      And if you want them even colder fill the cooler about 1/3 with water. The ice will make the water cold and the cold water will completely surround the cans.
      This works because the water has better thermal properties than the air surrounding the ice cubes.

      As long as they're new and sealed, they won't burst! In Florida, a hurricane prep tip is to take water bottles and fill all the empty space in the freezer with water bottles. When the power goes off, you can gradually take the frozen bottles and transfer to the fridge to prolong your refrigerated items. And KNOW what you want to get from the fridge or freezer before you open them!

    Here are a couple more cooler hacks. Refrigerate your drinks before putting them in the cooler. Use block ice instead of ice cubes it melts away slower. If you do use ice cubes do not break the bag open. Doing this allows for more airflow thus melting the ice faster. Not to mention that makes it easier to find which drink you want instead of digging through a bunch of loose ice

But, if you're confused at the age of forty on how to get block ice, I'm going to give you the recipe. A food storage container, water, and a freezer. Good luck now. I'm sure you believe in magic too.

      @mattmarzula Před 2 měsíci +19

      @@Samuelfish2kanother fine example of reading comprehension... He's saying to leave the ice in the bag so it doesn't melt faster. So I guess you're welcome? Here's some science for you. Salt makes your ice melt faster by lowering the melting temperature. If you add salt to your cooler, it makes it colder. So melted ice isn't the worst thing in a cooler. It eliminates air spaces and cools down drinks faster. Like four minutes as opposed to seven.

    If you want a cold soda, make sure they have already been chilled first or that you put them in the cooler with the ice hours before whatever event you’re going to do because most of the surface area of each can isn’t going to be touching ice, so they will take much longer to get cold. A great idea for keeping your cooler organized and separate areas for your sodas and if you wanted to put like some hotdogs or something else in the other portions of the cooler to keep it cold.

      @@america1403 It will cool things down quicker because fluids typically transfer heat much quicker than solids. The ice is colder than the water, but the water transfers its heat to the ice very rapidly and simultaneously transfers the heat out of the soda much quicker than the ice would.

    • @mattmarzula
      @mattmarzula Před 2 měsíci +4

      @@america1403Ice water is not much colder than ice. Water just eliminates the air space between ice and increases the area of cold water and ice in contact with the beverage container. This draws the heat out of the beverages into the ice water melting your ice faster without making it colder. You don't add water to the mix. Ice is already water. You add salt. Salt makes the ice melt faster into water by lowering its freezing temperature. That physically makes the actual temperature go down and actually makes the mix colder. Same concept as an old ice cream maker.

    Good trick. Another tip, I recommend not using room temperature soda in your cooler. You will waste a ton of ice by putting room temp sodas in the cooler. The ice will melt faster trying to get the sodas cold. By putting already cold sodas in, the ice just has to keep them cold and will melt slower. I was told it takes 2 pounds of ice to get one soda cold. 😮

    I like using 2-4 plastic bins from Dollar Tree that you can place inside the cooler. I fill the bins with drinks depending on the mood (sometimes it's adult beverages and water, other times it's sodas and water), then put them inside the cooler and cover with ice. You still know which bin is holding what drink and refilling them if needed is pretty easy.

    That way the sodas shift after the first few layers of sodas are gone. He stacks them end to end on top of each other. Dumping the ice around them. They stay stacked. And you can still see the flavors of the sodas. Shake some salt into the cooler and the cans get colder instantly. And it helps keep the ice longer.

  • @cruzavila8499

    Another one that some people don’t know about is that ALL cooler lids have a hole where you fill with water, there is small plug on the lid, you take it off fill it with water put it in the freezer and the ice and contents inside the cooler will stay colder longer.

    This takes more time, but open every box you plan on putting in the cooler. Do 1 coke, 1 sprite, 1 Pepsi, 1 dr pepper, & 1 mountain dew.(U can use your choice of sodas) Repeat the cans layering til you get 1 full layer then pour in a layer of ice, then repeat soda can layering & ice layering til you've filled up said cooler. This way EACH can is in contact with ice, which keeps it cooler. Your method works as well, but your cans aren't cooled fast enough since one side is directly touching the other cans.
