👀 OMG! I just found the VERY FIRST book I made!

When I started making handmade books, I had NO idea what in the heck I was doing. My very first handmade book was for a school project and it was made very poorly with rubber cement. I can tell you, that's not archival bookbinding materials at all. Luckily, I did get an A+ on that project, as it was really a homework assignment about storytelling.
Eventually, I was able to take a real bookmaking course at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) during my last year and I learned proper, archival bookmaking techniques.
Recently, I found both of these early books that I made during my college years and it was really fun to see just how far I've come in my bookmaking skills, storytelling skills, and also to see how so many things stay the same through life.
So, today, just a little reminder to start where you are! There's no need to compare yourself to my highlight reel of 30ish years of book design and storytelling.
