  • I had the opportunity to meet up with SpaceX CEO, Founder and Chief Engineer, Elon Musk as well as NASA Administrator, Jim Bridenstine to get their thoughts on this new era of human spaceflight!
    We spoke in the historic Firing Room 4 at Kennedy Space Center where SpaceX will command the rocket to launch for Demonstration Mission 2 with Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley!

      What was so excellent about his interview was it was *informed*. Like, he's not some pretty-face reporter asking stupid questions. He's someone informed asking questions and pushing for more information. It was an excellent interview, especially the last few minutes where he wanted some totally reasonable explanation on how that partnership between NASA and commercial partners would work. Good on Tim.

      SPECTRE were idiots. Or Mr Osato if it was developed by Osato Chemicals. Bird One could have easily been upgraded into a fully re-usable launch system that with it's existing upper stage could have delivered cargo or crew to orbit. They'd solved the big problem of recovering the upper stage and precision landing, so recovering the lower stage would have been far easier, given the additiuonal infrastructure of a landing pad downrange.
      Extend the length of the first stage by 50%, and add two more engines at right angles to the existing two edge mounted motors and it could have carried around 5 tons in it's nose mounted payload bay. Remove the crew section and you could probably bump that to 10 tons. Or replace the payload bay with a pressurised cabin and you could transport a dozen passengers to and from orbit. There might even be enough volume to use it as a short term space station for a couple of astronauts.

I've noticed that Elon really enjoys talking to and with people who do their homework, are knowledgeable, fair, and very receptive to what he has to say. Brilliant people don't suffer fools lightly. But Tim's exuberance, intelligence, and honesty appeals to Elon and this is why Tim lands this and other interviews. He's meeting two leaders of their respective organizations which are in symbiotic relationship, and if a mission goes to h***, they're in it together. Tim was caught off-guard by Jim's presence and still manages to engage them on their mutual interest. "The Everyday Astronaut: Bringing space down to Earth for everyday people." And that's just what you did in this interview! I felt like, "That's Tim. I practically know him. He's standing with and talking to Elon and Jim. Those guys now seem much more human and down-to-earth, too." Outstanding, Tim! Outstanding! You were there! You did it. You are us, and so we were there, too. No news reporter could do that, because they are not "our Tim...us, the everyday guy or gal." Thank you, Tim. The three of you spoke of the partnership between NASA and SpaceX, and that it is not NASA vs SpaceX. So my question is, what is the relationship between NASA, Crew Dragon and Boeing's Starliner? Is Starliner in competition with Crew Dragon for future contracts...is it one or the other, winner take all? Or is there a plan to utilize both? And if so, will one spacecraft be used more equally than the other? :) Or will it just play out, and NASA will see which works better vs costs, down the road?

    • @MrUnbekannt34
      @MrUnbekannt34 Před 4 lety +5

      One Question is already answered. They are using both Crew Dragon and Starliner for redundancy and reliability. So that they always have a System thats is ready to bring Crew to the ISS, you can read that in many Articels in the Web. So there is no crew dragon vs starliner.
      Example, Falcon 9 had a Static Fire failure in 2016 and they had to put down the whole System 5 Months. So in that 5 Months Spacex was not capable of sending something to the space with Falcon 9. For this case, Nasa has the Starliner to close that Gap.
      They planned initaly 3 Crew-Capsule to have even more Redudancy.
