Bill Gates and Elon Musk interviewed by Baidu CEO Robin Li

  • In a recent discussion with Baidu CEO Robert Li, Bill Gates discussed FHI’s research, stating that he would “highly recommend” Superintelligence. During the interview, Bill Gates echoed Elon Musk’s concerns with future superintelligence safety, with Elon Musk noting that a good analogy would be “if you consider nuclear research, with its potential for a very dangerous weapon: releasing the energy is easy; containing that energy safely is very difficult. And so I think the right emphasis for AI research is on AI safety.”

    • @Kitora_Su
      @Kitora_Su Před 3 lety +7

      Yes, you really need to censor yourself when you go to a different country in terms of business, as an entrepreneur, a leader, etc. It might vastly affect your intentions perceived by the govt and might complicate things. We all know what the Chinese Party is in case of human rights but, you are bounded by a lot of responsibilities and media that could disrupt technological and business relations if you comment something carelessly. You can see Bill mildly talking about it but only when it was asked and Elon talking about his standpoints and barely commenting about the govt stuff. It's similar when leaders like Trump and Kim Jong Un meets. They avoid anything that can disrupt the relationship between the countries to avoid critical problems. We are free to voice our opinions but, if you are famous figure you really got to be careful on what you say publicly but, in the end, we all know what everyone feels about the issues without them commenting on it.

    I trust the point of view of Andrew Ng for a very simple reason: he has a more in-depth knowledge about AI because he actually develops it himself. He is the guy working at the frontiers of AI, he knows what is the current state of the art and he is in close contact with the researcher who invented modern deep learning. People like Bill Gates and Elon Musk might be very knowledgeable on this topic but are they as proficient as the actual researchers doing the work? Do they actually develop the algorithms themselves or they manage people who do that for them? If someone like Ng says that we are still far away from a superintelligence well I believe him. I don't see any reason why he should lie about that, he actually taught deep learning to millions of people around the world and is not like he is hiding something to us.

    At 39:37 Elon said that the output rate of speech is somewhere around 100 bits/sec or 1000 bits/sec. It is completely wrong, the average speech rate of humans is around 2.5 WPS. For example, the sentence "I love technology", contains 3 words which is = 17 bits. Therefore, the speech rate in terms of bits is just 17 bits/sec or 39 bits/sec (The average human speech rate).

    It is as Elon said about autonomous cars. Tesla is the first company to achieve full-autonomy hardware and software and they are waiting currently for regulatory approvals. The lane change update will come out soon but, the full autonomy set is ready and they are even working on next generations chips and computers for Tesla cars that would be implemented in 2022. I hope the regulatory process was more efficient but, it is clear that Tesla is way ahead of that other company in case of autonomy and Electric Cars. So, let's say it takes two years for a company to reach where Tesla is now but, by then Tesla would have already developed far advance technologies that what was currently available. A real-life example would be the next generation hardware computer that they are working on now even after achieving level 5 Autonomy. Most cars are at level 2 at best so by the time they reach level 5, Tesla would be way ahead in terms of improvement.
    The competitive atmosphere they created for the industries is amazing as they are realizing that electric and smart cars are the future and Old fossil fuel boxes are way primitive and behind. The $200 Roadster 2 by Tesla is the living proof since it's specs already beats Million $$ Hypercars; even the fastest Bugatti Chiron. Not to mention that the Family Sedans had beaten far more supercars as well. This is the new amazing generation of sustainable energy. With Solar City in massive development; the future looks bright. Neuralink might bring another Industrial Revolution, bigger than the Internet. It has that much potential. Love Elon Musk, his companies and the teams working there for the better future of humanity💕

      This has nothing to do with your US politics as it was bad enough during Trump period and I don't support politicians on the verge of their natural lifespan/too old with very little knowledge of technology.
