zinc) is what lubricates the engine.
Have a look at this video from Power Driven Diesel. They have their own formulation of diesel oil for "competition" diesel engines. They did this because modern diesel engine oils are crappy. It's got a lot of good info.
