  • I had a broken breather valve intake from the factory, so when I fixed it I decided to throw a catch can on too.
It is just a cheap-o eBay catch can that was ~$20, but is pretty nice other than the hose that comes with it.

Excellent video with thankfully, good editing. I appreciate your explanations of why your doing the task that you’re working on.

That is the wrong line to put an oil catch can on for a LNF. Air is flowing from the intake into the valve cover there. The stock fitting at the intake pipe is a check valve to ensure that. Air from the crank case flows from the front hose connection to the inlet of the turbocharger. Also need to ensure clearance under the catch can to pull off the bottom part when it fills with oil.

So that line is actually under vacuum? I noticed the check valve on the line that broke. It is actually still sitting in the parts chest connected to that line since they are so hard to remove. The other line is the same fitting type and is near impossible to get off (I tried when building my custom gauges, see other video). I'm trying to understand why there would be a one way vacuum inlet into the valve cover on a turbo motor. The good news is that it is easy enough to fix, just swap the lines since they are the same fitting size. And for now, while it does absolutely nothing if you are correct, it isn't hurting anything and the car runs.
Add another thing to the check list!

@@ihavemadeahugemistake that line allows air into the top of the motor. However, this line allows oil to get into the intake tract because the check valve does work at sealing when it’s not under vacuum. Ideally you want a catch can on both of the lines in question.

DUDE. You gotta share the Ebay link! All of the big Saturn Sky brands charge $200+ for a catch can

I thought I replied to this but I must not have. This is essentially the same thing I have. They can be found under varying names on eBay/Amazon

Use metal valve stem for a wheel.

Looks like one of the hoses has a serious kink in it, hopefully you replaced it by now.

Hoses were replaced when I did the custom gauges. Now they are much more robust lines.

Yea that hose is terrible for the application. Great video though. How often does it fill up?

I haven't gotten to give it enough run time to know yet. Still waiting on materials for the cage. Tracks tend to frown on no roll support and no seat belts.

So... I bought the RPM Motorsports catch can ages ago, and they place their lines on completely different ports. I can't figure out which one I should do.

Take a look below at the comment from @Desert89pathy. I had my lines swapped (which I've now fixed). Install placement didn't change, just was tapping the wrong lines as I didn't realize there was a built in check valve on the line on the side of the head closest to the cabin.

You want a catch can on both lines ideally. More oil gets into the intake side from this line he chose than the other one that leads to the turbo

That's a cheap one you have to get one from DDM works

Do you know where the pcv valve is in a 2.4 Saturn Sky?

    • @ihavemadeahugemistake
      @ihavemadeahugemistake  Před 2 lety

There isn't a PCV on these cars. Just the check valve on the braided line coming off the head.

@@ihavemadeahugemistake Thank you for your reply, I'm getting a P0507 (high idle 2200 rpm) engine code after cleaning the throttle body and the MAF sensor. Can't seem to find the solution.

@@velox731 Have a code reader? I’d check the MAF first just to see if you accidentally fouled it. But normally a high idle is an IACV screen getting clogged. That said, I have no clue if this car has one, I haven’t ripped apart my throttle body yet 😄

@@ihavemadeahugemistake actually there as pcv valve. It’s located under the intake manifold which has to be removed to access it.
